06.01.2022 We've visited your laboratories, met your families, gone to sea on your vessels. We've sat next to you at events all around the world and welcomed you to our city tucked away at the bottom of Australia. We've talked to you in person, by phone, video chat, email and post. Now, we want to share some of your stories of innovation, collaboration and inspiration from the past 25 years. "During my four-decade tenure working with ocean technologies, a pivotal point in my career was ...Ian Higginbottom’s visit at the NOAA Woods Hole laboratory in 1995 to introduce Echoview. At that time, my decision to invest in Echoview was based on its enhanced capacity to post-process on PCs and to collectively improve algorithms using the Echoview Virtual Echogram module. As I continue to develop strategies among institutions to advance emerging science and technologies, I often point to the Echoview model of how we can collectively make a difference. Most relevant to this, I would like to express my gratitude to the Echoview staff who have devoted countless days of travel to train and work alongside scientists world-wide. It is truly this effort that is unmatched and have made profound changes in uniting the scientific community to build the integrity, reliability, and credibility of fishery acoustic science." - William (Bill) Michaels, USA "My story is about how the Peruvian Marine Research Institute (IMARPE) became the first in Latin America to become an Echoview user. During 1997, we were performing an acoustic survey aboard RV Humboldt. With us was David MacLennan, who mentioned that Ian Higginbottom had sent him a timed Echoview dongle to play with. In that time, we were not using any software. All the analysis was done by worksheets based on a visual scrutiny of echograms printed on paper. Thanks to that early learning, the fishing industry of Peru is now also a user of Echoview. Ian came to Lima at least 3 or 4 times. I remember when he came home to dinner with F. Gerlotto, J. Simmonds and my family in 2005. Inevitably, the conversation went on a review of improvements for the software. Ian took notes on a napkin. It was very interesting providing ideas drinking Peruvian pisco sour at the same time!" - Mariano Gutierrez, Peru Do you have any photos or stories that you'd like to share in celebration of 25 years of Echoview Software? We'd love to hear from you!
