Also, Hemp uses almost no water to grow and can usually be solely rain-fed. Hemp resists bacterial growth and breathes excellently, preventing odors. Hemp has four times the strength of cotton; It won't weaken when washed.... Hemp retains color better than any other fabric. It saves Water! 19.01.2022 This project started during the drought; we werent selling/producing the normal quota of our in house labels; Empire of Bees & Somebodys Story clothing. As a conscious business we personally know and work closely with the few families that sew for us in Java. When sales slowed down for us in Australia, we were aware of the flow on effects, impacting our friends. We had the weight of their older children about to enter university. We thereby wanted to do our best to sustain ...their incomes. After much collaboration, we decided to fully fund the development of an organic chook farm. We have watched this project thrive over the last 13 months. This year when Corona hit we saw that the production for our labels would slow further; we then worked on how to diversify our support. We have proudly just funded the launch of an organic compost company, which is a co-operative venture owned by the whole village. This is not just helping to grow food regionally, it is also getting sold further afield. From little things big things grow....... See more

17.01.2022 So we have been busy designing an eco postage satchel that cuts down on packaging and can be repurposed as a: library bag, wash bag, lingerie bag, lego bag, shoe bag and the list goes on. This is our friend Abdul in Java working away at screen printing them, his wife Farida has been busy sewing address sleeve on. We love been able to work with families and find sustainable solutions that arent mass produced, there are many positive flow on effects.

13.01.2022 How do you explain to someone who lives in a two room hut with their extended family of 13, that you live in an average Australian house; where there is a room which we refer to as spare. It’s a first world concept that we can even fill these spare rooms with excess belongings that you don’t use on a day to day basis. From my world of excess to the traditional Javanese village; there was much concern about what to do with the material off cuts from the clothing they were sewing for us. The word value kept popping up.... they were asking if people in my village would value children’s clothing so that they could keep sewing........ from this our children’s clothing range was born....
