23.01.2022 Quick trip to the summit of Mt Wellington today to get photo of the last Prasophyllum amoenum (dainty leek-orchid) and also found several open flowers of Thelymitra cyanea (veined sun-orchid) open as well. We are blessed to live in Hobart with an altitude range from sea level to alpine within 20 minutes drive of the city centre.

23.01.2022 This is bad news hearing that somebody is stealing orchids, sadly whoever is doing this will probably kill the orchid. Stupid, illegal and very disappointing.

21.01.2022 An interesting variation on Caladenia carnea (pink fingers) showing what a great flowering season we having in Tasmania.

20.01.2022 Celebrated the first day of freedom to travel up to 30km from home with a day out visiting some known orchid sites

18.01.2022 As the state's tourism industry stopped mid week, I took the opportunity to indulge in some Social Distancing by checking some orchid sites around Hobart. Very successful day, finding a trifecta of Corunastylis species + some assorted other orchids.

18.01.2022 Nice day for a walk in Douglas Apsley today, not a lot of fungi except this beaut specimen.

17.01.2022 Lake Barrine is my family home, this is my Uncle Jim and cousin Steve talking about restarting the business when the current lockdowns are lifted. If you in Nth Queensland, do yourself a favour and visit Lake Barrine.

15.01.2022 Keep your cats indoors and help protect our native wildlife.

15.01.2022 Due to the current Social Distancing rules and border closures due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Eco Tours Tasmania is not currently operating any tours. We are still out exploring our beautiful state and will post up photos of the orchids and other natural wonders we are seeing. Stay safe everybody.

14.01.2022 The orchids I've found open around Hobart today and Coles Bay mid week.

13.01.2022 Some photos of the multi color Corybas unguiculatus from north west Tasmania. These tiny orchids are usually dark reddish purple color but one population grows green - yellow and a variety of pinks.

11.01.2022 First day of freedom from the lockdown so I got to go and look at some fungi. Lots to see and photograph.

09.01.2022 Some of the variety of orchids from a known site south of Hobart today. Lots of Chiloglottis triceratops (threehorned bird-orchid) open in all colours from light tan to deep purple

09.01.2022 My family home Lake Barrine where my family has been involved in tourism for 4 generations and is currently run by my cousin and his family.

07.01.2022 A fly on a Mayfly.

03.01.2022 Very interesting / worrying article that links loss of orchid habitat to forestry, mining and tourism. For anybody who grows orchids, please check their origin and that they are not wild collected.

02.01.2022 Some lucky people have wonderful orchids growing on their properties and I have been privileged to be given access to some of these properties recently to photograph them.

02.01.2022 A few surprises in Douglas Apsley NP today, certainly didn't expect to find a Dipodium roseum (rosy hyacinth-orchid) still in flower and one flowering Pterostylis grandiflora (superb greenhood) in an area I haven't seen them before.
