24.01.2022 I'm in love!!! After years of making produce bags from polyester and knowing I was doing some good by providing a reusable option but also very aware that at the end of the bag's life it would become landfill, today after many months of research finding an Australian company willing to supply little old me with 100% organic cotton mesh, I received my order of this gorgeous fabric. I just made up some bags and working with this soft beautiful cotton gave me so much joy that I will find it hard to make any polyester bags ever again. 23.01.2022 Walk any supermarket aisle and you'll see many brands promoting their products or the packaging as biodegradable - but are they? Can we trust what they say The... National Plastics Plan announced last week includes an action by Government to 'combat greenwashing'. Soon companies making false or misleading labelling and environmental claims such as misrepresentation of recyclability will be referred to the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission. As always, it is better to avoid plastics where possible and use refillable alternatives.
23.01.2022 A busy morning getting some lovely 100% cotton produce bags made. Why do I now make cotton bags not poly net bags? I could never in good conscience go back to making and selling poly net bags after learning so much more about micro plastics and their effects for pretty much forever so I made the decision 18 months ago to stop production on these environmentally detrimental products. Of course, if you have these bags, please continue using them until the end of their life,... but also be aware they may well be around somewhere in landfill at the end slowly breaking down into micro plastics that pollute our soil and oceans. Heavy huh? Anyway, we all do our best with the knowledge we have at the time, but my pledge is, if I can't source a natural material to make a product then I will not make that product. I ask that if you are purchasing something like a produce bag, please think about what I've said above and purchase a natural fabric bag, they are durable and you are helping to not choke the planet and our wildlife. 22.01.2022 In these uncertain times due to the virus, we small business owners are facing challenging times and yes, sales are down. So please, pretty please think of us and treat yourself to something nice and useful and in my case something that is reusable and good for our planet. It will make you feel better and it really means the world to us. Not one of the small business owners I know will expect you to spend hundreds of dollars in these uncertain times, but even when "it's just a card" it makes a huge difference to us. In my case it would be just a produce bag, just a wash or dishcloth or just a soap saver. 15.01.2022 Well hello everyone, it's certainly been a while. I'm about to get busy again making 100% organic cotton produce bags that I will be supplying to Unpackaged here in Mt Gambier. I can't say enough about this local bulk food store, it's awesome and yes, those who know me also know that I work there but how fantastic is it to finally have a bulk food store locally? Anyway, the lovely Tammy has asked me to supply Unpackaged with bags and how could I say no to that. You will st...art seeing my bags in store in a couple of weeks and I of course will post here when they are ready for purchase. Just putting it out there, in case anyone is starting to stress about our toilet paper shortage, I do make family cloth for those that wish to go down that path.
