24.01.2022 Seaspiracy - a must watch on Netflix now. @seaspiracy We’re passionate about preserving our precious forests for the environmental impacts, the wildlife and their beauty. We’re passionate about reducing plastic waste as so much of it ends up in oceans, being ingested by wildlife and polluting the seas. ... But this documentary has really changed our perspective. The above is still important and we remain passionate about them, but this was an eye opening learning about just how important the ocean ecosystem is to life for us on land. Did you know they phytoplankton (whale excretion) produces 50-85% of the oxygen in Earths atmosphere and draws down carbon dioxide to the ocean. The battle on single use plastics is a positive move, but when you hear 46% of plastics in the oceans are fishing nets, perhaps we should shift our attention. This documentary shows the devastating impact commercial fishing is having and the corrupt world of the multi billion dollar seafood industry. A great watch (heartbreaking at times). Highly recommend it! See more

11.01.2022 Happy Easter from the Eco Cheeks family to yours!

06.01.2022 Have you wondered about the pandas and if our bamboo products are taking away their food? Well rest assured they aren’t! There are hundreds of species of bamboo, but pandas mainly only eat 3 types. Black, water and arrow bamboo. Our products are made from a bamboo called Neosinocalamus Affins which pandas don’t eat at all and isn’t part of their habitat. You can confidently wipe knowing the pandas are protected and happy!

04.01.2022 This is just one of the reasons why plastic pains us... Video from @jonoallenphotography Unfortunately this distressed juvenile whale shake swam deep after this video ended, so wasn’t able to be freed more. Heres hoping it was enough to loosen because as this shark grows, the plastic and rope won’t stretch cutting into its helpless body, as it already has to its fin. Heartbreaking ... In this day and age it’s very hard to escape and avoid plastics, but seeing things like this is a reality check. Please be mindful of your plastic consumption when you can. We can all make better decisions and changes, it’s not about being perfect, we just start by becoming aware. To help: Refuse and reduce it when you can. Get reusables that you can take everywhere with you! Reuse when possible. Get creative! Last resort, recycle or ensure plastic waste is disposed of safely to avoid situations like this and it effecting our wildlife. On a positive note, ACT has joined other states and have passed a law to ban some single use plastics from 1 July 2021, including drink stirrers, cutlery and polystyrene food/beverage containers with a push to ban other notorious plastics in the coming year See more
