Ocean, jungle, cliffs, trees, birds, crabs, turtles, you name it! It’s all comin’ in! This all came from art journaling the world of nature that surrounds us. 23.01.2022 Our picnic table for our local National Parks, made from 100% local plastic, is at near completion. We now have one more plank to make guys!!! Of course our big product right now must be inspected by one of our top inspectors. ... During Christmas Island’s busy crab migration we see more volunteers stepping up to the plate, including Inspector Crabbie who you see mid job. Majority of our table is made from reclaimed ocean plastic. The rest...clean plastic waste brought in by our wonderful community. We hope we can inspire innovation in awesome people like you to help this planet in whatever way you can. Just be you. 22.01.2022 Hmmm? Is this crab real? Looks real right? So we thought we celebrate Christmas Island’s current crab migration Eco Crab style! It’s amazing how affective a little local art on a piece of drift wood from Greta Beach looks.... (credit to Donna Gilbertson) This cool piece is sitting on table planks made from 100% recycled plastic, mostly plastic also washed up from the ocean on Greta. https://www.ecocrab.com

21.01.2022 Hey Christmas Islanders, visitors, and island followers. We have an exciting upcoming project happening in our office at Island Care HQ. One of our very skilled volunteers is redesigning our walls with art made from recycled materials. ... One key feature is a wall mural of nature art. Recycled materials will be books that were handed to us from the school to avoid island landfill. Before we tear these books apart, we wanted to give the island community and visitors opportunity to claim books for themselves or for their loved ones. There are some great ones so it’s worth a look! We are not seeking payment for these, but what would be nice is that in return for a book you donate to your chosen cause/initiative/fundraiser. We are more than happy assist with your donation and supply a receipt. HQ open hours are : Tuesdays 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm Wednesdays 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm Saturdays 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm Tanya @ Eco Crab Industries

21.01.2022 So...turtle video no.2: Hero’s siblings. We know you’re not meant to interfere with nature or touch wildlife. But when you can see nature has already been interfered with...... like this foreign plastic waste and wooden debris, from possibly deforestation, arriving from the ocean... blocking what would have been once a clear pathway for baby turtles... what would you do? NB: we kept assistance to a minimum to ensure geomagnetic imprinting (turtle’s navigational compass). . . #ecocrabindustries #savingislands #christmasisland #savetheturtles #babyturtles #plasticocean #deforestation #turtlerescue #beachcleanup #volunteering #covidfree #saynotosingleuseplastic #reducereuserecycle #zerowaste #actnow #savetheplanet #saveourwildlife #savetheocean #indianocean #australia

Check out our cool multilingual signs to make it easy for you know where to put your plastic items! Go on...zoom in! Big thank you to my young assistant Melody for helping me set up the bins this morning! Tanya from Eco Crab xx See more

18.01.2022 Final Baby Turtle video: From Trapped to Freedom Do you love turtles? ... We believe these little guys are #borntobefree not born to be trapped. Can you hear my scream in the background? This is when I found the nest, finding more baby turtles!! 18 out of 20 we found required assistance to reach the water’s edge due to unnatural foreign #marinedebris and #oceanplastic obstacles from the #indianocean In natural circumstances, our beautiful #turtles can live up to 80 years, travel thousands of kilometres with the mamas always returning to their birthplace to nest. The ones that make it this far are 1 in a thousand naturally. So how about give our #endangered #littlefriends a hand, #rethinkplastic #bethechange and keep fighting for a #sustainablefuture . . #ecocrabindustries #savingturtles #babyturtles #freedom #savingislands #islandlife #volunteersrock #ecotourism #volunteersneeded #reduceplasticwaste #zerowaste #beachcleanup #turtlerescue #savetheplanet #savetheocean #noplanetb #australia #beautifulbeaches #saveourwildlife #naturematters

03.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! Guess what we have for 2021... A 100% #recycledplastic picnic table launch!!! ... This table is a mix of #hdpe plastic lids, bottles, tubs and fragments, basically 150kg of plastic prevented from going into landfill and/or further threatening wildlife such as our beautiful #turtles and #seabirds . Now if we did our Maths right this equates to: 30,000 plastic lids/caps 2,500 medical pill bottles Or 1,340 laundry detergent bottles. As you may know majority of this table was made from #recycled #global #marinedebris #plastic that washed ashore over time on one of our precious #beaches from international waters, but also contributed by our very recycle supportive local #community . We would like to pay huge thanks and thumbs up to all our special friends for their support, skills and generosity and also to our supportive followers from afar! Also, @davehakkens and the Precious Plastic team, thank you for sharing your knowledge and sparking #innovation all over the world in combatting global #waste . If you like what you see let us know! Please support eco friendly practices and minimise plastic purchasing where you can. . #wildlifeconservation #closedloop #preciousplastic #christmasisland #australia #reducereuserecycle #onesmallstep #nowthis #wastemanagement #picnictable #rainbow #outdoorfurniture #oceanplastic #zerowaste #climatechange #bethechange #savetheplanet #happy2021 See more

02.01.2022 Turtle Video 3: Finding The Nest The nest could not be seen. ... Only life we initially saw was Hero (leading baby turtle) crossing our path and others we found behind him. We had to trace where Hero came from to find even the ones on top of debris. There was no sign of life right where the nest was....until after we removed some debris. Today’s Video 2 (in comments) confirms this as well as the severe and strenuous obstacle course set for these little ones (plus some hermit crabs) Hero’s siblings you see were in fact at the top of their nest, they did their job, however, further debris obstructed them, confused them, one was even pinned on his/her back. Yes we assisted most in some way. All obstacles you see other than the permanent rock, are unnatural foreign debris brought by Indian ocean currents from South East Asia, much to poor waste creation and management by humans. Please consider your choices and do what you can to reduce this global waste crisis. . . #ecocrabindustries #turtlerescue #beachcleanup #choosewisely #zerowaste #bansingleuseplastic #reduceplasticwaste #reducereuserecycle #sustainableliving #sustainability #bethechange #hero #babyturtle #bethehero #oceanplastic #marinedebris #oceanlife #beachlife #islandlife #saveourwildlife #saveourplanet #saveourocean #volunteersrock #volunteersneeded #ecotourism #australia #savingislands
