24.01.2022 Very excited to receive a delivery of the Opinel peelers for our new store which have been just added this morning! No doubt my kids were just as excited as we were and spent the next two hours whittling. It was bliss and I realised just how mindful whittling can be for kids. They were totally engrossed (the new peelers got the thunmbs up!) and calmfully connected to removing the bark off the stick. Does you child whittle? Or perhaps you do? We all love whittling in our hou...sehold and will often sit around a fire and whittle together. Well be posting some whittling videos by Adam for school holidays next week so stay tuned and order your whittling supplies from our online store.. https://www.ecoexplorers.com.au/product/opinel-peeler/

12.01.2022 Mindful Art. Perfect for a slow Sunday! Mandala in Sanskrit means circle. A continuous process. They have been used for meditation and mindfulness for centuries. There are many types of mandalas across many different cultures all over the world each with there own sacred meanings.... You can see mandala patterns throughout nature, in shells, flower petals, the rings of a tree, Pinecones and many more. Creating a nature Mandala is a perfect way to spend a few hours, combine it with a walk to collect all the nature treasures. Or see what your garden has to offer. Start it the centre with a rock or flower etc and work you way out in a circular shape. Enjoy the organic process. The creation of the mandala is the real enjoyment of this ephemeral art project. Children learn that not everything needs to be taken home. Of course take a picture!

11.01.2022 Do MALE seahorses really give birth? Yes its true! Seahorses and their close relatives the pipefish and the seadragons are very unusual, because it is the males that get pregnant and give birth to the babies. Instead of growing the baby seahorses inside their belly in a uterus, like human mums do, the seahorse dads will carry the babies in a pouch, a bit like a kangaroos pouch.... After the eggs are safe and fertilised the job of the seahorse mum is done! She swims off, and leaves the father to take care of the growing babies. Inside the pouch, the babies grow eyes, tiny snouts, and little tails. It takes about 20 days for the babies to develop, safely tucked away from other animals that might want to eat them. 02.01.2022 What is a sit spot? With everything thats happening right now In the world, its more important than ever to stay connected with nature and stay grounded. A Sit Spot could be the answer and the beginning of a deeper connection with yourself and nature.... A Sit Spot is a place where you visit regularly; a place in nature not too far from your house, your backyard is a perfect place to start. Its a place where you come to rest to be still, to just observe your surroundings and be fully present. Your Sit Spot should be technology free, away from the hustle and bustle of daily activities. The more regularly you visit this spot the more intimate your relationship becomes with nature. You become aware of the plants that grow around you, what birds visit during different times of year, what insects are around. You start to notice the position of the sun and how its moves across the sky, the direction from where the cool wind blows and the subtle changes in seasons . A Sit Spot is a place that you can truly deep in your connection with nature and find a sense of belonging. Do you have a special Sit Spot? Maybe you recall one as a child? Take a moment, breathe, sit. ~~ www.ecoexplorers.com.au
