Dear Artists, Community Bank Mukinbudin and the Mukinbudin Community Resource Centre are excited to announce that we are holding the Mukinbudin Art Show this October.... We know that this isn’t too far away, and we apologise for the last minute notice about our event. As we all know, 2020 is proving to be a challenging year, and this has impacted our planning process for our art exhibition. Nevertheless, we are pleased to advise that we are currently able to go ahead with the event. There are two non-acquisitive art prizes for the Mukinbudin Art Show, as follows: Community Bank Mukinbudin Art Award The theme is ‘Art for the Soul: The ability of art to change people’s perspectives, moods, relationships and overall health’ 1st Prize of $1,000 and Highly Commended Prize of $500 The Shire of Mukinbudin Local Artist Open Art Award 1st Prize of $500 The exhibition will open on the evening of Thursday 1 October, running through to Friday 9 October. We are very aware that artists have had limited opportunities to exhibit their art this year, and given the number of tourists travelling through Mukinbudin at present, we expect that the show will provide you with an excellent opportunity to showcase your work. A drop off and collection point has been arranged with The Artist’s Chronicle, enabling artists to display their work without having the high costs of freighting their work to Mukinbudin (central wheatbelt). 21.01.2022 World Whale and Dolphin Day was established in 1986 by the International Whaling Commission. This day is celebrated on July 23 as it marks the same date in 1982... when the members of the Commission voted for a complete ban on commercial whaling. Even though the name of the celebration includes whales and dolphins, its main aim remains to attract the attention of the public, authorities and all humanity to the issues of all sea mammals’ protection. According to the Zoological Society of London’s and World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Living Blue Planet Report that summarises scientific findings on global animal populations, based on over 5000 populations studied, the number of sea mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and other animals living in the World Ocean has been estimated to have dropped by 49% over a 40 year period between 1970 and 2012. To celebrate International Whale and Dolphin Day we are running a t-shirt design competition. 09.01.2022 Today is National Threatened Species Day. A day commemorating the death of the last known thylacine (or Tasmanian tiger, Thylacinus cynocephalus) in 1936. Sadly 1 million species are threatened with extinction, more than ever before in human history. This weekend we took up the #1milliontomisschallenge with community artists!... Kids got arty with 'Conservation Craft - Potoroo Pots, Cocky Cups and Conservation Cartoons @ Muchea Tree Farm. Kids learnt about black cockatoos and Gilbert's Potoroos, coloured them and popped in a native plant from Muchea Tree Farm to take home and plant for food and shelter for native wildlife.
