24.01.2022 Sharing the love of litter collection. Our hardworking Volunteer River Patrol Captain John Clemones and his wife Linda took a well-earned break to spend some time and money in regional Queensland. On land as they do on-water John and Linda removed litter from the environment - this haul was from Miara, between Bundaberg and 1770; pic was taken after they had removed the broken glass with gloves...doesn't everyone travel with gloves:) . Thank you John & Linda. #keepqueens...landbeautiful #communitycleanup #litterprevention #habitatprotectors #catchmentcare #catchmentcarerstrail See more

23.01.2022 Celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. There is so much to learn about Indigenous achievements in our very own Catchment. Always Was, Always Will Be.

21.01.2022 It’s Double Frog Friday! Today is part of National Frog Week Australia, which also overlaps with FrogID Week! Learning frog calls is fun and easy, and encourages us to get out of our comfort zone to explore outdoors with a torch at night.... Frogs are an important part of our environment, but they are under threat. You can help provide scientists with the data they need to understand how best to protect them. Download the Frog ID App and start recording frog sounds that go straight to the team at the Australian Museum, or if you want to get involved locally send us a message to volunteer in our Community Frog Monitoring program January March 2021: https://ecollaboration.org.au/contact/ #citizenscience #FrogIDweek #NationalFrogWeek #nightsoutdoors #ChargeYourHeadTorchBatteries

19.01.2022 MOOLOOLABA: Huge thanks to Blueys photography for snapping these shots of our latest Algae Blooms! Although these pics were taken at Mooloolaba it is up and dow...n the coast at the moment and, fortunately, it is very harmless! Our subtropical climate on the Sunshine Coast provides warm and sunny conditions which can assist these algae called Trichodesmium to bloom in our waters. FUN FACT: These blue-green algae are commonly known as sea sawdust, whale sperm, whale food and sea scum During extended calm periods gas vacuoles cause the algae to rise to the water surface. Once at the surface it forms clumps which on close inspection appear to consist of little brown bundles of threads. The blooms can occur throughout the year but are most common between August and January when they can form very large slicks, as seen here. Are they toxic? These blooms are harmless to people but if they deplete the oxygen content of the water, they can cause death to aquatic animals. 18.01.2022 Know where you are in the Bioregion. Enter your property address at: https://apps.des.qld.gov.au/report-request/environment/ The Southeast Queensland Bioregion has up to 84 recognised Regional Ecosystems. Diversity is strength, and just a little bit of knowledge allows you to enjoy diversity at a deeper level.... #regionalecosystems #strengthindiversity

15.01.2022 Just a reminder for our region to be especially fire-safe this week; and also tie down small pets - winds predicted for 35km/h today and possible 40 km/h tomorrow. And in Melbourne the BOM's State of the Climate Report has been released. The capacity of fires to generate their own lightning strikes from the smoke plumes is discussed in their post.

14.01.2022 Looking after the .03%. That is how little of the world's water is found in waterways, rivers and wetlands! This little boat is fitted with a scoop to have maximum impact in tight spaces. #catchmentcare #onwaterforwater #waterways

03.01.2022 Tune in each night this week to learn how to recycle right. Esp. if you live in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area! So much trash that doesn't need to go to landfill. #NationalRecyclingWeek

01.01.2022 A key outcome in the Sourcewater Protection Partnership is erosion and sediment control. Sometimes this involves calling in the machines. Here is one of our sites in the South Maroochy, prior to erosion control works, and after. Here’s to cleaner water, and some more trees. #SEQWater #Arborcare
