24.01.2022 What to do when youve been asked to a cocktail party, you havent got a thing to wear in your closet and youve sworn off buying any new clothes for a year? Hire a dress from these guys! Ill be paying them a visit this week! #nonewclothes365 #econesting

24.01.2022 Check out these goodies I picked up this weekend! - Bamboo cups (dishwasher safe and an excellent sustainable alternative to plastic for kids and for outside). - Reusable dish brush (wood rather than plastic - unscrew just the bristles to replace rather than the entire brush)... - Eco cloth for the kitchen (reusable alternative to sponges that can be popped in the washing machine up to 500 times) plus an eco eraser for the shower.

22.01.2022 Time to rejuvenate the toothbrushes. A nice soak in water and On Guard. Germs be gone!

22.01.2022 **Insect Repellent** Do you know whats in your insect repellent? Various high-toxicity chemicals - nothing good! Studies are showing that exposure to insect repellents and other pesticides indicate higher risk of cancer - typically of the blood, brain, lymph system, soft tissues, stomach, prostate and breast. Exposure has also been shown to weaken our immune system. Lucky there are several essential oils that have proven to be effective at repelling certain bugs while being... harmless to humans. Heres what Ive used in my homemade bug spray! *Ingredients and method* 1/4 cup witch hazel (or vodka) 20 drops TerraArmour 5 drops Cedarwood 5 drops Lemon 5 drops Lavender 3 drops Peppermint Water Combine all in a (preferably) glass spray bottle (100ml). Top off with water. Be sure to shake before each use.

22.01.2022 This is great. Ive got my kids to watch this. Save money and the environment - take back the tap! Carry your own reusable drink bottle.

21.01.2022 Whos been composting their food waste? We have drastically reduced our waste going to landfill - we are down to one bag per week (with the rest recycled or rotting). It is super easy and very satisfying. For those that are local, the Sutherland Shire Council run free composting classes and at the end you get to take home a free compost bin. Not a bad deal!

20.01.2022 Some great tips for the holiday season.

19.01.2022 Some great ideas here for greening up your bathroom!

18.01.2022 So much fun today at Jingle Smells! We made some beautiful coconut sugar body scrub, some restful pillow spray and our own pure-fume. The kids really got into it (as did us adults)! #lowtoxliving #econesting

17.01.2022 I havent chewed chewing gum for years - not since I found out exactly what I was chewing - plastic! This is brilliant!

17.01.2022 Thoughtful, useful, beautiful presents for Xmas? Check these babies out! I can also customise gifts for your loved ones to suit your budget. Just give me a shout!

17.01.2022 We have given up straws - even the kids. Pointless plastic and one of the biggest culprits of plastic pollution.

17.01.2022 What a brilliant idea!!

15.01.2022 Time to whip up some more dishwasher tablets! Took less than 10 mins. **Dishwasher Tablets** Natural and free of chemicals - particularly phosphate which is a major cause of algal blooms in our rivers. ... Ingredients 1 cup bicarbonate soda (baking soda) 1 cup washing soda 1 cup salt cup citric acid 1 cup water 8 drops essential oils - doTerra Lemon (optional)* 1/4 cup white vinegar per cycle * The citric acid already gives the pods a lovely lemon smell - I added the essential oils to give an extra kick! Method 1. In a large bowl, mix the bicarbonate soda, washing soda, salt, and citric acid. 2. Add the water to the dry ingredients and wait 1-2 mins until the bubbles reduce before mixing until thoroughly combined. 3. Scoop 1 tablespoon of the detergent mixture into each mold of an ice cube tray. Flatten the detergent into the molds with your fingers. You'll want to work quick as the mixture starts to dry quite quickly. 4. Let the trays sit out to dry overnight. 5. To unmold, twist the ice cube trays to help release the tablets, turn the tray over, and tap against the counter until the tablets have released. 6. Store in an airtight container (I reused a glass jar). 7. Pour 1/4 cup of white vinegar into a glass and place in the top rack of the dishwasher. This replaces rinse aid. Vinegar helps eliminate detergent streaks from forming on your dishes during the rinse cycle. Apparently the newer machines have rubber seals in the rinse aid compartments that don't fair well with vinegar (hence placing the cup in the top rack instead). Made 34 dishwashing tablets!

15.01.2022 Did you know that the majority of chewing gum is made of plastic? A lot are made from polyvinyl acetate (a type of plastic) which is manufactured using vinyl acetate, a chemical shown to cause tumors in lab rats. If the label lists gum base as an ingredient, it may contain petroleum, lanolin, glycerin, polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, petroleum wax, stearic acid, or latex. Gross. And what happens to all that discarded gum? Just more plastic weve added to our environment...! Instead of chewing on that rubbish to freshen your breath, check out these peppermint beads. I carry them in my purse! They are made from certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils (doTERRA). Not plastic, and not sugar like most other breath fresheners out there! If youd like to get your hand on some, let me know! Heres an article you might find interesting - https://myplasticfreelife.com/2010//chewing-on-plastic-yum/

15.01.2022 For those who order their groceries online!

15.01.2022 Yuck! Something had tipped over in our fridge and caused a massive mess and STINK! Out come these two beauties - both excellent for cleaning and eliminating odour! No nasty cleaning chemicals used (or needed)!

12.01.2022 What a brilliant idea!

12.01.2022 What are your New Years resolutions? Ditching single-use plastic (bags, straws, bottles and coffee cups to start) needs to be at the top of your list. A totally achievable goal.

11.01.2022 Will, picking up rubbish with his new robo grabber at Dunningham Park, Cronulla. Love it.

10.01.2022 Score! Look at this beauty! Thanks Dress To The Nines! Rather than buying for $375, I rented for $75. I also scored an extra 10% off (see details on website). Total - $67.50. #nonewclothes365butstilldressedtothenines

09.01.2022 Quit the big four and do your bit! Say hell no to plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic straws and coffee cups. http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-42264788

06.01.2022 Simple switches that make a big difference!

06.01.2022 Ditch the glitter!!

06.01.2022 Interesting. Ive always used the water on my hands to spritz my hair (curly hair loves a little spritz). My kids now spritz their hair too!

06.01.2022 Crazy huh? What damage are those chemicals doing to me, to my family (my kids!)? This statistic scared me into making a massive change this year. It prompted me to read and investigate (I am a scientist after all). And it prompted me to take action. I started eliminating chemicals from my bathroom, my kitchen and my laundry. I starting switching out chemical products for natural products. I started using essential oils for medicinal and emotional support and to make beautiful natural household products (laundry detergent, dishwashing tablets, household cleaners, beauty products, and on and on). And you know what? My family and I have never felt better. My only regret is not making the switch sooner! If youd like help to live a truly low-tox life, give me a shout!

05.01.2022 A few too many margaritas last night with friends! Feeling a little dusty this morning! Heres my experimental hangover remedy - DigestZen, Zendocrine, Frank, and Lemon (2 drops each in a veggie capsule). After 20 mins Im not feeling too shabby!! Headache gone and my stomach is starting to settle.

05.01.2022 **Laundry Detergent - REVAMP** I decided to revamp this recipe - adding 1/2 cup vinegar to keep my whites white! So quick and easy, and much cheaper than store bought detergents. Plus no nasty chemicals or perfumes! ... You will need: - 7L warm water. - 1 cup castile soap. - 1 cup bicarb soda. - 1/3 cup sea salt. - 1/2 cup white vinegar. I used unscented castile soap, and added 30 drops of essential oils. If you're not using essential oils, choose essential oil scented castile soap. Dr Bronner's have so many scents to choose from. Use 1/2 cup per load of washing. This makes 8L. You can store in glass or plastic soda bottles (glass preferable since we are trying to cut down on our plastic use, right!). Enjoy!

03.01.2022 I haven’t chewed chewing gum for years - not since I found out exactly what I was chewing - plastic! This is brilliant!

02.01.2022 There are tiny pieces of plastic in the seafood you're eating. -- Zooey Deschanel , h/t The Farm Project.

01.01.2022 Aluminium is actually the most valuable material in your recycling bin! Cut back on waste this Easter by leaving the over-packaged chocolate on the shelves and choosing eggs and bunnies that are larger and wrapped in foil only.
