25.01.2022 Legendary customers, we are drawing close to the end of Ecopact’s trading for 2020. This means we are low/out on a few perishable items (fruit and veg (low), milk (out), Greek yoghurt (out) and cream (out). We will close at 6pm tonight and reopen at 10am on Monday 4 January. We look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces in 2021.... Let’s hope for a slightly more free and less dramatic year ahead!
25.01.2022 Legends of the West (and beyond). Unless you have been living in a cave for the last week (and if this was the case I would be very jealous), you will be aware that, effective tomorrow, face coverings are mandatory in impacted areas of Victoria. We acknowledge these are not the most convenient things to wear. Maybe even uncomfortable at times (less uncomfortable than a ventilator) but we all have to do this. This is our part to play in slowing things down. Doing this will he...lp slow the spread, which means businesses can re-open, we can see friends again, we can find some semblance of normalcy. So let’s all stick together and do what we gotta do to make it to the other side. To comply with these requirements, starting tomorrow, we will be declining entry into Ecopact for people not wearing a face covering (who don’t have a communicated/obvious exemption). If you have forgotten your face mask please don’t be offended if we have a quick chat with you and ask you to return at a later date. If you are in store and notice someone we have missed, please feel free to mention to staff and we will communicate with said customer. This is a change and we will always try to do what’s right. Please stay safe and be kind, this is a short term inconvenience to avoid long term pain. Together we are stronger.
23.01.2022 This weeks strawberries are a thing of dreams. Kevin is referring to these as Steriodberries, and they are a fruit to behold (tomato for scale). Our strawberries come from Western Australia and are all types of delicious, and priced at $15kg these are a happy addition to your fruit and vegetable intake. We hope everyone is keeping healthy and sane in the crazy world that is 2020. It’s definitely not been the year we expected but if you keep your eyes open there are many momen...ts of beauty. #giantstrawberry #fiveplusaday #healthynoms #plasticfree
23.01.2022 Welcome to another joyous Friday .... Whilst you are all no doubt hanging on every US election vote, please find the time to peruse the very informative text that lays below. To kick off the celebrations this fine day it's with utmost pleasure I can announce the welcome return of the oil of the sweet coconut... could you be the first to make a purchase - think fast! Also making its way down the aisle is the much anticipated appearance once more of cracked freekah! Be sure to... include it on your weekend list, perhaps with and audacious feta and chick pea salad I may add. On a somber note, those seeking the raw almonds this weekend will surely feel sorrow, as we are currently sold out until next week but wait little Johnny, don't be too sad as you can always swing by to grab some whole roasted almonds In a further twist , we must move a couple short dated dairy items this weekend - namely pesky cream and stubborn natural yoghurt - half price , for your pleasure. Consider this as you move around your comings and goings this glorious weekend : A lie travels around the world while truth is putting on her boots. Go USA!
22.01.2022 Out of stock alert - milk Some silly goose* thought we would be significantly impacted on the quantity of milk we sell by the level four lock down. Said silly goose did not account for all the coffees being drunk while we are stuck at home. More milk arriving Monday afternoon. ... Apologies folks! *Silly goose is me
21.01.2022 And now for something completely different! New Ethique concentrate bars are now in stock. These bars are designed to be mixed with water to form a liquid/lotion that is very similar to products we know and love, but without the environmental cost of transporting water around the world/country (because you know, we live in a very lucky age where a lot of us can obtain water from a tap so there is minimal need to import water). Ranging in price form $13 to $14 these may be wha...t you are looking for if you aren’t a fan of solid shampoo and having found a bulk shampoo to suit your needs. Also you’ll be supporting Ethique which is a darn cool company that produces products that are plastic-free, vegan, cruelty-free, sustainable, palm-oil-free AND they donate 20% of their profit to charity total business crush right there. At the moment we have a stock of shampoos, conditioners, body lotion and body wash but we are always happy to add to our collection :-) My father always said that you should be worried if someone gives you soap or deodorant for Christmas but I think that excludes products this cool #plasticfree #bcorp #triplebottomline #bulkfoodstore #footscray
21.01.2022 And now for something completely different! In its bid to transition to 100% renewable energy carlton breweries has started an exchange programme to swap solar energy for beer! What would you like to swap your solar energy for? Chocolate? Wine? Massages? (I mean obviously you’d all swap for groceries with us but the possibilities are endless and we like a laugh so give us your best ideas). ... I may hate beer but I love their creative thinking and mission to go green! www.vbsolarexchange.com.au
21.01.2022 Waste busting legends! You may see some of our cleaning products change over the next week or so. Good clean is our new supplier who ticks all our boxes made in Melbourne... palm oil free biodegradable vegan Keep us in the loop with any questions or concerns you have with the products (we know change is scary when you have a good system going on) because if you have a question we will try our hardest to find the answer. We will aim to continue supplying some products from Euca (those that don’t come in plastic), so if you do have a particular love for a product and nothing else will do there will be scope for us to get your item in especially for you or for you to order directly from Euca. As a side note, if you have a use for any of the old 20L or 10L tubs (if you chop the top half off these make great bokashi containers, nesting boxes for chickens/quails etc) please let us know! Would love to find homes for the empty containers that aren’t landfill (but we don’t wanna become hoarders!)
21.01.2022 Technology that’s useful but often not utilised. Most of us in Victoria are in for a bit of an uneventful month (incredible amounts of love and respect for the people working through this and providing support around slowing the beast that is coronavirus). A google maps function that I think may be of interest to people managing their risks, is the Popular Times function on google maps.... Acknowledging it’s a bit creepy knowing that google knows where you’ve been and when you go there, this is a great tool for finding the best times to go places with the least crowding possible. Simply search the place you are thinking about going on google maps then scroll down on their business profile to get a good indication of how busy they will be. Depending on the side of the business you will either get estimated data (small businesses) or confirmed data (large businesses). Keep safe you awesome people, this isn’t how we thought we would be celebrating Plastic Free July, but 2020 is it’s own special kind of beast and we have just gotta keep trying to do our best.
17.01.2022 Ahoy me hearties! Avast Ye for I have a tale to tell while thee swab the decks. Weekend ahoy! And we are ready for a right old hoedown here at the store. Aaaargh that old salt Benito has swam aboard once more , aided with his bees and fully stocked the starboard with mixed blossom honey , but blimey we be out of yellow box honey this sundown. Before you whip out your cat-o- one tails though, we have finally replenished the crow's nest with our new Castille soap, courtesy of... Good Clean .... aaaargh! Bring all your pieces of eight this weekend and plunder our stone fruits, now in stock apricots and peaches. Feel free though landlubbers to hang the jib if your are on the lookout for Tamari, as it made its way to Davey jones' locker earlier today and is on longer on deck! Remember to dig out your sunblock from your coffer on Sunday, it's going to be a warm one buckos. Shiver me timbers!
17.01.2022 Well good day : the exciting news is we are fully stocked once more with laundry and dishwashing powder, courtesy of good clean. We look forward to seeing your beaming faces soon.
16.01.2022 Round 2 of coronavirus As a proudly Westy business (west is best yo yo) we are very conscious about the increase in Covid cases over the past week. These increases in case numbers include large numbers of community transmission. They are not the same as round 1 where most cases were the result of travellers returning home. We want everyone (and especially our legendary customers) to be taking extra precautions to ensure they keep themselves safe.... When shopping at Ecopact please remember to wash your hands at the beginning and end of your shop. In your personal time please consider washing your hands any time you return from the outside world. Try not to touch your face. Limit your social life. We have the opportunity to kick butt and the actions we are taking now will make all the difference. As a business we will also be giving staff the option of wearing face masks. These will be optional, non medical grade, and serve the purpose of limiting droplets being passed onto customers when talking. We want to do what we can to increase our chances of winning this round. If you see a staff member wearing one of these please understand this is preventative and based on the the low risk of spreading this while being asymptomatic. Our policy around any illnesses requiring medical clearance for return remains applicable so sick people will not be working. Keep safe and be kind to each other, together we can kick Covid’s butt.
16.01.2022 It’s that magical time in the year - when everyone in Melbourne vacates to beaches and family and tumbleweeds roam the street. Ecopact will be closed from 25 December to 3 January to make the most of this quiet time. We hope that everyone gets a break from the insanity that 2020 has been.
16.01.2022 Stock update: we are out of milk (more arriving approx 430pm tomorrow).

15.01.2022 As a lot of people will be aware (supported by the fact that our phone has been ringing constantly for the last 30 minutes), metro Melbourne is about to experience additional restrictions as the result of escalating cases of Covid. The main changes impacting our customers and their ability to shop with us appear to be: * From 6:00pm tonight, you can go shopping, one person per household and be within 5km of your home. * The only reason to be out between 8:00pm and 5:00am on a...ny given day is if you are at work or if you are giving care or getting care. We will continue to remain open for customers within these parameters. We acknowledge this is frustrating for people who live further away than 5km. I’m not sure if there is a huge amount we can do to support you but we will keep our minds open to options to support further away customers. We also acknowledge there are further changes that will impact people’s happiness and livelihood (while not impacting our business). I know this may require some people passionate about reducing waste to bend their ethics for a little while. Please be kind to yourself if you fall into this category. You can and will still make huge differences to the world, it may just be in different ways than you were expecting. As always, be kind as often as you can, and try take time for yourself when you need to.
14.01.2022 It's been a positive (almost) month in Victoria for Coronavirus and I want to take this opportunity to express the gratitude of all the Ecopact staff to our customers over this period of time and offer a token of our appreciation for this. In acknowledgement of your awesomeness, we are offering 5% off all purchases from now until the end of November 2020. Just mention to staff "Doughnuts Discount" at the end of your transaction and they will deduct it from your bill. Throug...hout Covid you guys have been absolute legends. There have been faces we have missed throughout this time because bulk shopping doesn't sit within your risk tolerance and we appreciate you guys for this - it would have been horrible if we had been the source of you getting ill. There have been faces that disappeared for short periods while you awaited test results and hunkered down (often bored) in your bubbles, each time I heard of this happening it made me incredibly thankful at how considerate you were. There have been faces that kept us sane and amused as bedlam took over all the shops and even our tiny little shack of a store got ransacked for flour and toilet paper. You provided a voice of reason when this insanity took hold. Our ability to continue to operate over this period has been in large part because of the steps that you legends took. At times when other nearby shops had to close down for a full deep clean, we were able to continue to operate. Where other shops ran out of Toilet Paper ours lasted a lot longer because you were all incredibly considerate to each other. So thank you! and keep on being awesome :-)

Tradewinds has a lot of wonderful achievements under their belt including helping to launch the Fair Trade Association in Australia and New... Zealand and having provided more than $1 million to support projects in producer countries. 12.01.2022 Pro tip/friendly reminder for users of deodorant paste - these are impacted by hot weather and can change from solid to liquid in the sun, now that summer is upon us it’s worth making sure you are keeping it out of the heat and/or keeping it in a well sealed container. Don’t do what Astaria does and cycle in the hot sun before opening the container upside down. On the plus side, I smell delightful, so not a complete loss.
11.01.2022 A message to the customer who was in store around 530 this afternoon and bought approx 4L canola oil. We are super sorry but we realised we overcharged you for your purchase! If this is you please note we have refunded the difference in cost to your credit card (please DM us for details & a receipt). To everyone else, we hope you are keeping safe and happy in this crazy world!

09.01.2022 Welcome to another day of lock down (now with added sunshine). Isn’t it just Murphy’s law that we get rain most of the weekend and then sunshine when the weekend ends! But spring is coming and the trees are blossoming so we hope that the avid gardeners are prepared for spring time planting. Ecopacts seed library is currently somewhat obstructed. Seeds are still available and free to take but you may need help from staff to gain access to these - if so let us know. This shoul...d be resolved early next week. We would love to hear about and be inspired by any projects you have coming up in the comments below (and feel free to share any gardening pictures). Goodness knows we need a bit of beauty and fun in these crazy times! Stay safe and stay awesome The team at Ecopact

Olive oil - out Dried peaches - out at supplier Corn flakes (not impacted by this but still out). We may need to add to this list as the day progresses and people substitute their flours but we will keep you up to date. Not a great way to start plastic free July but we will rebuild (our stock levels). #badmanagement

06.01.2022 New in stock The Australian Natural Soap Company Dishwashing and Laundry bar. Priced at $13.50 this is an excellent addition to a household or travel kit. I’m a world where we could travel this would be particularly useful due to its compact size but travel is not a 2020 activity and I know some people who would be interested in this as part of their day to day cleaning even while remaining at home. ... As always with this company, products are palm oil free, cruelty free, vegan, grey water safe and Australian made. We do also have soap flakes by the same company in 400gram ($13.50) and 1kg ($27.00), these look to be great product and are scent free for those who have sensitive skin (or want to choose their own smell). #proudlyaustralianmade #buylocal #theresarangainmybedanditsnotme #palmoilfree #plasticfree

We hope everyone enjoys their break and we’ll see some of your happy faces in store!
04.01.2022 Not the Plastic Free July we had in mind. Awesome Melburnians, we have made it to July and life has gone a bit topsy turvy, another twist in the year that is 2020 (will this be the year we meet the aliens? Lots of change afoot!). We are trying to wrap our heads around how we can protect you (and the environment) in the strange world that we find ourselves in, and hope to get a bit more fun missions in before the end of the month, but in the interim, acknowledging our recomme...ndations to mask up, please find instructions for your own diy face mask. Please understand that this type of mask offers you limited protection when going out (unless you have the high grade masks you aren’t going to get full protection and healthcare workers deserve access to these masks). What this type of mask will do, is limit the amount of bodily fluids escaping your nose/mouth into the wide blue yonder which, if you have no symptoms is a great way to limit risks to people around you when out in the world (please stay home if you are sick). They are also relatively fun and easy to make. For our ones we used a ripped flannelette sheet and fabric scraps from previous projects. So wash your hands, put on your masks and smile at your fellow shoppers from a distance. Together we will make it through. #facemask #facemaskhomemade #covid19 #plasticfree #plasticfreejuly #footscraylife #westfootscray #westisbest #crafts
03.01.2022 Good afternoon! Due to a large demand the past 24 hours we are currently out of stock of all varieties of milk. Apologies in advance, however fear not! .... ETA of our next delivery will be mid day tomorrow (Wed) Hope you're enjoying the fine weather.
02.01.2022 This time last year we closed to strike for action on climate change. The world as is means that this year gathering together to strike is not a responsible action to take in demand of action. This does not change the intense weather patterns that have been and continue to be experienced worldwide. It does not change our need for action. Today we will remain open for our standard hours but non-standardly we will be donating 30% of our sales to a charity/charities working to c...ombat climate change. Let us know if you have a charity that you would like to see us support - we always love suggestions. And if you are looking for a non-monetary way to support a better future on this day of change, consider contacting your local MP to confirm that is is important to you, that no public funds are allocated to gas and other fossil fuel projects. At the moment the Government is planning to give billions to the gas industry to lead economic recovery post covid. They’re preparing to give more money to fossil fuel companies than any other business sector. There are better ways to lead this recovery. Sometimes amazing change comes down from great governments with incredible foresight. Sometimes it needs to bubble up from individuals who listen to the scientists. Keep safe and be kind you legends! #notbusinessasusual #changeforgood #tripplebottomline
02.01.2022 Merry Friday to one and all For those confused customers, eagle eyed and beyond - you may have noticed a few changes in our store layout the past couple of weeks. As we continue to expand on the layout, a couple of things worth noting would be the location of all mainstay flour products now located underneath the oats and cereals on the left hand side of store (from entrance) - in larger bins. ... Also for the weekend we are out of stock on soy sauce which we do not have an ETA for return, and pumpkin kernels and sultanas coming Monday. But happily we have had Rumble drop off more decaf coffee Dishwashing powder also running down whilst we change over our supplier. Aside from these tidbits, we wish you the most splendid of weekends
01.01.2022 Out of stock alert Milk, yoghurt, olive oil & Laundry liquid Unfortunately our dairy deliveries this week haven’t been completely fulfilled which has meant we have sold out of milk and yoghurt. We are very sorry for this inconvenience. Our next delivery arrives Monday around 330pm.... Laundry liquid is also out of stock but will be back soon.
