24.01.2022 HOW TO KEEP ALMOST 8 BILLION KILOGRAMS OF CO FROM ENTERING OUR ATMOSPHERE! Figures taken from the Australian Bureau of Statistics for the year ended 30th June 2018 show that the following vehicles are registered on our roads in Australia: Passenger Vehicles 14,258,620 Light Commercial Vehicles 3,193,651... Rigid / Articulated Vehicles 594,744 Other (Busses non-freight trucks) 965,755 These vehicles consume 34,170,000,000 litres of fuel (either petrol or diesel) consumed in a 12-month period. Currently the government rakes in $0.418 per litre in excise. This is a total of $14,283,060,000 in excise not counting GST. That is 14 billion, 283 million and 60 thousand dollars. This does not take into account those vehicles that run on LPG. Of this total fuel, 45.8% is diesel which equals 15,649,860,000 litres. Some facts about this diesel: There are 2.68kg of Carbon Dioxide (CO) emitted per litre of diesel fuel burned. This totals 41,941,624,800kg of CO released into the atmosphere every year from diesel vehicles. There is 1.51kg of Carbon Dioxide (CO) emitted per litre of LPG burned. By adding LPG to diesel vehicles (which emits 1.51Kg per litre burned), a reduction in diesel usage of approximately 25% can be expected. So, let’s do the emissions math: Current CO emitted by diesel engines = 41,941,624,800Kg. CO emitted by engines running diesel and lpg = 31,456,218,600Kg from diesel and 2,660,476,200Kg. Total = 34,116,694,800Kg. This is a decrease in CO emissions of 7,824,930,000Kg or an 18.66% reduction. ALMOST 8 BILLION KILOGRAMS OF CO SAVED FROM OUR ATMOSPHERE! Why then are State and Federal governments not moving to act on this opportunity? $$$$$ DOLLARS $$$$$ With the reduction of Diesel (@$0.418 per ltr) sold and the increase of LPG (@ $0.137 per litre) sold, the math would look like this: Current excise takings for diesel only = $14,283,060,000 Excise takings for combined diesel / lpg use Diesel (@25% less use) = $10,712,295,000 LPG (17% to diesel usage) = $364,485,212 TOTAL EXCISE TAKINGS FROM DIESEL / LPG = $11,076,780,212 This is a decrease of $3,206,279,782 Plainly our governments do not want to lose this income and have done everything possible to shut down the automotive gas industry in this country.
