22.01.2022 ROS Session - TurtleBot UGV and Open_Manipulator When it comes to learning something new, nothing can beat hands-on experience. So with that in mind, on Wednesday 29/05/19, Reece and myself will be holding a ROS session where we will be assisting members in setting up and learning to operate the ROS based TurtleBot UGV and Open_Manipulator robot systems that the club has demonstrated previously at Sci-tech. This is a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience and furth...er your understanding of ROS. To maximise the potential learning and time that each person has with the robots, there will be a competent person in the club room from 9am until 3pm (perhaps later if there is a need for it) and as such we ask that you RSVP asap so that we can organise and optimise the best times for everyone. * NOTE * If you fail to RSVP, you can still come, however, those who did RSVP will have priority in both the help of the tutor, and the use of the bots. With all that said, we look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday! Time: 29-May-2019 09:00:00 - 29-May-2019 15:00:00 Location: Robotics Club Room Email: [email protected] *** EDIT *** Make sure that you bring your laptop with you with Ubuntu 16.04 already installed
21.01.2022 ECU ROBOTICS AGM On Monday 22nd July, ECU Robotics will be holding it's very first Annual General Meeting.
In preparation for the semester ahead, we encourage you to come along and be part of the discussion. Some of the items we will be addressing will be as follows:
Club goals for semester 2 2019 and summer break, including robot builds and member upskilling.
Potential internal/external robotics competitions for members.
Feedback opportun...ity (open-floor at meeting, but feel free to email admin or speak to a committee member with any feedback you may be uncomfortable with delivering in front of the whole club).
Open floor for you to share any ideas or suggestions moving forward.
And finally, we will be going through the formalities of nominating and voting in the clubs committee moving forward. You will be asked to vote in 5 committee members, specific details as to the roles and responsibilities of these members can be found in the clubs Constitution on the clubs google drive and further information will be discussed on the day.
With all that said, we look forward to seeing you on the day and please RSVP so that we can try to make sure everyone has seats and if required, organise an alternate meeting point (depending on room capacities). And once finished, we can get back to learning and implementing ROS on some cool robots.
See you all there!
Scott Cashman
Secretary

17.01.2022 Robot Build and Meet-Up Our TurtleBot3 and Open_Manipulator kits have arrived! Since these come in kits and require assembling, and this time of semester can be very stressful, we thought it would be a good idea to get a group of people involved in putting these kits together. This will provide an opportunity to not just build cool robots, but also socialise a little with fellow members and take a short break from study.... and build cool robots of course!... On Tuesday 16/04/19 (tomorrow), the clubs' room will be open from 13:30 until 16:00 for the purpose of building the robots, or if you prefer, you can cheer on those on the tools from the side-lines. After the kits have been assembled, we will be headed to the campus's pub for a quick pint, you are welcome to join us (just don't drink if you are driving). Feel free to come at any time from 13:30 onward, just know that it is first come first served when it comes to building the kits. Hope to see you soon Time: 16-Apr-2019 05:30:00 - 16-Apr-2019 09:00:00 Location: JO5.134 Email: [email protected]
16.01.2022 Our babies have arrived! Stay tuned for builds and first tests!
11.01.2022 Today we showed our new Open Manipulator and Turtle Bot 3 at Scitech!! Thanks for the opportunity Scitech. Thanks to the School of Engineering at Edith Cowan University (ECU) for supporting us. Meet the Scientist was a great success. We will be back tomorrow 26/4 between 10am and 2pm, come down and say hi. ECU Student Guild #ECU #ENGINEERING #MeetTheScientist #Robotics #ROS www.ecurobotics.com
09.01.2022 Great work Scott Cashman and Lochlan Dunne for designing and building the Club's first ROS Prototyping Board. You both have gone above and beyond with this project. These devices are going to assist the club greatly in allowing us to teach ROS basic concepts, configuration and debugging, allowing members to get there own ROS projects of the ground quicker. Love it and can't wait to have a play.
09.01.2022 2019 was an exciting year with the creation of the club's new Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) platform. This involved working from smaller prototypes to a much larger and faster vehicle that can take a variety of payloads. Keep tuned for 2020 as the project looks towards something more suited for production.
04.01.2022 Another great Arduino Workshop in our Club room 5.134 ECU Joondalup. This was the 2nd Arduino Workshop for the series. We also had our 2nd ROS Workshop this week. More workshops coming sign up at http://ecurobotics.com.
