Asking R U OK? is a great first step in looking out for someone that you care about, but its even more important to know how to keep the conversation going if your feeling is that something isnt... right and then to know how to encourage them to get help. 06.01.2022 Meet the EdConnect team! #MeetTheTeamMonday When did you begin working for EdConnect? I began at the beginning of 2019... Why do you love working for EdConnect? I love working for EdConnect because it’s a role that combines many of my interests and experiences. I taught in the primary school for 5 years and have held various careers within the education sector. Above all, I love that I am a part of helping students thrive. Hearing the stories from volunteers almost always moves me to tears and thus reinforces why I love working in this space. The work we do and the impact volunteers have on students is changing the world for better. Do you have a favourite volunteer story? To be honest, I want to hear more stories. Every single story I’ve heard so far has been inspiring and emotive and there would be no way for me to choose a favourite. Hearing the changes the kids go through is my favourite part Do you have a favourite EdConnect event? My favourite event is the Annual Awards for Volunteers. It’s a way for EdConnect to honour the volunteers and the amazing work they do. It’s important to recognise what a life-long impact their dedication has had for the individual student as well as the organisation as a whole. I love hearing how volunteering has affected the volunteers and what they enjoy from their experiences. Why would you recommend volunteering for EdConnect? Having taught in the classroom with students who didn’t have the best home, I know first-hand how important it is for these kids to have a positive role model. From behind the scenes, by volunteering specifically with EdConnect, I can guarantee that every staff here wants what’s best for both the student and volunteer and are extremely dedicated to making it a positive experience for everyone. I think it’s important for volunteers and schools to know just how hard we work to get support for schools and students. We are an organisation that supports and stands behind each volunteer.
