23.01.2022 The Rare Pink Flannel Flower A special Flower Friday. I quote;... The Pink Flannel Flower (Actinotus forsythii) is a special plant. We in the Blue Mountains think of it as our own, but it also occurs south to Victoria. Pink Flannel Flower Pink Flannel Flower (Actinotus forsythii) Photo: Jill DarkThe generic name, Actinotus, means bearing rays, referring to the petal-like bracts surrounding each flowerhead. The species is named for William Forsyth, a plant collector who worked in the early 1900s. Although superficially the flower looks like a daisy, Actinotus is in the family Apiaceae. Carrot, parsley and celery also belong in this family, and among our local natives, Platysace is a well-known genus. This is a plant which only seems to appear and flower the summer after a fire. Years will go by without any reports. It is an annual and the seed can lie dormant for many years, but with the right conditions, fire and spring rain, it can produce a spectacular display." - https://bmnature.info/flora-pink-flannel-flowers.shtml Some say it's been 50yrs since it was last sighted It's a flower that has been making the rounds; https://www.theguardian.com//rare-pink-flannel-flowers-blo It is bloody tiny, often 2cm only in diameter. Alas I only had a hour to scout and find one between errands, I thought I would exercise a little artistry into the colour grading. I hope it is well received. Happy special Flower Friday :)

16.01.2022 Pink Planet. Images taken Christmas 2020 at Glenbrook Gorge, Blue Mountains.

15.01.2022 Midas Touch / Bush & Bark Sometimes it's the smaller subtler things that catch my eye when bushwalking. Photography has taught me to slow down and absorb more of my environment and surroundings. Of course it annoys the family members, "C'mon Dad! Hurry up!"

11.01.2022 Christmas Cooking Someone is in the Christmas spirit! Now... if I could only convince my teenage son for ONE xmas portrait... wish me luck! Merry Christmas everyone xx

10.01.2022 Godzilla This gorgeous goanna was spotted this morning at Euroka Clearing, Blue Mountains, NSW. I believe it's a lace monitor.

09.01.2022 Christmas Cat 10yrs ago I surprised my wife and son with two kittens on Christmas Eve, they still prove to being the best pressie under the tree. Happy festive furry Friday!

09.01.2022 Bela Lugosi's Dead A sad Mono Monday today, RIP batty

09.01.2022 Mount Victoria Falls This past week I went for a long overdue bushwalk with a friend. It was the first time I'd done this walk (I was invited along with friends earlier in the year but couldn't do it at that time). With plenty of rain and overcast conditions it felt like the perfect opportunity to take advantage of fast-flowing waterfalls and a misty atmosphere. Unfortunately though, you lose the grand views in this weather so I'll definitely return to experience this walk in sunnier conditions.

06.01.2022 Here's a small series of monochrome shots taken a couple days ago at Butterbox Point, Blue Mountains. Thanks for looking.

04.01.2022 2020 ended on a positive note. My neighbour's grevillea tree saw some new visitors, finally something different to Red Wattlebirds! There seems to be some kind of turf dispute and the Rainbow Lorikeets are muscling in! I'm just glad to be photographing a different bird, I'll work on grabbing some battle shots in due course.

03.01.2022 Haggis, Neeps & Tatties Tonight is a little known celebration (and it shouldn't be). January 25 is 'Burns Supper', marking the birth of poet 'Rabbie Burns'. Think you've never heard of him? Think again. His songs and poetry extend around the world, especially at New Year. https://youtu.be/uoNUBqXRvbY... Whilst I do not like to get political with my posts I find Brexit fascinating. England wishing to leave the European Union and Scotland overwhelmingly voting to remain (a consistent opposing conflict that seems mirrored in other parts of the world). Whatever your political beliefs, humanity is facing difficult times. We must find common ground to survive, compassion will be paramount. Talk more, be open to change and hear our neighbours. Global awareness is important. Even a small country on the opposite side of the world should register on our radar (because it can directly impact us). If for no reason than any other I would like Australia Day's date shifted so I don't have to do back to back celebrations, my liver could do with a break :) We're all connected. #changethedate
