24.01.2022 Belair, Blackwood, Cherry Gardens, Coromandel valley , Eden Hills and Sturt Car 1 all part of Sturt strike team en-route to the Yumali fire, stay safe team.

24.01.2022 Courage is not the absence of fear. That would be stupidity. No, courage is being afraid... and going anyway. Never forget 09/11/01

23.01.2022 Very disappointing to find one wall of our fire station covered with mindless graffiti vandalism this week. It's not like we have enough to deal with on a daily basis... Huge thanks however to Damien from local business Adelaide Graffiti & Maintenance who went out of his way to provide an outstanding service and had everything cleaned up within 24 hours. Highly Recommended!

23.01.2022 This Saturday 29th of FEBRUARY the Sturt Group CFS will be hosting a BBQ fundraiser at Bunnings Warehouse Edwardstown. We will be there from 8am - 4pm. Come on down, grab a snag and help us help you!

23.01.2022 Key messaging for bushfire safety in SA given COVID restrictions From midnight tonight, a six-day initial stage of ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions will be implem...ented to protect the South Australian community from the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Review your Bushfire Survival Plan using the up-to-date advice on the SA Health website www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVID-19 UNDER LOCKDOWN During this initial restriction period, you can only leave your home for limited reasons. This includes during a bushfire emergency or if your home is unsafe. Some relocation destinations in Bushfire Safer Places will not be available due to these COVID-19 restrictions. - Cinemas and other public venues will be closed. - Visits to shopping centres are for essential food shopping only If you plan to stay with relatives or friends when you relocate to a Bushfire Safer Place, consider alternative arrangements if your plan is to stay with elderly relatives or immuno-compromised relatives or friends. This will reduce the risk of exposing vulnerable people to COVID-19. If you are in self-quarantine or self-isolation due to COVID-19, you can leave your home if you are in an emergency or your home is unsafe but try to get back into self-isolation as soon as you safely can. During an emergency, if you need to attend an emergency relief centre or a Bushfire Last Resort Refuge, you need to stay outside, alert emergency services (e.g. SAPOL, relief authorities at the location etc) and follow instructions. You must ensure you advise emergency services that you have been forced to leave self-quarantine or self-isolation due to the emergency and that: - you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case - you have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or if - you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or - you are in self-quarantine because you have recently returned from interstate. UNDER RESTRICTIONS State government restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Leaving early during COVID-19 will be a little different this summer. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, you can leave your home during an emergency or if your home is unsafe. Consider the following in your leave early plan to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19: During COVID-19 restrictions you may travel if you are doing so as part of your bushfire plan. If you are unwell or have symptoms, isolate yourself from others and ensure you always wear a face covering and get tested as soon as possible. Add to your 'Emergency Kit' - Additional face masks - Hand sanitiser - more than 60% alcohol - Antibacterial wipes Follow SA Health COVID-19 advice - Wear a face mask - Practise good hygiene. Wash or sanitise your hands when you enter someone else’s home, if possible - Do not shake hands, hug or kiss as a greeting - Maintain physical distancing, keep at least 1.5 metres away from others

22.01.2022 It’s fair to say that was an Australia Day long weekend none of us had planned on, but we’d like to thank everyone for heeding our messages, helping us to keep ...you safe. We would like to especially thank our emergency service partners- South Australia Police, SA Metropolitan Fire Service, SA State Emergency Service, SA Ambulance Service, National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia and those on Farm Fire Units, as well as those other agencies who have provided support to our firefighting efforts including (but not limited to) SA Power Networks, Local Government Association of South Australia, Forestry SA, SAVEM, SA Water, Primary Industries and Regions SA, The Salvation Army South Australia, Australian Red Cross - South Australia and St John Ambulance | SA. Our volunteers remain on the fireground monitoring the area for hotspots. We would like to remind the community to remain vigilant over the coming weeks, particularly keeping an eye out for falling branches and injured wildlife. It has truly been an all-round effort responding to the Cherry Gardens fire in extreme weather conditions. When nature does its worst, we will continue to do our best to keep people, livestock and properties safe.

22.01.2022 An Open Letter to the South Australian community: The 2019/20 Fire Danger Season officially finishes at midnight tonight, finalising one of the busiest seasons ...in our history. The CFS really started our season in September, more than a month before our own season officially started, as a horrendous start to the season in Queensland and New South Wales saw local crews stretched to their limits. Over the next three months until after Christmas, CFS dedicated more than 1,300 volunteer firefighter and incident management personnel to help these two states battle unprecedented bushfires. Unfortunately this was only the start of our efforts this season with our own fires burning in catastrophic conditions near Port Lincoln and Yorketown in November, followed by the large fires in Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island in December and January. These were only a handful of the thousands of fires our CFS volunteers attended throughout the fire season with large fires in every Region from Keilira in the South East, Coonalpyn, Miltalie on the Eyre Peninsula and unfortunately too many others to name. I took up the role of Chief Officer in October last year and was very quickly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of our many volunteers. This year in particular they gave up so much of their time, put their lives on the line and worked so hard to not only protect their local communities but travel throughout South Australia and interstate to help others. Thanks must also go to the South Australian community who heeded our warning messages at the beginning of the season and prepared their homes against bushfire threat. Unfortunately too many homes were lost with a total of 179 burned this season, many simply because of the ferocity of the fires. The CFS bitterly regrets those losses and the tragic loss of 3 South Australians during the worst of the Fire Danger Season. The community also listened and acted when we issued warning messages. Those three lives lost to bushfires this year is three too many. However, I am thankful that we were able to provide timely and accurate warnings to the communities impacted so they could make safe decisions for themselves and their families. Thank you also to the communities for supporting us and each other throughout the fires. To see the generosity to our firefighters, especially on Christmas Day brought warmth to the heart. Thank you to all of those who have since had bake sales, fundraisers or simply donated to the CFS Foundation. That money will go towards supporting our volunteers in their time of need. I also want to thank CFS staff and our supporting agencies, SA Metropolitan Fire Services, SA State Emergency Service, Department for Environment and Water, SAPOL and all other organisations who contributed. The ability for those staff to get on with the job and provide results is testament to their abilities. At the moment we are continuing to help South Australians by being embedded in the State Command Centre for Health, managing the COVID-19 pandemic in this State. Only days after the request came through, our teams were at SA Health to support them as they faced a health emergency of unknown scale and duration. We knew anything we could do to support them as the control agency had to be a good thing. Of course the work does not end here. Our volunteers continue to attend structure fires, hazardous material incident, road crashes and to assist other agencies, as their work continues. I thank them for their amazing efforts and urge the community to continue to practice fire safety as we move into the winter months, and be careful on our roads. I dearly hope that more normal times will resume once the Coronavirus crisis has passed but South Australians can be assured that its Firefighters remain ready and available to answer calls for help whatever the challenges we face. Mark Jones, Chief Officer SA Country Fire Service

22.01.2022 As a brigade we strive to better ourselves and sharpen our skills with weekly training. Last night one of our drills focused on utilising on-site hydrant booster systems and getting to work off remote pillar hydrants. Also a great time to familiarise ourselves with the site layout and risks onsite.

22.01.2022 2020/2021 FIRE DANGER SEASON HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED Here it is, folks. The fire danger season for the Mount Lofty Ranges and Adelaide Metro areas have officially been declared to start on December 1st. NOW is the time to get your homes bushfire ready!

22.01.2022 It's not all about firefighting... A group of Eden Hills members got together this week and enjoyed a fantastic, if very cold, few days of camping and 4WDing... Fun times!

21.01.2022 IT IS NOT OVER YET. Tomorrow, Thursday 19/3/2020 has been declared a total fire ban in the Mount Lofty Ranges with an EXTREME rating. This is is the level below catastrophic! If a fire starts, it will be unpredictable and extremely dangerous. We are still in the fire danger season! Please keep your bushfire action plans ready and in place.... Despite what is going on in the world right now, we are still here, 24/7, if you need us. Stay safe everyone See more

21.01.2022 Halloween has snuck up on us very fast! Which also means that the fire danger season is just around the corner. While the weather is still reasonably cool, it is the perfect time to get your home summer ready. Last year's bushfire season was one of the worst we have seen in a long time. Prepare your homes now to #bebushfireready. Prepare, act, survive. Have a safe and happy Halloween

20.01.2022 This picture has a very important message. Notice half of the tree is extremely dry and the leaves are burnt? Then, notice the unburnt gound around the tree? That is radiant heat from a bushfire. Now... imagine that tree is your house or car. ... At this point, it is far too late to leave, because under the right conditions, the fire would be there within minutes. Radiant heat is one of the BIGGEST killers in a bushfire. For the best chance of survival, you must leave early if safe to do so. Prepare, act, survive.

19.01.2022 The CFS State Training Centre Digital Learning Team continued their Simulation Training trials yesterday, with volunteers from Sturt CFS Group. Some great feedb...ack was received on how the Digital Learning Team can improve the training scenarios and make them more realistic. Cmdr Tim McNeilly joined in for the day, in particular to see how the HazMat scenario runs, and to look at how simulation could be used in future Technical Operations training.

19.01.2022 To all of our local community and Facebook followers the team here at Eden Hills CFS would like to wish you all a very safe and Happy Easter. Please be assured even in these very different and challenging times we are here for you 24/7, 365 days a year. This morning under very strict conditions a few of our members were carrying out vital equipment checks .Stay safe and let's beat this together # Covid 19

18.01.2022 Still terrible (haha, sorry CFA), but still absolutely true! Now is the perfect time to start preparing your properties and homes for the upcoming bushfire season. As we always say: Prepare, act, survive.

17.01.2022 There is currently a severe weather warning in place for DAMAGING WINDS for parts of South Australia. They are expected to hit Adelaide and the Mount Lofty Ranges this afternoon. Please take extra care on the roads and put any loose items away. As always, we are here if you need, 24/7.

17.01.2022 Absolutely intense footage of a fire in Canberra crossing the road. The truck has implemented their burn over protection, which is crucial to help ensure the safety of the crew inside. Our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters battling these blazes, and with those who have lost everything.

16.01.2022 A prescribed burn is planned at Upper Sturt on Thursday 22 October 2020, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will commence at 12 noon and is like...ly to be completed by 7:00pm. A list of planned prescribed burns is available on the Department for Environment and Water website. https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//upcoming-prescribed-bur See more

15.01.2022 Speed of Yumali fire a prime example of the dangers faced this Bushfire Season Late winter rains have resulted in large volumes of grass and crop growth across ...the state. Country Fire Service State Duty Commander Yvette Dowling said, the extra growth in areas that are yet to be harvested increase the risk of fast-moving fires. When fire enters crops or heavily grassed areas, we see very fast-moving fire, Ms Dowling said. The Yumali fire consumed almost 5,000 hectares in four hours. The fire travelled with such speed that it was not safe for us to put our trucks in front of it in an attempt to extinguish, Ms Dowling said. The fire burned with such ferocity that at times it was difficult for our firebombers to attack the flames. Fire investigators from SA Police, SA Metropolitan Fire Service and SA Country Fire Service are attending this morning to determine the cause of the fire. Unfortunately, one house and one shed has been destroyed in the fire. The CFS airfleet completed 48 drops of firefighting products onto the fire, totalling more than 110,000 litres of product dropped from above. Two people were injured during the fire. A CFS four-wheel drive was involved in a head-on collision with a private vehicle on the fireground, with all occupants cleared of major injuries. This fire has given us an early reminder that, even though we have had recent rainfall and cooler conditions, there is still a great potential for large scale fires. You need to ensure your property is cleaned up now, and you have a Bushfire Survival Plan. Under COVID-19 lockdown conditions, residents are allowed to leave their properties in cases of emergency. More details on how to create a Bushfire Survival Plan can be found at cfs.sa.gov.au See more

15.01.2022 Victoria On this day 12 years ago, the Black Saturday bushfires ravaged Victoria, in what was the most devastating bushfire in Australian history. Firefi...ghters Australia remembers the 173 lives tragically lost in the Black Saturday bushfires, and our thoughts are with the 78+ Victorian communities affected. Stay safe this bushfire season. Always have a fire safety plan and be prepared.

14.01.2022 An historic event! A firey's a firey at Eden Hills, regardless of gender, but we felt this was worth a mention... Today, we believe for the first time in our 70 year history, Eden Hills fielded an all - female crew! These firefighters are heading out to assist with blacking out of the Cherry Gardens fires and will no doubt do an outstanding job!

13.01.2022 Last weekend two of our Firefighters attained their SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) qualification at the State training centre (STC) in Brukunga. These Firefighters are now qualified in offensive and defensive firefighting on external and internal structures, vehicle fires, Entry Control officer (ECO) and much more. Congratulations Lani and Victoria.

13.01.2022 Media and the public are advised that TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for 15 November 2020 in the following Fire Ban Districts: Northwest Pastoral - Severe N...ortheast Pastoral - Severe Eastern Eyre Peninsula - Severe Flinders - Extreme Mid North - Extreme Mount Lofty Ranges - Severe Yorke Peninsula - Severe Riverland - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire. Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. For further information contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361 or visit https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au

05.01.2022 With the weather getting a bit warmer and weekends getting nicer!! now is the time of the year we should be starting to think about preparing our properties for the coming fire season. Further information can be found here if you don't know where to start!! https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/simplethings/index.html... Today an Eden Hills crew conducted a pile burn for a resident in Bellevue Heights to assist with their bushfire preparation

05.01.2022 Amazing to think this was three years ago, this caught the eye of Marine biologists and specialists all around the world as a once in a lifetime event.Eden Hills Crew put all their Hazardous material (HAZMAT) specialist training to use on this callout and thankfully it all ended ok for everybody involved..

05.01.2022 While the CFS is best known for our Bushfire response, we also play a major role in responding to incidents where there are hazardous or potentially hazardous m...aterials involved. We have 33 HazMat brigades who are strategically located across to the state to provide a response to chemical spills and other hazardous materials emergencies. CFS volunteers in the HazMat brigades take part in additional training in HazMat Operations and Atmospheric Monitoring, to ensure they can safely respond to a variety of different incidents, from farm yard accidents, winery chemical spills, and as recently seen Culburra, dangerous goods truck rollovers. CFS HazMat brigades can often travel great distances to provide a specialist response which, often involves spending long durations clearing and cleaning up incidents, to ensure the community and the environment are safe. To all those in our HazMat Brigades, who undertake this extra service, we say Thank you! #ColouryourCommunityRed #SAVolunteer #NVW2020 #NationalVolunteerWeek #thankyoufiries #morethanabushfireservice See more

05.01.2022 Earlier this week a crew from Eden Hills was privileged to attend a Road Awareness Program presentation by MFS Firefighter Michael Clark and road crash survivor Eli Murn at Blackwood High School. This program is a great initiative of the MFS aimed at reducing fatalities and injuries on our roads, and particularly aimed at young drivers. If your school doesn't receive this presentation for year 11/12 students, get on to it!!

04.01.2022 This is so sad,These are the Firefighters guardian angels and our heroes. RIP

04.01.2022 Blackwood & Eden Hills Country Fire Service volunteers practiced their rescue skills together last night. A mock drill was conducted to carefully lift a car and free a person from underneath it.

03.01.2022 Eden Hills CFS will be featured tonight on ABC channel from 7pm as part of their Bushfire Recovery Special and how firefighters are coping post bushfires. Make sure you are watching this interesting story!

02.01.2022 This weekend brings an end to daylight savings. When you go to change your clocks, remember to change your smoke alarm batteries! We are getting to the time of year when it is getting cold, which means people are lighting their fire places, cooking inside more (rather than on the bbq!) and turning on electric blankets. Smoke alarms save lives!

01.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN DECLARED FOR FRIDAY 27/11 IN THE MOUNT LOFTY RANGES (EXTREME)

01.01.2022 The Ash Wednesday bushfires, known in South Australia as Ash Wednesday, were a series of bushfires that occurred in south-eastern Australia on 16 February 1983.... Within twelve hours, more than 180 fires fanned by winds of up to 110 km/h (68 mph) caused widespread destruction across the state. Years of severe drought and extreme weather combined to create one of Australia's worst fire days in a century. There were 28 deaths in South Australia, including 3 CFS volunteer fire-fighters who died while protecting the community. Many fatalities were as a result of firestorm conditions caused by a sudden and violent wind change in the evening which rapidly changed the direction and size of the fire front. The speed and ferocity of the flames, aided by abundant fuels and a landscape immersed in smoke, made fire suppression and containment impossible. In many cases, residents fended for themselves as fires broke communications, cut off escape routes and severed electricity and water supplies. We take a moment today to remember those that were lost in this devastating fire and our hearts go out to those people who still are still haunted by this awful day. . . #SouthAustraliaBushfires #AshWednesday #CountryFireService #CFS #SACFS #CFSFoundation #SupportingCFSVolunteersSince2001
