25.01.2022 VALE TYSON BALE The Ellinbank & District Football League is sad to hear the passing of Tyson Bale. Tyson was an outstanding player whose hard running and unflinching courage was never questioned. ... He played with both the Buln Buln Football Club and the Warragul Industrials Football Netball club, represented our league with distinction at both junior and senior level, and twice won the EDFL MVP award the first in 2014 when he was still eligible for the U18s and therefore the Arthur Pollard award as well that year. The EDFL would like to pass on our condolences to the Bale family. Roger Gwynne EDFL President

23.01.2022 COMMUNITY FOOTBALL TRAINING Richard Black Head of AFL Gippsland released the following statement this afternoon. Good Afternoon All,... On the back of today’s State Government announcement around easing some restrictions, we have been advised that AFL Victoria’s position around training is that no sanctioned training should take place until further notice. AFL Victoria will seek clarity from the State Government around what today’s announcement means for community football and will be in contact in due course. A number of considerations around health and safety protocols and insurance need to be worked through prior to any training being sanctioned. AFL Victoria will provide AFL Gippsland with a return to play protocol for our community leagues and clubs once it is approved by the State Government. As soon as I have more information I’ll be in touch. Richard

21.01.2022 EDFL TO MOVE TO 16.5 & 18.5 AGE GROUPS FOR THE 2021 SEASON. This post is to advise that the AFL Gippsland Commission has approved the request by the Ellinbank & District Football League to move to U16.5 and U18.5 age groups for the 2021 season. This request was put to the AFL Gippsland Commission after a motion was put to our clubs if they wanted to change our junior age groups for the 2021 season only. The majority of the EDFL clubs supported the motion and therefore it was ...carried. The EDFL believe this change will assist retention rates, give the players who missed out last year one more opportunity to play at junior level and a stronger likelihood more clubs will field teams at both junior levels. A win-win for the league, clubs and many players.

17.01.2022 AFL VICTORIA RETURN TO SMALL OUTDOOR GROUP TRAINING PROTOCOLS Yesterday AFL Victoria released their Return to Small Outdoor Group Training Protocols for all Victorian clubs. The memo provided all clubs with the tools and required guidelines for compliant training sessions to resume on or after 25 May 2020. Note that 25 May is the date that club sanctioned training can resume within the scope of the protocols, but it is not the date that they must start training. When, or if,... a club resumes training is at the discretion of the club. To start training there are many protocols to implement among the key ones clubs must: Appoint a COVID Officer. 14.01.2022 EDFL SEASON UPDATE & PROPOSAL FOR A JUNIOR COMPETITION IN 2020 This post is to restate that all clubs were advised the Ellinbank & District Football League (EDFL) Board of Management Meeting (BOM) made the following decision on 4 June:- UNLESS ALL RESTRICTIONS ARE REMOVED BY 30 JUNE THE 2020 EDFL FOOTBALL SEASON WILL NOT BE VIABLE. ... Therefore the season will not proceed unless the restrictions are lifted. This decision was not made lightly. It was based on feedback from all 10 clubs and had the endorsement from EDNA and the GUA. Among dozens of concerns tabled by our clubs should the season proceed all were worried that with no spectators or if only 500 were allowed it would still not be enough to generate a suitable financial return. All clubs also said they did not want to risk the health of the community and most had doubts they could satisfactorily meet the hygiene requirements. The BOM agreed that it was vital to put the safety of the community first and not put at risk the finances of the league and clubs in 2020 - in order to ensure a more prosperous base for the EDFL in 2021 and beyond. The EDFL value the importance of community sport - in particular junior sport and hence propose to host some form of junior competition - but not for premiership points. We are considering a number of options. These range from a 1 day or 2 day weekend round robin - lightning premiership through to a 4 week or 6 week competition with a final, cup presentation and medals for the winning players. The EDFL hope all clubs will participate at both U16 & 18 level but if not it has a few alternative options for just an U16 or U18 competition. We are confident all clubs will support this proposal. The final format of this proposed competition and whether it can be played in July, August or September will depend on whether clubs can meet the next round of the Victorian State Government guidelines. As soon as these are released the league will do its utmost to keep clubs informed on its plan for a junior competition.

12.01.2022 TRAFALGAR FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB TO JOIN THE EDFL IN 2021 The Ellinbank & District Football League are pleased to announce that the Trafalgar Football Netball club will join our league for the 2021 season. All of our 10 member clubs were required to cast a vote on the affiliation of the Trafalgar FNC by COB Wednesday 28th November. This was a change of process as a Special Meeting was scheduled for Monday 26th October but it was cancelled due to the COVID restrictions and the... ballot vote held via email instead which was within the EDFL constitution guidelines. The vote was as follows: 8 Clubs voted for their presence and 2 against. Under the EDFL Constitution the application of a club is accepted if and only if it is supported by two-thirds (66%) of the members. As 80% voted for; the EDFL executive approve the application of the Trafalgar FNC to join our league in 2021. The EDFL Board of Management feel Trafalgar’s presence will help underwrite the future of the competition. It has proven to be a strong, successful and financial club in the Mid Gippsland FNL over many years and importantly should also enhance our junior ranks and league sponsorship opportunities. The EDFL also sought a vote of all member clubs to move to U/16.5 & U18.5 Age levels for 2021. The vote was as follows: 7 Clubs voted for the change and 3 against. Only a 50% majority is required to pass this vote as it not a change to the constitution. Therefore the EDFL will push for U/16.5 & U18.5 Age levels for 2021. However clubs please note the EDFL has been advised it is the responsibility of AFL Victoria Country and or Commission to set, or approve any changes in the age grouping structure within an Area or Commission, in consultation with affected leagues. Therefore while this motion was passed by our clubs it will still require AFL Gippsland approval. We will seek a response from AFL Gippsland ASAP.

12.01.2022 EDFL CALL OFF THE 2020 SEASON. STATEMENT FROM LEAGUE PRESIDENT ROGER GWYNNE This communication is to announce the EDFL have called off the 2020 season. This applies to both senior and junior grades. A vote of all clubs was held at a meeting on 24 June and nine clubs decided to abandon the season in accordance with our league statement on 4 June to not proceed if all the restrictions were not removed by the end of the month. ... It was a tough decision. It was not made lightly and only made after many hours of discussion with all clubs. The EDFL Board of Management (BOM) very much wanted to proceed with a junior competition and all clubs put forward ideas to meet the restrictions but ultimately most clubs along with the board of management were adamant the health and wellbeing of the community was more important. Our research also found a shortened season would be a financial liability on both the league and clubs and further feedback from our clubs suggested they may have difficulty managing the social distancing and biosecurity measures. I’d like to thank all clubs for their co-operation over recent months. I am confident the right decision has been made and it will ensure all clubs and the league be in a stronger position for the 2021 season. EDNA have called off their senior grades and will release details about the future of the junior competition in due course. Roger Gwynne EDFL President

02.01.2022 "Ellinbank and District Netball and Football Amalgamation Committee Meet" The first meeting of the newly formed joint committee for the Ellinbank and District Netball Association (EDNA) and Ellinbank District Football League (EDFL) was held last week to discuss recommendations and terms of a merger of the 2 organisations.... The working party is comprised of Lynn Whelan (Chair) as an independent representative, also Jenny Muir and Adam Tyson as independent reps. Baw Baw Shire Councillor Peter Kostos will be the 4th independent member of the group after Council was approached for a delegate to join. The league representatives are Karen Porter (EDNA President) and Rachel Ronaldson (EDNA Vice President) also Madison Louden (EDFL Secretary) and Ken White (EDFL Vice President). This was seen as a good balance to move forward with this project after the initial kick off meeting in November last year. Lynn Whelan was voted in chair on the night, she has some very good insight and experience from when the Alberton League went down the same path around a decade ago. The working group will be meeting regularly to discuss board models for the new organisation, terms of reference, model of governance and an amalgamation schedule. Ultimately anything that the board recommends will have to be ratified by the EDNA and EDFL and their clubs. A separate recommendation will be the name of the new entity. If the amalgamation goes ahead a name change is inevitable, but the more contentious issue could be moving away from the Ellinbank and District moniker that has historic significance. Again, this will have to also be ratified by both organisations. April 10th, 2021 is the date of the first round of the EDFL and EDNA and is currently the date that the committee would like all clubs to have voted on any recommendations that are tabled. For all Press Release enquiries please contact chair Lynn Whelan on 0400 196
