20.01.2022 In order to improve Employment rates for people with disability and shift workplace mindsets further towards accessibility and inclusion, EDGE is conducting a body of research. The research will assist in further understanding barriers to employment for people with disability and will form the basis of a publicly available report. The report will provide meaningful insights designed to drive much needed lasting change within workplaces and form the basis of initiatives to fac...ilitate this change. Vital to this research is the input of people with disability themselves, and to this end we are looking for candidates to take part in a 30 minute interview and provide us with valuable insight from their perspective. The interviews will be conducted by Core Data, and the interviewees will be rewarded with a $60 online gift voucher for their time and efforts. We are looking for input from candidates at any stage of employment (pre, post or current) that have not used EDGE Employment Solutions services previously. If you would be open to taking part in such an interview or know somebody else who might, please contact Bec Guilbert, Marketing and Communications Manager on [email protected]

20.01.2022 Did you know that we host the NDCO Program for Western Australia? We asked local Coordinators Will, Kirsty and Bernard (pictured above) who are based at our Subiaco office, to tell us a little bit more about what they do and why the program is so important... The Australian Government’s National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program works strategically to assist people with disability access and participate in tertiary education and subsequent employment, through a n...ational network of regionally based NDCOs. The program seeks to increase the knowledge and awareness of people with disability about their post-school options and supports them to participate in education and subsequent employment to the same extent as people without disability. NDCOs have developed effective relationships with stakeholders who operate across the school to work continuum to identify barriers and to develop collaborative responses to needs. These stakeholders include schools, the Department of Education, Government agencies (NDIA, NDIS), DES providers, JobActive providers, Tertiary education institutions, Community Colleges, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), Group Training Organisations (GTOs) and alternative education program providers. The NDCO team in WA has been hosted and supported by EDGE Employment Solutions since 2008. We are very proud to host a program which is so vital to improving the school to work transition for people with disability. It’s something we are very passionate about here at EDGE and firmly believe it's the most effective way to a life filled with equal opportunity, meaning and independence! If you'd like to connect with the NDCO team you can call (08) 9286 6600 or email [email protected]. You can also visit their website https://www.ndcowa.net.au/ or follow them on https://www.linkedin.com//national-disability-coordinatio/ and https://www.facebook.com/ndcoprogram/.

19.01.2022 Finding a job has changed my life says Daniel. Pan Pacific Hotel Perth partnered with EDGE in 2019 to provide employment for people with disability. In February 2020, Daniel joined the food and beverage team at Pan Pacific Perth. From the outset it was a team effort. Daniel first approached Pan Pacific Perth about the role himself, and when it became apparent that he was a strong contender, EDGE wo...rked with Daniel to assist in contract negotiation and transitioning into the workplace to ensure that he would be set up for success in the long-term. Daniel’s EDGE Job Coach Antoinette is full of praise and says Daniel has been an absolute delight. His work ethic is absolutely amazing. So much so, that Daniel was recently appointed Team Leader of In-Room Dining and Room Service and Pan Pacific Perth recently started looking at developing Daniel’s event management skills as the next progression in his career. Daniel is delighted; Meeting and serving people is what I love the most about working at Pan Pacific Perth. 11.01.2022 One of EDGE’s Clients Leighton applied for a role advertised on Facebook by Kerrageous Koffee. He was assisted in following-up the role by EDGE Employer Consultant Sharon as Leighton did not have the desired driver license and needed assistance to overcome this factor. Anna, the owner of Kerrageous Koffee, a coffee and food van, was convinced to give him a go as she was very impressed with Leighton’s personality and ability to engage with customers. Kerrageous Koffee now curr...ently employs two EDGE Clients, Leighton and Sam. Anna said that EDGE have been able to assist her by knowing she will not be judged for asking questions about how to engage with people with disability. During the beginning of both Leighton and Sam's employment, Anna reported a period of wondering what she had gotten herself into, however this was short-lived due to the support she received from EDGE. She stated we have gained two loyal Employees, which is something that money cannot buy." "You’re never going to know, unless you give it a go was Anna's advice to other Employers considering employing a person with a disability.
