18.01.2022 Tomorrow starts the new Facebook rule where they can use your photos. Don't forget the Deadline is today!!! It can be used in court cases in litigation against you. Everything you've ever posted becomes public from today - even messages that have been deleted. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry. I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past, and future.... With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents including the personal information contained in my profile. The violation of privacy can be punished by law NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this. If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tacitly allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste. Their new algorithm chooses the same few people - about 25 - who will read your posts. Therefore: Hold your finger down anywhere in this post and "copy" will pop up. Click "copy". Then go to your page, start a new post and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. "Paste" will pop up and click paste This will bypass the system. I DO NOT GIVE FACEBOOK PERMISSION TO SHARE ANYTHING THAT I HAVE PUT ON THEIR SITE, INCLUDING PICTURES, CURRENT OR PAST POSTS, PHONE NUMBERS OR EMAILS. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CAN BE USED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT MY WRITTEN PERMISSION.

16.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new factsheet: Bioremediation for Urban Gardeners, written by soil toxicologist and HCS program creator Danielle S...tevenson, as part of our Healing City Soils project! This factsheet is an introduction to beginner-level phyto (plant) remediation in soils that are contaminated with low to moderate levels of heavy metals. By working with native and non-native plants phyto-remediation is a process that slowly extracts heavy metal contaminants from soil. The factsheet is available for free online at our website: https://compost.bc.ca//2/09/19-Bioremediation_no-image.pdf Bioremediation for Urban Gardeners is the third factsheet in the CEC's factsheet series all about soil health and best practices if higher-than-normal levels of heavy metals are detected in your soil. If you're interested in diving in, we recommend that you start with factsheets #11 and #12, which introduce you to soil contamination and best practices for growing food in urban spaces. The beautiful image pictured below is snip of our Hyperaccumulator poster created by local artist Natassia Davies (@ natassiaashley on Instagram), which will soon be available for sale at the CEC- stay tuned!

06.01.2022 ABORIGINAL KILNS Women carrying, preparing and cooking 'Bulrush', Cumbungi, GUMBUNG (Wemba Wemba) BOURT-DEET (Wurundjeri) roots in the plains area of the Lower ...Murray River. From William Blandowski's expedition to the lower Murray between 1856 and 1857 (Central Murray Vic/NSW). The women collected the roots in shallow swamps between January and March as a staple vegetable food throughout the high summer period. The small secondary roots are taken off, then the bigger roots are tied into bundles and put onto heated in earth and clay kilns and roasted for 2-3 hours. - - - - - Johann Wilhelm Theodor Ludwig von Blandowski (1822-1878), was a Polish born German explorer and zoologist. He is most known for his exploration of the Murray and Darling Region aided by a German naturalist, Gerard Krefft, illustrating animals, plants and birds. He appeared to have an interest in First Nations people and their practices by the numerous illustrations. Although not fully understood, it is documented that he had a fall-out with the scientific community in Melbourne after holding a position of colonial prestige, and although it is said that the fall-out was due to his ego, there must have also been an issue with his interest in First Nations peoples, as the other intellectuals had incurious attitudes towards them, at best. Blandowski left Melbourne and returned to Germany after a very public fall-out with his contemporaries and took many of his illustrations with him. His sister made them available to the public upon his death but many were not seen by most people in Australia for over 100 years. A comprehensive collection of the illustrations are now included in a book edited by Harry Allen and published by AIATSIS in 2010, including this image.
