Twenty-three countries and 150 of the worlds best anglers competed in challenging conditions over five days in the rivers outside Launceston and in the lakes of the Central Highlands region. Competitors were mesmerised by Tasmanias rugged landscapes, incredible wildlife and world class trout fishing. Many of the competitors are s...taying on to explore further. Tourism Australia supported the event through its Great Fishing Adventures of Australia collective. Australia, why travel overseas so readily? Garry

21.01.2022 Some further thoughts on, on-line social media Reviews and the hazards associated with this. Hence the importance of a company like Edge Insights. Both Google and Facebook are obviously very important to us all, but it is paramount we all understand that when it comes to Reviews, there are a lot of bad practices of Reviewers it is stated who are paid to give great Reviews, Or paid to give Bad Reviews, or persons who didnt get a free dessert, as they demand in return for a g...ood Review, or opposition business operators who feel giving Bad Reviews is a right of passage, and on it goes. Of course Google and Facebook are doing what they can, (to some degree) but when these anonymous Reviewers cannot be identified, they tend to say what ever they like, as they believe no one knows who they are, it will only be more controlled as they are identified and sued for their false Reviews. A very important article written by Nassiam. (See full story on ABC News) From ABC Business reporter Nassiam Khaden (Precis) Online giants Google and Facebook are likely to face further court orders forcing them to identify people behind potentially defamatory statements made on their sites, lawyers warn. Key points: Facebook and Google do not disclose the names of individuals posting offensive and potentially defamatory material unless there is a court order Lawyers predict more people will succeed in getting court orders that force the companies to identify the person posting Despite more expected litigation, the US companies are unlikely to change their policies to keep the identities of users private But experts argue the companies are unlikely to self-regulate and change policies to reveal user identities without court orders. Last week, a Melbourne dentist who claimed he was defamed in an anonymous online review convinced a Federal Court judge to order Google to unmask the disgruntled customer. Dr Matthew Kabbabe claimed the potentially defamatory reviews, written under a pseudonym "CBsm 23", had cost him a significant amount of money. After Google refused to identify the reviewer, Dr Kabbabe went to court and succeeded in getting an order that now forces Google to identify the reviewer so that Dr Kabbabe can launch legal action if he chooses to. Some plaintiffs have already succeeded with such defamation cases through the courts. In early February, Adelaide lawyer Gorden Cheng won a $750,000 defamation payout against a woman who gave his firm a bad review on Google. Mr Cheng told the court he lost about 80 per cent of his clients between the bad review and when a former client made him aware of it in February 2019 Food for thought as they say Garry

19.01.2022 This incident is an excellent example of why Edge Insights is so succesful. Clients do not gain an insight into their business operations, when negative social media comments can so affect their business, especially when patrons are at fault, as well as rude, self obsessed, exaggerate, lie, demanding and on the comments go. . How often do operators at cafes and restaurants just simply not respond to negative comments on social media, as they dont have time, or they say wha...ts the point. Our visitors are non biased, and write a report on an actual experience, they are not subjective, they write on a specialist report about their experience, and therefore operators of cafes and restaurants know 100 percent how their business is performing, how the staff are interacting with customers, and what type of REAL experience a customer is having. Restaurants and cafes operators and staff in general do an amazing job serving their community and other tourists from region and interstate at times from overseas, rude and dishonest customers to say the least need to stop trying to get attention on some social media platform by telling porkys. How do I know this. Edge Insights has now visited over 4000 restaurants and cafes with mystery visitors for clients. See more

19.01.2022 Further for discussion should be how do Australian Hotels, Motels, Caravan Park Cabins, Resorts, AirBNB and Bed and Breakfast venues etc guarantee rooms are deep cleaned after each guest has left regarding Covid 19?. As we would if travelling overseas. Is there in place yet a certification on room cleanliness? This is from Choice Hotels Asia Pacific for example.... Our commitment to health and safety The health and safety of guests is a top priority for Choice Hotels and its thousands of independently owned and operated franchised hotels: We have shared best practices with our hotel owners regarding heightened cleaning, sanitation and disinfecting protocols. Our vendors provide our hotels with training to meet these standards and necessary cleaning supplies that may be used to combat the spread of COVID-19. We have adjusted most on-property food and beverage service to focus on pre-packaged offerings. We have activated our response teams to provide around-the-clock guidance and support to our hotels. We continue to provide our hotel owners with up-to-date information and training from vendors and health authorities (including the CDC) through our online portal. Hotels may be changing services and amenities to comply with local jurisdictional requirements and support public health best practices. Do all venues that promote themselves as accommodation providers have similar policies in place in Australia? Maybe worth asking when booking.

19.01.2022 Just a reminder that when in Perth or Scarborough WA, go and enjoy some food and drinks at one of these venues. Our clients at the Ark Group have some great venues, great locations, so come on , off you go. Market Grounds in Perth, Scarborough Beach Bar, The Peach Pit, Durty Nelly's and Generous Squire in Perth. Highly recommended

18.01.2022 Australias favourite attraction is now reopening, after a long enforced holiday due to Coronavirus. Do yourselves a favour and if planning a trip why not consider Ballarat and this famous multi award winning attraction. I am always in awe everytime I go there. A wonderful living museum of 1840s and 50s Australia

18.01.2022 Now here is a thought, if in Melbourne go and visit SeaLife Melbourne Aquarium, they amongst everything else have a new jellyfish exhibit, or if in Mooloolaba Sealife there have a new penguin home. NEW SEA LIFE EXHIBITS IN MELBOURNE VIC AND SUNSHINE COAST QLD SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium and SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast (formerly Underwater World) are set to open new exhibits in time for the summer school holidays. SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium will open an immersive new $1.5 millio...n jellyfish exhibit, Ocean Invaders, where guests can descend into the mysteriously fascinating world of jellyfish with three interactive zones pulsing with multiple species, while SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast will become home to a delightful colony of little penguins, opening the Little Blue Penguins zone. 18.01.2022 A place you should visit, a great day out Edge Insight client

17.01.2022 Here is a nice story, so thought it worthy of placing on Facebook, so that we all once this horror has passed, we may plan trips in our own country and one way is to visit areas where these Koalas have been released. Story courtesy of Tourism Australia Koalas released back into the wild KOALAS RELEASED BACK INTO THE WILD... Three groups of koalas will be released back to their original habitats near Port Macquarie this week. There are 26 koalas in total, including seven joeys. Staff at the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital are hopeful that these koalas will go on to create new koala populations in the area. One of the koalas, four-year-old Anwen, was admitted into the Koala Hospitals intensive care unit with badly burnt arms suffered after the January bushfires. After receiving a lot of love and care from the Koala Hospital, her wounds healed and she was moved to an external rehabilitation unit where she made a full recovery. Staff and volunteers at the Koala Hospital treated 49 injured koalas which were rescued from burnt areas in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region and beyond. The facilitys care and rehabilitation for koalas has also expanded to those coming from Taree, the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury. Koalas from these regions have now been returned to their original home areas for release. See more

17.01.2022 This says it all It is important more than ever to travel inter or intra state or territory of Australia. Book direct with accommodation, not through a accommodation booking service (keep the commission at hotel not overseas). We travelled for example to Goolwa, and Victor Harbour, recently, met some unimpressed pelicans down at the Barrages (The Goolwa Barrages comprise five barrage structures in the channels separating Lake Alexandrina from the sea at the mouth of the Ri...ver Murray and the Coorong in South Australia ), then of course there is the Mighty Murray river exit to Ocean, and a wonderful pace called Victor Harbour, with the Victor Harbour Horse drawn tram (1894: The First Horse Drawn Tram Passenger Service. For many years goods were conveyed between the mainland and the island on railway trucks drawn by horses. Many visitors to Victor Harbor delighted in the walk across the Causeway to the island. As it had become a local attraction, and the rail line already existed, the South Australian Railways decided to utilise one of the their unused horse-drawn passenger trams to offer a service to the island. On 27 December 1894 the passenger horse tramway was established., thats 1894. plus nearby there are the rides on the camels at beach as well as ponies for children. Then there is the whale/shark etc museum. A lot for children to do here. So off you go

16.01.2022 Looking at the demise of many retail and restaurant venues for example in last 2 years, it got me thinking on why this is, yes it is Internet, yes it is competition and yes it is rents and many other reasons, I know from all the thousands of Retail mystery visits Edge Insights has undertaken, it is also in many cases a lack of attention to customers. It is to my mind vital for all businesses, that are in hospitality or promote tourism, to have the best understanding of what ...Continue reading

15.01.2022 MOONLIT SANCTUARY Wildlife Conservation Park 550 Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, Pearcedale Outstanding venue to visit.... 15.01.2022 Lyn and I went to a talk at the Melbourne Convention centre last night, but more importantly, we had the time in the beautiful late afternoon in Melbournes South Wharf to have a light dinner and drinks at the BoatBuilders Yard next to Yarra, one of our favourite places in this part of Melbourne What I found fascinating, was the massive amounts of people coming past us on the Boulevard walkway next to where we were seating, going to or coming from the very large DFO shoppi...ng centre (Direct Factory outlets) I had a walk around while waiting for Lyn. Every high end brand I could think of, has sales there. All these people carrying bags from Armani, Calvin Kleine and Lacoste and so on, not just people now and again, but all the time was very busy people traffic, while we were there, Australian economy going down hill, well maybe not, By the way restaurant had no spare seats, while we were there, and all on a Monday night. Christmas is upon us, highly recommend this area of Melbourne. Car parking at DFO, or a short walk from Tram stop outside Crown and Exhibition centre South of Southern Cross South Wharf brings new meaning to the humble shed, with its restored heritage sheds now housing waterfront bars, restaurants and cafes, and the looming Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Laze on the lawns in front of the Convention Centre or make the most of a sunny afternoon with a deckchair and tipple at the Boatbuilders Yard. Wine and dine along South Wharf Promenade, or head over to DFO South Wharf for a bargain-hunting shopping spree. Take little explorers for a maritime adventure on tall ship Polly Woodside, permanently docked at South Wharf.

15.01.2022 Edge Insights is delighted to announce a new client. Edge Insights are so very proud to be assisting Ballarat Fine Art Gallery with their passion for Customer service. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the oldest and largest regional art gallery in Australia. Established in 1884 as the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery by the citizens of Ballarat, both the building and part of its collection is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and by the National Trust of Victoria.

15.01.2022 These are only my thoughts, so just take this as a conversation starter. With the horror of Coronavirus and destruction of tourism and hospitality to name just a part of the Australian industry shut down, including my own business in a hold pattern. What about we dream of the possibility of us all rethinking our overseas travel for at least the next 12 months and take our holidays within Australia. For example: If I wanted to travel overseas, I have to fly, or cruise. To ...fly in economy is now a very concerning thought with all passengers packed in, not to mention arrival at airport, waiting, immigration, customs and so on. Followed by the exit at other end of flight. Flying first class is the real answer if I need to fly for some comfort in having space on plane. (Most Australians cannot afford this.) To cruise, well besides all the obvious issues, now we are required I understand by all cruise companies to produce a medical document from my GP, and if I have health issues like, Cancer, heart disease, Diabetes (Not defined as to any particular type), Aids HIV, etc, How many Australians are now not eligible and most likely not to be allowed on cruise. SO Tourism Australia for example is inviting people to start dreaming and planning for their next Australian holiday with Live from Aus which is kicking off this Friday night at 7:30pm with the Network 10 special, The Love Australia Project, supported by Tourism Australia In 2018, Australian residents undertook 9,521,000 outbound international trips. 5,385,000 of those trips were for holidaying purposes, while 4,136,000 trips were for other purposes such as visiting relatives and business trips. Outbound international trips have nearly doubled in the past decade, increasing from 5,143,000 total trips in 2008. Average bed nights within Australia by Australians is 3.6 nights in 2018. This has in fact slightly decreased from 2009 whilst overseas travel has exploded. The average an Australian will spend overseas in bed nights is 22 days. Understanding all the reasons why this is the case, just think of the boost to our economy if just for one year after Covid 19, we all booked our holidays within Australia. Then further if we all booked our accommodation directly with hotels etc, instead of paying commission to an overseas based company. The Hotel gets to keep the Commission, say 15 to 20%. Think of the extra profit they could make, with this money going to Hotel improvements, maybe extra staff and so on. The flow ons are enormous though, if this were practiced where we all booked 3 weeks accommodation holiday within Australia. Equally all the attractions, Retail, Restaurants, wineries, and so on that would massively benefit and the extra employment gained from region where Australians booked their holiday. Garry See more

15.01.2022 There are many reasons why our company Edge Insights works and for so long. But one reason for sure is having the family of mystery visitors we work with to visit restaurants, attractions, accommodation venues, retail.town audits and so on all over Australia. Good people who have an interest in good customer service. For example for this last month of 2019 and coming up to festive season, we have remaining two terrific restaurants ideally located by the water in Fremantle WA, one restaurant in Byron Bay, and one restaurant in Wollongong NSW. Expenses are refunded for meals and drinks, and it gives our visitors an excuse to get out from home and enjoy what a venue can offer. These of course will be allocated in next few days, but if not a visitor with us, well send me by message some details including email address. Garry

13.01.2022 Good morning, to take our minds off the bushfires, and especially our childrens minds off the smoke billowing around, and scenes of the horrors of what a fire can do, why not if you can be in Pearcedale (South of Melbourne) area, book a child into Moonlit Sanctuary for a special day learning about Australian wildlife. JUST A THOUGHT SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN... We still have places available in our Keeper Club school holiday program. If you have wildlife fans aged 7-14 this is a great opportunity to learn more about our amazing Australian wildlife. The program offers environmental activities, animal encounters and learning about native animal care. A typical day includes interactions with cockatoos, reptiles and nocturnal animals that are usually off-limits to the public. Junior Keepers also help with feeding animals and animal enrichment activities. NOTE: Moonlit Sanctuary also run a special needs keeper club for children who love animals but are unable to attend our mainstream Keeper Club program due to specialised learning or physical needs. BOOK NOW 10am - 4pm, Monday-Thursday until 23rd January. Cost: $90.00 per day, or $250 for 3 days (pro-rata for additional days).

12.01.2022 As I always speak about, the obvious tool to assist in operating a succesful business, is the best in customer service. We at Edge Insights are proud to state we are now assisting a Car Hire company Avis/Budget franchisee with several venues, in having our visitors hire cars and report on experience with staff, with visitors from Edge Insights looking for great customer service. This is how management/owners/franchisees or franchisors truly know how their business is perform...ing, not only in tasks as per training but also upsell as per training. So proud of this next chapter for this wonderful company.
