19.01.2022 A couple of drills to work on balance, stability, ligament and tendon strength around the hips, knees and ankles. You can start with single leg jumps on the spot and progress towards something similar to this as you feel more comfortable. My ACL was completely torn around 15 years ago and due to a misdiagnosis I didn’t get it repaired. Drills like this have kept my knees in good health and helped me avoid getting an operation.... He was playing in the Wollongong competition, some of the best in Australia were playing in that competition at that time. The club had the opportunity to sign another hooker, who was an ex Australian player and they knocked him back as they said they already had a great hooker and player in Steve Annesley. Tips... aim to turn your punches over so your are landing predominantly with the first two knuckles. when throwing a jab protect your chin with the opposite hand either on the outside or in front of the chin. The shoulder of the arm that jabs will also help to protect the chin by keeping your chin down and behind the shoulder. when throwing the cross aim to keep the opposing hand on the chin. the shoulder of this punch will also protect the chin, of you keep the chin down and behind the shoulder. good footwork is behind nearly every good punch, so initially aim for balance and a push, step or a twist of the feet rather than leaning at the waist and loosing balance. . . . 10.01.2022 3 Tips when ya doin ya swings! 1. Ease into your swing. Use the hikers drag (displayed) to start your swing. It promotes better technique by easing you into your initial rep. You can also use the reverse to finish, so ease out after your last working rep.... 2. Push away from the ground. Keep your feet in contact with the ground at all times during your swing but make a point to move with intent by pushing hard through the ground at the bottom and also into your swing. 3. Soften your elbows. Don’t lock your elbows, especially at the top as this creates a lot of torque and pressure on your back. You are using a ton of not only back muscle with this exercise but also torso, hips and legs to stabilise and control each repetition. ... 2. 08.01.2022 Walking handstand tips. . . I am constantly learning and chipping away at my walking handstands and the more I think I know the less I do .... . I am constantly learning and have good days and bad ones but here are a few tips. . . 1. Practice - you need to practice your handstands to get get any improvement. I like to plan them into my training sessions like you would any other exercise. Allow time for progression and recovery, if you do them too often you can expect your wrists to get sore. . . 2. Use your legs - my legs counter balance my weight and provide me with a little momentum to get going. . . 3. Spread the weight - don’t just push through the heel of hour palm, make sure you spread the weight through your whole palm and fingers, feel the ground. . . Push through the earth - I feel strong when I push through the earth. So when you spread the weight evenly throughout your hands, push through the ground and drive away. These were 10 meter repeats, with a focus on power from start to finish. I completed 10 in total, walk back recovery and worked at an intensity of effort that felt manageable without pulling an old calf or hamstring . . Some tips if you have not sprinted since high school - warm up thoroughly - start with 20 - 40 meter efforts at an easier intensity, so don’t sprint hard on your first 4 sessions back. Give your body time to adapt - rolling or a flying start (walking or light jog into the sprint) can also work - focus on drills that will improve your technique and running efficiency - you can aim to initially replicate a similar high intensity effort on a stationary bike over a 10 - 20 second period. Athletes need to eat different to the general public and someone gaining muscle needs to eat different to someone trying to shed KG, but some basic tips we can all use are; 1. Plan and prepare a shopping list. Seems simple but if you have the right food available you will generally make better choices. ... 2. Plan and prepare a few meals for the next couple of days ahead. Again keep it simple to start with - a mixture of vegetables - variety of protein. Fish, chicken, meat and eggs. - healthy fat, avocado, nuts or if you are eating fish go for a quality wild caught salmon. - carbs. You don’t have to eliminate carbs to be healthy just make better choices and keep your serving size to a smaller portion. 3. Plan your free meals, notice I didn’t say cheat! My free day is Sunday and I eat mostly what I like after a 16 hour fast from the night before (the fasting is for health purposes not weight loss) but you have to find what works for you. Then if you plan those free meals into your week you are not cheating. 06.01.2022 Contrast training is designed to improve the athletes rate of force development. When it comes to boxing and boxers using weights it has been frowned upon for a very long time by coaches and I have seen plenty of world class fighters who can’t squat or bench press but punch very hard. Not saying weights are bad for boxers, I love strength training!! But I think all fighters would like to improve their force, power and speed.... I really like this drill for fighters, using a resistance band around the body for added resistance when throwing punches. The band needs to provide you with a fair amount a pressure but you should still be able to throw all your punches. Have a set period of 20 - 30 seconds shadow boxing with the band, you then drop the band and increase your work rate, force, power and speed and shadow box for another 20 - 30 seconds. Repeat this in 3 minute blocks for 2-3 rounds at different stages of your training program, do not do it all the time I feel like this drill takes the principles of contrast training and allows you to apply them in a specific way to a boxers training program. . . . . . #edgeperformance #boxing #training #fightconditioning #strength #power #speed See more

Inchworms x 4 Externals with band or DB x 12 Groiners x 4 each side Side plank x 15 sec each side McGill sit up x 10 sec each leg X 2 sets . . EMOM x 12min - every minute on the minute do an exercise in the following order. Add enough weight to complete all reps but to challenge you. . . A1. Back squats x 5 A2. Bench press x 5 A3. Chin / pull up x 4 - tempo 1131 X 12min For the last 2min, lighten the load and aim for all three exercises in 1min blocks. So in 1min you must do: A1. Squats x 5 A2. Bench x 5 A3. Chin/ pull ups x 4 . . 14 minutes done . . Rest 1.30 . . 14min AMRAP- complete as many rounds as possible in 14min . . 1. Boxing x 60sec - freestyle combos 2. Row x 250m 3. Sprawls x 10 4. Skipping x 100 rotations . . Cool down Slow that breathing down initially, in through your nose, deep into your belly and out through your mouth. 03.01.2022 Walking handstand tips. . . I am constantly learning and chipping away at my walking handstands and the more I think I know the less I do .... . I am constantly learning and have good days and bad ones but here are a few tips. . . 1. Practice - you need to practice your handstands to get get any improvement. I like to plan them into my training sessions like you would any other exercise. Allow time for progression and recovery, if you do them too often you can expect your wrists to get sore. . . 2. Use your legs - my legs counter balance my weight and provide me with a little momentum to get going. . . 3. Spread the weight - don’t just push through the heel of hour palm, make sure you spread the weight through your whole palm and fingers, feel the ground. . . Push through the earth - I feel strong when I push through the earth. So when you spread the weight evenly throughout your hands, push through the ground and drive away.
