24.01.2022 The delicious Hybrid Musk, Autumn Delight, heralding cooler mornings and soft tones of Autumn in the heritage rose gardens. #autumndelight #hybridmusk #autumninthegarden #heritagerosegarden #edgeworthlley
23.01.2022 Just had to share her this morning!
23.01.2022 Spring in the hinterland is off to a stunning start with Spirea in full bloom. #hinterlandgarden #springbloom #spirea #scentedpetals
23.01.2022 One of my favourite Tea roses .. generous blooms on a large, sprawling shrubby rose. Wonderful.
21.01.2022 Did I mention that some of our roses smell of 'vanilla'? The delicious white Banksian rose, R. banksiae alba plena, is just starting her annual show. Not only does she look wonderful, you can sniff her fragrance from metres away! #antiqueroses #heritageroses #scentedroses #springshow #countrygarden
21.01.2022 Two stalwarts of the heritage rose gardens .. The lusciously scented, deep pink Bourbon, Madame Isaac Pereire (1881) & the pale pink, sweetly scented Climber, New Dawn (1930). Both flower generously through out the year. Wherever I garden next, these will always be included. #gardentreasures #heirloomroses #edgeworthlley #countryrosegarden
20.01.2022 Can it really be the last day of Winter? It seems like we've had a very mild season overall. Fortunately there've been some rather mild frosts; just enough to break the pest cycle. The heritage roses are noticing that Spring is on the horizon and coming into bloom! Here's hoping for the predicted rain in Spring! #countrygarden #heritageroses #botanicalblends #scentedpetals #botanicalblends
20.01.2022 Now that the last of Rosa Laevigata blooms have been blown away by the storms, it's time for a well deserved serving of cow manure and a jolly good haircut! Otherwise, she'll take over the world!! Until next Spring! #rosalaevigata #cherokeerose #springblooms #countrygardenroses
19.01.2022 On my early morning walks in the heritage rose gardens, it’s a joy to see which roses are budding up for another bloom explosion. Here is the elegant bud of Tea rose, Safrano about to unfold and release her fruit-scented fragrance. Those petal scrolls are beautifully formed, don’t you agree!? #safrano #tearose #heritagerose #scentedpetals #edgeworthlley #growingbeauty #cultivatinghope #seedingjoy #harvestingthankfulness
19.01.2022 We’re just a teeny bit excited. The story of our garden has made it into the October edition of Country Style magazine! Love that real stories feature in this beautiful magazine. Thankyou #countrystylemagazine. #countrygarden #powerofflowers #heritageroses #scentedpetals #apothecaryblends #signaturebotanicals
18.01.2022 So grateful for light Spring showers with more predicted. Just perfect as the heritage roses come into bloom! #gardeninglife #countrygardenroses #heritageroses #scentedpetals #apothecarypetals #botanicalblends #nopesticides
15.01.2022 Bon Silene, Tea rose (1835). I think of this rose as the Raggedy-Anne of the heritage roses in our garden. Her rather dishevelled appearance has a certain charm, but her elegant buds are lovely (note the 2 garden assistants in the background,). She always makes me smile! #bonsilene #tearose #heritageroses #countrygarden #gardenassistants #edgeworthlley
15.01.2022 These gorgeous blooms are destined for our #scentedpetals range. Did you know we supply #apothecarypetals and #botanicalblends gathered from our #heritageroses in our #countrygarden. And we NEVER use pesticides or nasty chemicals in the #heritagerosegardens.
15.01.2022 These two are never far away. Always investigating new smells, and of course, 'helping' where they can! It's good to know they're as enthusiastic about 'gardening' as I am! Oh, and the gorgeous Tea rose in the foreground is Mrs B R Cant! She's destined for our botanical blends. #gardenassistants #cattledogs #hinterlandgarden #countrygarden #millie #mimmi #heritageroses #scentedpetals #apothecarypetals #signaturebotanicals
15.01.2022 Sometimes you've just got to sit back, enjoy the view .. and smell the roses! And while all the tasks of gardening can be a little overwhelming, it is worthwhile to realise just how far we've come; from a bare paddock to flowers, roses, herbs, bees and lots of native birds! #heritageroses #countryrosegarden #stopandsmelltheroses #scentedpetals #apothecarypetals #botanicalblends #signaturebotanicals #nopesticides #noplastics
13.01.2022 After the storms all is quiet once again in the heritage rose gardens .. and Devoniensis is blooming as if nothing happened! #heritageroses #tearoses #devoniensis #afterthestorm #countrygarden
12.01.2022 Not all roses smell like 'roses'. Some have a hint of spice, others have a more 'typical' rose scent, others have a dry 'tea' fragrance, while others smell of ripe peaches and even lemons! So there's quite a range of scent among the heritage roses, but that all adds to the deliciousness of our #scentedpetals range. #apothecarypetals #botanicalblends #signaturebotanicals #antiqueroses #heritageroses #countryrosegarden #nopesticides #noplastics
11.01.2022 When we first started to carve a garden out of the paddock, it looked like this. Now 6 years on, despite extreme drought and water shortages, there are heritage roses flourishing, with blooms and fragrance eclipsing the bare, barren paddock. There is so much joy in garden-making and even the occasional disappointment can't take away from the delight a gardener gets in seeing a rare treasure thrive! #keepongardening #countrygarden #heirloomroses #heritageroses #gardenalchemy #fortheloveofgardening
11.01.2022 Madame Lambard, Tea rose (1877), after lovely Spring showers. She was sold to me as Freiherr von Marschall and I also wanted to find Madame Lambard to add to my collection of Tea roses. Finally I realised I already had her under her synonym, Freiherr v M. Thank goodness for the Australian researchers who wrote the very worthy Tea roses for warm climates book. This is my 'go to' book for all things heritage Tea roses, and a fascinating read as well! #tearoses #australianheritageroses
11.01.2022 Sweetly scented Heritage in all her pinkness! Every morning there’s another rose coming into bloom! #englishrose #heirloomroses #scentedroses #springroses #nopesticides #apothecaryblends #gardenalchemy #signaturebotanicals
08.01.2022 I haven’t always loved classic roses. I prefer old ‘untidy’ roses that scramble & ramble, blooming in great fragrant trusses rather than single, stiff stems. Yet after more rain than we’ve had in ages, Blossomtime (daughter of New Dawn) & Blue Moon are still lovely despite a little rain damage. And both have good fragrance too! #nostalgiaroses #heirloomroses #heritageroses #scentedpetals #growingbeauty
08.01.2022 Autumn tones of Buff Beauty, one of the later Hybrid Musks bred by Bentall, 1939. This plant is precious as it’s a cutting grown from the original rose purchased (circa 1980s) at Rumsey’s heritage rose nursery in Dural. I have their original rose catalogue with beautiful descriptions by Heather. A precious document describing many of the old roses they reintroduced into Australia. Little did I realise what a treasure trove I had stumbled across in the early years of my gardening adventures! #gardentreasures #alittlepieceofhistory #rumseysroses #gardenstories #buffbeauty #hybridmusk #edgeworthlley #heritageroses
08.01.2022 After some light showers, all the signs of Spring are here .. bees foraging, spring blossoms of flowering quince, and lots of new rose buds. Bliss! #countrygarden #beehaven #springishere #heritageroses #heirloomflowers #nopesticides #scentedpetals #apothecarypetals #botanicalblends
07.01.2022 Spring brings the loveliest surprises... Hybrid Perpetual, Gloire de Ducher in all her glory! She has the strongest sweet fragrance! #heritageroses #countrygardenroses
04.01.2022 Rambler, Veilchenblau, enjoying our warm Spring weather. Said to smell like violets, I think her fragrance has fruit and spice notes. Love how her bright purple face fades to an elegant lilac! #heritageroses #scentedroses #countryroses #veilchenblau #rambler
04.01.2022 The lovely, ethereal China rose, Rosa Mutabilis, also known as Tipo Ideale. Her story & age are lost in the mists of time, but thought to be an old cultivar from Chinese gardens, rather than a species rose. What a joy to grow her in my humble Australian garden where there are no native species of Rosa. #gardentreasure #oldroses #heritageroses #gardenhistory #edgeworthlley #rosamutabilis #tipoideale
04.01.2022 The last of the white Banksia rose (Banksia alba plena) is fading now after her annual bloom. A once a year spectacular show that we look forward to each year. And you can swell this sweet scent with its hint of violets from across the heritage rose gardens! We have 3 well established shrubs that are growing quite enormous! Fortunately, she is thornless .. and the fire-tail finches use the enormous rose shrubs to hide away from predators. A very useful rose in the gardens! #banksiarose #albaplena #springblooms #countrygardenroses #heritageroses
02.01.2022 The gorgeous Duchesse de Brabant, known locally as The Montville rose. Pink petals full of fragrance and flowers almost all year.
