24.01.2022 Steps in our spring (and spring in our steps!) Shifting from season to season SATURDAY SHOP OPENING AGAIN, Starting Saturday 3rd of October, 9AM-2PM Seasonal. Organic. Local. Mixed Fruit & Veggies Boxes from farms to families. ...Continue reading

23.01.2022 This week, 4 years ago, we packed our first mixed box of veggies. Four. Years. How time flies when you're having fun?! Our first day four years ago, we were making up boxes for 15 families. (feeling hopeful, but nervous) Over the first 6 weeks we delivered 90 boxes (and were feeling very proud) It took 9 weeks to deliver 400 boxes (amazed), and it took... 6 months to get to 1000 (humbled). Jump to July 2020, and in the last 5 weeks alone, we have delivered over 1000 boxes. 200+ homes a week in our community are getting a regular mixed seasonal box! We pack in 1 day what we used to deliver in 1 week, and that wasn't really that long ago. We couldn’t have done it without you (all). --- Read our latest Four Year Young newsletter here; https://tinyletter.com/edigrocer/letters/four-years-young

23.01.2022 Dale picked up the tomatoes (some of the last of the season!) for tomorrow's Passata Making workshop. Can probably squeeze (pun intended) a couple more tickets in thanks to a generous harvest, so if you are keen click through and we'll see you tomorrow (SAT 20/3 @ 3pm) :) https://edigrocer.square.site/product/makepassata/640

23.01.2022 Excited that we can now share the winter produce with you all on Saturdays 9AM-2PM. Box getters and Saturday shoppers all rejoice.. and a big shout out to the farmers who farm all year long. #rainhailorshine #seasoninseasonout #shortestdayslongestnights . Just a few on show here from @mossywillowfarm, Cafresco, @thrivingfoodsfarm, @gippsland_mushrooms

17.01.2022 "This Day in May we are celebrating all the workers in our local food system (and beyond!) who keep us all fed each day, week, season and year. The farmers, seeders, sowers, weeders and the pickers, the packers, the adminners, and thinkers, and everyone in the work of growing and sharing food. Rain, hail or sun shining, we depend on their labour. Now more than ever, we thank you. And boy did we have some rain and wind the last few days! They were all working with it!"... https://tinyletter.com//send-a-may-day-message-of-thanks-t

16.01.2022 9/4/2020 The hard truth is we are a little overwhelmed. (Ha. a "little") I know we are not alone in that. Each week is 'our biggest number of boxes yet', which surely any business is stoked about right? But as you know we are not your average business... We are happy to do this wholesome work, but we are also feeling the weight of responsibility of feeding ~500 people a week now, pretty much all within 5km of our shop. Our community. We used to catch up with so many of you... each week in the shop... that is now closed. It's hard waving through windows, and it's hard not being able to work as a whole team and high five the wins while we adapt and implement new things every day. Then re-learn it all, and invent and adapt for the next day. They are big days, and there is no handbook for any of it... just a small but amazing, creative and resilient team making it up as we go along. Don't get us wrong, at the end and beginning of each day, we are so thankful to be friends with the folks who feed us, to still have a 'commute' across our beautiful Mornington Peninsula and Koo Wee Rup, and endlessly grateful for the many happy homes who support us each and every week in this journey towards a fairer food system. We have migrated most of our 'weekly shop regulars' to weekly box deliveries, and shuffled our days, thanked our farmers and systems to meet the huge demand from new names. We are up to just shy of 100 people on our waiting list, and are cooking up a plan (so thanks for your patience.) The long and short of it is this is a marathon, not a sprint. We're so proud of you all for adapting to this brave new world overnight, and especially thankful to the team behind the scenes here who are all dealing with a new reality at home, and at work. And thanks for all the beautiful and kind words (and drawings) of encouragement. They truely are helping us get through! Have a lovely long weekend at home. What kind of fun things have you dreamed up? We'd love to hear about the wins in your world too!

14.01.2022 We have made the difficult choice to close the shop on Saturdays, again. During this Stage 4 lock-down, while we are an essential service, we believe that the most responsible way to look after ourselves, our farmers and our community is to only provide contactless deliveries. The vegetables will keep growing, but only if they are looked after. So in turn, we must look after those who grow them....Continue reading

14.01.2022 It’s not every week we get to help out with a young farm's first harvest. We have watched Jay and Kim grow (pun intended) as they trained & worked alongside other great growers @mikey_and_kez , to then take the brave leap and set up their own little farm @intotherootsfarm . Located in beautiful (hilly) Bena, just into Gippsland, near Korumburra. We have sat with them, zoomed with them, and they have packed and ate with us to better work together, planning out what is in...volved from getting something from seed to harvest, from farm to families (to food!). Last week's harvest was: - 100 Bok Choy - 155 Bunches of Kale - 155 Radish - A bit of Salad Mix & Herbs too! From little things, big things grow. This is the best kind of collaboration for us (and arguably the planet). Working closely in step to meet the needs of our local families, as well as the security in the harvest for young growers. Time we think well spent, and with the average age of a farmer in Australia being 58, we will need many more young grower partnerships. And soon. Any young growers on Instagram out there? Feel free to get in touch! Fun fact: Jay (the farmer) and Jono and Dale (from Edigrocer) ALL went to @pattersonriversc in Carrum! What a coincidence. That’s what you call Home Grown! Now we have to work out how to get farming onto the curriculum...

12.01.2022 " Every day is Women's Day in the world of food and farming. We are so lucky to be led by them in our work everyday. Many talented women seed, grow, pick and process all our fruit & veggies, and then our own familiar faces pick up, pack and deliver to our hungry families every week. 90%+ of our box signups and shop visitors are women. Our world is fed & sustained by the work of countless woman for which we are eternally grateful. Thanks ladies!" Our words from last year, still as relevant as ever! 06.01.2022 "G’day lovely extended veggie family, time to explain what we we have been planning and preparing in aid of trying to #flattenthecurve and deal with COVID-19. From this week we will be doing box deliveries only. That means no Wednesday or Saturday market days, or any retail hours at all. Indefinitely.... Because it is the responsible thing to do. For you, our families, and our farmers. The key info is at the bottom of this email if you just need the facts Going forward we will challenge ourselves to reach as many households and families as we can with our famous weekly seasonal mixed box program. Next week, it is looking like 168 boxes, which are hundreds of mouths we are responsible for feeding no pressure!" https://tinyletter.com//starting-this-week-we-are-deliveri

02.01.2022 We love BBQs at this time of year but Jono and Jessie we’re feeling a little nervous this summer because we are no longer eating animals. Corn, Eggplant and Zucchini grilled on the BBQ are a favourite for us anyway, but while we waited for the season to bring us these beauties we had a go at vegan burgers, with the help of the bulk whole food side of the shop it has been a protein-full summer! Here some burgers tried (some with recipes, others inspired by recipes, but ...most inspired by excess produce, that's how we roll) - Mushroom (oysters and cups) and walnuts - Carrot, Chickpea and Lentils - Beetroot, Seeds & Nuts, and a bit of homemade pesto - Spring onion pancakes, we eat this on it's own with vegan mayo, but would go nicely with an asian inspired slaw - A super hearty sweet potato and beetroot loaded with seeds and grains (sunflower, mung and lentils) See more

01.01.2022 Farms to families, to food. Last Wednesday we pushed ourselves to pick, pack and deliver 150 boxes in one day. (Thanks Team Edi!) But happy to be back to a 'normal' 80-boxes-a-day this week :p wasn't so long ago that was our total for the week... Or just a dream.
