22.01.2022 CAMPERS TOLD TO STAY HOME Are you still seeing people camping along the River Murray? New measures are now in place ahead of the typically busy Easte...r long weekend. As of Friday all South Australian national park campgrounds and accommodation have been closed and the department advises that refunds will be made to those with existing bookings. It says that South Australias national parks remain open to locals to visit provided physical distancing measures are followed. Berri Barmera mayor Peter Hunt said everyone should be cancelling any non-essential travel plans. "Naturally Easters always a great time here in the Riverland, especially around Berri and Barmera with Lake Bonney," Mr Hunt said. "During these trying times, there would have to be something wrong if you really thought you were going to go travelling." While the river may appeal as a place to isolate, anyone coming to the area would still impact the local community by using local services and stores. "If theyre coming from a distance, theyve got to travel, theyve got to stop to go to the toilets, and perhaps fuel," Mr Hunt said. Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone said people should follow government advice and avoid any non-essential travel. "I ask people contemplating travel to reconsider and stay at home and unfortunately that means asking visitors to postpone their travel to our region," he said.

18.01.2022 Dear Delegates, Secretaries and Presidents As a result Covid-19 outbreak in SA the 4WDSA executive has decided that it is appropriate to delay the AGM until a l...ater date. 15.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this Catherine McCann - I think it helps explain things in a way we can all understand. This was posted by someone who works in pathology. T...hought it explained things well. I was asked today what is the difference between a influenza and COVID19 Anyway here is the info to help you all Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who dont understand. It has to do with RNA sequencing...i.e. genetics. Seasonal flu is an all human virus. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year. You get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot. Novel viruses come from animals. The WHO tracks novel viruses in animals (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1, birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once one of these animal viruses mutates and starts to transfer from animals to humans...then its a problem. Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity. The RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isnt human, and the human immune system doesnt recognize it, so we cant fight it off. Now...sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human. For years its only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human. Once that happens, we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly, its going to be. H1N1 was deadly, but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. Its RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too. Fast forward. Now, here comes this Coronavirus. It existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long. But one day, at an animal market in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person. But here is the scary part. In just TWO WEEKS, it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, slippery. This Coronavirus, not being in any form a human virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity), took off like a rocket. And this was because humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it. And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs. Thats why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1, or any other type of influenza...this one is slippery AF. And its a lung eater. And, its already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain S and strain L...which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine. We really have no tools in our shed with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu. Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him till the Black Plague passed (honestly, I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation. And let me end by saying...right now its hitting older folks harder...but this genome is so slippery, if it mutates again (and it will), who is to say what it will do next. !!!!flattenthecurve. Stay home folks. And share this to those that just are not catching on." Credit to Estrelita Estrella

11.01.2022 Four Wheel Drive Victoria have been made aware of a conservation program run by Parks Victoria in Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park and Black Range State Park... between March and October 2021. Heritage listed for its biodiversity and cultural values, the Grampians landscape is home to more than 800 indigenous plant species, a wide range of wildlife and the majority of Aboriginal rock art sites in south-east Australia. To help protect this unique landscape, Parks Victoria regularly undertakes conservation programs to control invasive animals, including feral goats. On a few days each month from 29 March until late October, a crew of qualified and experienced volunteer shooters will target these pest animals in remote sections of the parks. During the operation, access to some sections of the parks will be temporarily restricted and people may be able to hear gunshots. Key visitor areas will not be affected. A document showing the restricted areas and dates is attached. Park restrictions will be clearly signposted and managed, with information also available for visitors from the Parks Victoria office in Halls Gap, the Parks Victoria website, and by calling 13 19 63.

08.01.2022 Every one that owns a small business like ours is going to feel the wrath of this virus. We all know the big chain stores and the like can afford if they dont ...have as many customers as normal. But think about the butcher, baker and green grocer that are owned by families around the corner. These guys all buy their products from South Australian farmers that have done it tough with the droughts and fires. Support South Australian businesses to keep our economy booming whether its your meat, a loaf of bread, some fruit and veg, a cup of coffee from the independent cafe, a pizza from the pizza bar on the corner, a new hair cut at the local salon or a service and repairs from the local mechanic. Every dollar you spend at these small places does help. We appreciate all our customers that are supporting us, and I know the local businesses will be appreciative too. Help spread the word of locally owned businesses that you support below
