24.01.2022 A day in the woolshed side sampling to test for micron. The sheep seem to be in quite good condition considering the drought.
23.01.2022 It’s not always about sheep and cattle. Sunday morning before heading off to feed sheep Mark decided to have a go at video photography. I told him the pup climbs out of its cage, clever little dude.
22.01.2022 Still plenty of wet here, such an incredible contrast to last year at this time.
22.01.2022 Guyra Show. Double win Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. Mark is a happy fellow today and I must confess to having a pretty broad smile on my dial in this photo. Wool growers are resilient people. Even after/ during an extended , very costly drought there has been interest enough to select and present a fleece for competition. Our thanks must go to every grower in the region who has sacrificed their time and effort to bring their fleeces to the show.... Ps. I won a garden table and chairs so come visit one day and have scones and tea with us. See more
22.01.2022 Had to drive to river to start the pump, no feed on the back of truck but those silly sheep don’t know that. Took me ages to get home again. They were circling.
21.01.2022 I do love a contrast picture to show where you’ve been but please God don’t take us back to that ever again.
21.01.2022 Vid 2 after the lambs get through the gate into the oats.
17.01.2022 And here they are enjoying those nuts.
15.01.2022 Armidale Show Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Fleeces. Mark is viewing the display with Robert Ryan, managing director of Schute Bell, our wool agent. Robert is also the president of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW ( Sydney Royal Easter Show) . He was in Armidale to officially open the Armidale Show. Robert said he was very impressed how well the wool had displayed despite being grown during the toughest drought recorded in the New England Region.
15.01.2022 Armidale Showground hosted the truckers from the Burrumbuttock hay runners on Sunday evening with some entertainment, and a Fundraiser BBQ. Some people would have been put off by the persistent rain but we loved it. Mark and some buddies spent the evening yarning at the bar watching the rains. I used my umbrella for the first time in years. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this occasion happen.
15.01.2022 Our heartfelt thanks go to the Burrumbuttock hay runners (BHR )volunteer truckers who gave up their time and likely income to deliver hay to our drought stricken region. This truck and its crew ( Ben, Matt and Mikayla) has travelled all the way from Ballarat. We thank them for their hard work and sacrifice on our behalf. We were lucky enough to receive seven of these hay bales. Though we have had rain in beautiful amounts since Christmas there still hasn’t been enough grass growth to replace the need for fodder supplements so this hay is very much appreciated. The paddocks are looking fresh and green from a distance but would not withstand grazing yet. The logistics/ dynamics/ organisation required to deliver on farm to over seven hundred applicants who were in the ballot is phenomenal. THANKS AGAIN BHR.
14.01.2022 Hoping there’s some rain to be had in these clouds. The cattle are waiting.
14.01.2022 For the lambs the oat paddock gate is opened and they get about an hour to graze then they are rounded up and out. You may not believe this but the dry yellow looking rubble is the oat paddock, there are two videos to see. Watch how quickly they race onto the stubble.
13.01.2022 A day in the woolshed taking side samples for micron testing.
12.01.2022 Another day, another months income given back to the cows but it’s keeping them alive and keeping Mark going.
11.01.2022 Happy to see this news today. Well done Mark.
09.01.2022 Another day feeding. Tinge of green after last weeks rain. Hope there’s more to come or we’ll lose the growth. These guys are being fed barley grown in WA, came by ship to Brisbane then trucked to Armidale . 25 tonnes into the silo, lasts about 7 weeks .
09.01.2022 Great Christmas present this year. Definitely looking green and lush.
07.01.2022 Filling the feed bin with nuts for the cattle. These nuts are from Guyra. About 12 tonnes in the silo will last 3-4 weeks.
05.01.2022 Oh, look.... I found the source of the crop circles. The aliens are mourning the loss of their leader. The rest of them won’t last long either sadly.
05.01.2022 March 2020 and it’s hard to tell we were so devastated by dry brown dirt only 2 -3 months ago. Is this Mark searching for his stock?
04.01.2022 Hi friends, we have had some much needed rains. The grass is short but very green and lush, it looks great. Mark is still feeding stock while the paddocks try to recover so he’s still really busy. Today the hay runners come to Armidale. A convoy of 180 trucks. What legends Australian truckers are. We are waiting to see if the ballot is kind to us and we might get some hay.
01.01.2022 These bulls are 15 months old. Feeding them the same nuts but care is needed because they shove and push and can knock you over before the nuts make it into the trough but I’m BRAVE and I can do it.
01.01.2022 Alien activity crop circles????
