20.01.2022 Visiting a Yorke Peninsula beach these school holidays? Have fun in the surf and sand, but please look out for hooded plovers, their eggs and even their chick...s. These threatened shorebirds, which lay their eggs on the sand, are currently nesting so they are particularly vulnerable in the holidays when beach traffic increases. Some of the eggs are due to hatch during the school break so it's super important that we all take care on the beach. You can help by: Avoiding the dunes (hoodies lay their eggs above the high tide mark) Walking on the wet sand Keeping your dog on a lead . We have a free map available that outlines the whole route, available here bit.ly/3305rFy Plus, for serious walkers (or those w...ho love maps), we also have 10 detailed topographical maps available. They're $10 each or $90 for the whole set. The maps can be ordered over the phone by calling Yorke Peninsula Council on 8832 0000, and they'll be posted out via registered mail ($5 postage). They're also available over the counter at any of the Yorke Peninsula Council offices (Maitland, Minlaton, Yorketown).
