25.01.2022 NIGHT PENNANT REPORT TUESDAY 24th NOV 2020 Welcome Back bowlers to our 5th year competing in the SDELBA night pennant competition and what a great way to start the season off with both sides winning. After our practice match last week, we came prepared with Mozzie repellant, warm clothing, and a hunger for a win to start the season off. Our Division 3 side played Murrumbeena Park, who were one player short, so our favourite neighbour, Sally King, came along to help out, al...though I think she helped them out a little to well by putting down some great shotsand NO Murrumbeena Park you can’t have her. Alan, Glenys, Ant, Rod played a thriller of a game winning 8 ends with 5 multiples. On the second last end they were down by 1 shot, with great bowling by the team they got a 3 on the last end and won by 2 shots. Bobby, Jim, Shellie, Andrew T also played a close game with the scores level on the second last end, alas the opposition won the last end and won by a single shot. Peter, Diane, Kaye, Colin took 5 ends to get on the score board, but after that they zoomed ahead only dropping two ends by a single shot and a win on this rink by 8 shots. ALAN 15 - 13 BOBBY 14 - 15 PETER 15 - 7 EDITHVALE 44 MURRUMBEENA PARK 35 Our Division 4 side played Chadstone and with 2 brand new bowlers in the team they came away with a win by 3 shots. Andrew B, Marika, Elwyn, Danny won 7 of the 17 ends and had 3 multiples. At the 10th end they were in front, but the opposition chipped away winning 6 of the last 7 ends and a loss to this rink by 6 shots. Margaret, Stephen, Barb and Ian won 8 ends which included 2 multiples. They won the last 3 ends with a very handy 3 and a 2, but only went down by 4 shots. Ray, Helen, Neville, Janienne lead all night winning 11 ends with 7 multiples, a magic 5 and a sexy 6. This rink won by 13 shots and a win to this team overall by 3 shots. ANDREW 11 - 17 MARGARET 11 - 15 RAY 25 - 12 EDITHVALE 47 CHADSTONE 44 Well done to all players and best of luck for the season. Many thanks to Roger and Bridget for popping in to watch. Next week we play away, Div 3 at Brighton Beach and Div 4 at Beaumaris Diane Cameron - Editor

21.01.2022 Greens Closure Update, July 24th This week the Board has discussed our previous decision to close down temporarily, and have decided the following: We are aware that some clubs have opened up their greens for practice sessions, as there is the capacity to have up to 10 members practising at a time. As we have previously advised you, the City of Kingston requested that all of their facilities be closed down when Lockdown 2.0 commenced. In these days of ever increasing COVID-19 numbers, we have decided that a responsible course of action is to not have people down at the club, so as not to put our members at risk. We are scheduled to have our next Board Meeting on August 3, and we will advise you shortly after that date of any decisions or developments. Peter Woodbridge On behalf of the Board.

17.01.2022 NIGHT PENNANT REPORT TUESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2019 Tonight was our first away game with our Div 2 side playing at Glen Waverley and our Div 5 team playing at Dandy Club. With emails / texts to Team Players regarding going direct or car-pooling it felt like the first time when my children were heading off for their first school camp, making sure they all arrived safely and had everything they needed. It was all okay for the Div 2 side, because I was there, but Div 5 had Mar...garet Bourne looking after them. Div 2 ventured to Glen Waverley and some arrived before the opposition with the club all locked up. We quickly found our way to the greens had the necessary pit stop (I think that was just me) and the game got under way. It was another chilly night but we all rugged up well. Alan, Glenys, Diane and Pauline struggled early on contesting with strong cross breezes, short ends and an opposition skip with some great accurate bowling. On the 8th end, Edithvale got a 5, which had us within 3 shots. By the 15th end we were 1 shot down, but lost the last 2 ends to go down by 5 shots. Greg, John, Sally and Jim had a close game all night, with no more than 1 or 2 shots the difference. On the 16th end the scores were level on 11 all. This rink won the last end and the game by 2 shots. Bobby, Shellie, Kaye and Craig had an outstanding game on this rink from all players, winning 13 of the 17 ends played. There were 6 multiples consisting of a 5, two 4's and three 2's. The opposition just couldn't take hold of the game and I did see a few drives by our skip to win the end. Scores: Alan 12-17 Greg 13-11 Bobby 26-6 Edithvale 51 Glen Waverley 34 Div 5 were a little closer to home when they played at Dandy Club under cover. Unfortunately they didn't have a win but I was told that the score did not reflect on the bowls played by Edithvale. As this game wasn't televised I can only report on the score cards. Barb S, Peter S, Helen and Andrew T only won 8 ends with 1 multiple. They gave it their best and will forge on for next week. Andrew B, Barb C, Elwyn and Rod H had a different game shooting out to an 8 shot lead by the 6th end. The opposition then came powering home winning 3 of the last 4 ends with a 5 in the mix. Margaret, Marika, Rachel and Colin had a close game up till the 10thend. The opposition then surged ahead with 3 multiples with two 2's and a 4. Scores: Barb 9-23 Andrew 13-20 Margaret 8-18 Edithvale 30 Dandy Club 61 Well done to all players, let’s hope next week the weather is a little warmer. Both sides are playing at home. Diane Cameron Editor

14.01.2022 To all members. Please note the AGM that has been scheduled for April 5th 2020 has been postponed until a date to be announced later. Meanwhile, please stay safe everyone.

14.01.2022 Tuesday Night Pennant started this week with two teams from Edithvale playing in Div 5 and Div 2. Our first game was played at home against Moorabbin and Glen Eira/McKinnon. DIV 5 EDITHVALE 51 TO MOORABBIN 39 Rink 6 with Margaret, Marika, Rachel and Colin (16-13) had a tight game for the first five ends and then Edithvale got a 4 then a 5 on end 6/7 which gave them a little breathing room. The opposition won some vital ends but with only single digits and two 2’s, but... Edithvale hung on for a 3 shot victory. Andrew B, Barb C, Elwyn and Andrew T (22-14) had a cracker of a game winning 11 of the 17 ends played. There was 5 multiples with a ‘6’ in the mix. They won by 8 shots. Peter W, Ann, Helen, and Janienne (13-12) had a see-saw battle all night, but managed to hang in there with a one shot win. This team had Colin and Janienne playing their first game of pennant bowls for Edithvale and they were both *stars* on their rinks. DIV 2 EDITHVALE 38 TO GLEN EIRA/MCKINNON 53 This team had a huge jump from Div 4 to Div 2 and played against some quality players. It took two of our rinks a little time to get off the mark and get a score on the board. Greg, John, Jim and Peter S (15-17) started well and won 8 ends in total consisiting of 4 multiples. On the 15th end the scores were tied 15 all, but the opposition won the last 2 ends with two singles, which had Edithvale going down by 2 shots. Bobbie, Shellie, Sally and Craig (12-14) had the opposition win the first 5 ends and Edithvale won the next five ends. It seemed on this rink another see-saw battle, but unfortunately we ran out of ends and went down by 2 shots. Rink 1 had Alan , Glenys, Diane and Rod H (11-22) had the opposition get too far in front and we only managed to win 7 ends. Many times we had 2-3 shots in the head with the opposition skip taking the shot and winning the end. This rink went down by 11 shots. I know we all played under such chilly conditions, but we didn’t have the hail that was predicted. I saw many players ducking inside at times to warm up next to the heater or having a wee nip of whisky to warm the insides. With the games all finished just after 9.30pm many Edithvale and opposition players adjourn inside for a much needed cuppa or something stronger. Thanks to Barb for organising the supper and running the bar during the night and to Colin for providing the sweet biscuits. No game next week, due to the Vic Open so for extra practice why not put your name down for the Twilight bowls on Wednesday night (Its PJ night). Next game is Tuesday 26th November with Div 5 playing at Dandy Club and Div 2 at Glen Waverley. Selection will be out next week Thursday night. GO EDITHVALE! Diane Cameron Editor Thank you for this report Diane Cameron. We look forward to many more.

13.01.2022 Top team up by 3 at lunch. Good luck for the rest of the day.

13.01.2022 CLUB UPDATE NO.2 EDITHVALE BOWLS CLUB UPDATE ... Hello one and all. I hope this Update finds you all well and still coping with the period of self-isolation. As we had to postpone our AGM, and many of our members have been away from the Club let’s do a quick overview of the 2019/20 Pennant season. Congratulations to our Midweek, Saturday and Night Pennant teams for the season and results they achieved. MIDWEEK We had 4 teams compete and all 4 teams made the finals. Our 2nd, 3rd and 4th side didn’t make the Grand Final but our players gave it their best. Our top side made the Grand Final and played Noble Park at Glen Waverley on Thursday 19th March. Sadly there were ‘No Spectators’ allowed, so I will say our players went there with a strong determination to win and win they did, by 9 shots. The Premiership Flag will be collected when the self- isolating period is over. SATURDAY We also had 4 teams competing and our second side made finals. Sadly they didn’t make the Grand Final, but a valiant effort by all players. NIGHT We increased to 2 teams this season, but sadly we could not complete the season, with the last game and finals cancelled due to COVID-19. So, Division Winners and Runners-up were awarded to the Top 2 teams from each division as the ladder stood, meaning that our second side were Runners-up in Division 5. Membership Invoices for 2020/21 have been emailed, ‘snail’ mailed, collected from the club or hand delivered to our members. Thanks to those members who have already paid their membership. Originally, 30th April 2020 is the cut-off date for the $20 discount of your fee, but the Board has decided to extend the $20 discount date to 30th June 2020. If you have not received your membership renewal invoice please email or call me on the number below. OTHER ITEMS: A big WELCOME to new members who have recently joined the club. We are planning a ‘Welcome Afternoon Tea’ for later in the year. A big shout out to any members who are not well at the moment. We hope that you get better soon. Any welfare news, please call Jan Collins on 0450469388. Jan is scheduled to become our new Welfare Officer at the next AGM. Thanks to our maintenance crew for continuing to maintain the grounds and the Club. Please note that positions are still available on the Board, Bowling Committee and other committees. Any further news or updates from Bowls Vic will be put on Club website Diane Cameron Board Secretary 0414991915 No related posts.

12.01.2022 A message from Bowls Vic Bowls Vic is currently conducting a survey titled, Are you missing playing bowls during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are interested in completing the survey and you are 18 or over please go to:... www.bowlsvic.org.au//missing-playing-bowls-during-covid-19/ This should take about 10 minutes.

12.01.2022 NIGHT PENNANT REPORT TUESDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2019 Round 3 saw similar weather conditions to the past 2 weeks, strong breezes and chilly conditions. Tonights game was played at home and we welcomed teams from Murrumbeena Park and Bentleigh. Div 2 side played Murrumbeena Park and it was another tough/close game. Rink 3 with Alan, Glenys, Diane and Rod C (welcome back son) took 6 ends before they got a score on the card. The 2 ladies saw their bowls pushed out with strong gusts ...pushing across the green. On end 8 and 10 they got two multiples of a 4 & 3 which saw them within reach of the opposition but could only manage to win 2 more ends and went down by 11 shots. Rink 2 with Greg, John, Sally and Jim had a good win with good bowling by all. They won 11 of the 17 ends consisting of 5 multiples. Rink 1 with Bobby, Shellie, Kaye and Craig had a tight battle all night. With their last end to play their scores were all level on 15 all and the OVERALL scoreboard, Edithvale were down by 1 shot. With Edithvale holding 3 shots, the opposition skip had the last bowl and managed to draw onto the jack and win the end. This rink went down by a single shot and a loss to Edithvale by 2 shots Scores: Alan 10-21 Greg 17-7 Bobby 15-16 Edithvale 42 Murrumbeena Park 44 Div 5 side played Bentleigh and came away with a 12 shot victory. Fast finishing Andrew B, Barb C, Elwyn and Rod H won 11 of the 17 ends and had three 3's. Their opposition finally managed to score on the 7th end with a four, but this spurred on the Edithvale players to surge ahead. This rink won by 6 shots. Rink 5 with Margaret, Peter, Rachel and Colin had a close game with the lead changing often during the gaame, but the opposition scored a 6 on the 13th end giving them a 2 shot lead which they managed to hang onto by the 17th end. On rink 4 with Peter, Helen, Andrew and Janienne, I think they were having a whole lot of fun playing with some new bowlers who were being closely supervised by our skip Peter Woodbridge. Peter had to many times run (or manybe a little jog) down to the other end when measuring for shot or clarifying rules of the game. It became very serious when the umpire was called when it was a very close measure (Thanks Glenys). The game was sealed on the 15th end when Edi got a 6. This rink won by 8 shots and a win by the team Scores : Peter 20-12 Andrew 17-11 Margaret 17-19 Edithvale 54 Bentleigh 42 Thanks to Lynne for setting up the tables for supper and thanks to all for helping to put things away and help clean up. Well done to all players, and I'm saying this for the last time - lets hope next week the weather is a little warmer. Div 2 are playing at Bentleigh next week and Div 5 are at Cheltenham. Diane Cameron Editor

Our sides played against Bentleigh and Cheltenham Div 2 side ventured to Bentleigh to play on their carpet. UGH! There were a couple of highlights on the night with some great bowling shots by one and all, but not enough to come away with a win. Greg, John, peter S and Jim blasted out of the gates to take a steady lead, but on the 15th end they dropped a 5. They managed to stay ahead and win by 2 shots. Bobby, Shellie, Kaye and Craig struggled to get a score on the board and were down 0-19 on 11 end. They then had a great comeback winning 4 ends with one 4, two 3’s and a one but it wasn’t enough. This rink went down by 10 shots. Alan, Diane, Glenys and Rod C didn’t fair as well with shots in the head getting knocked out by the opposition. They managed to get a 5 on the 13th end, but the opposition got a 5 & 6 which saw this rink go down by 19 shots. Around 9.30pm we saw some impressive five works from Dendy Park. Scores: Greg 16-14 Bobby 11-21 Alan 11-30 Edithvale 38 Bentleigh 65 Div 5 played at Cheltenham and we came away with a 42 shot win. Yahoo!
