25.01.2022 Usually by now we would have just kicked off the season opening. Wed be getting into the swing of Winter and settling into the mountains for a few months of fu...n.. This season is different, for everyone. The Snow Season has been lucky enough to have been given the go ahead with strict rules in place to ensure everyone stays as safe and healthy as possible. How Howling Huskys will operate this season will be like never before. After a crippling 2020 weve had to come to a decision and that is that for the first time in 10years we will not be operating out of Mt Baw Baw during July. (We will be reassessing August closer to date) We were fortunate enough to not be living up in our little bush hut during the 2019/2020 East Gippsland bushfires which hit our property, again we were fortunate enough that our little bush hut was somehow spared but our kennels and pens for the dogs were not so lucky and burned down or got severely damaged. When Coronavirus hit we were no longer able to secure the finance we were hoping to get and in order weve had to move from the beautiful property wed been calling home and back to our beautiful little bush palace which is closer to Mt Hotham & Dinner Plain which is why well be basing ourselves from here, it saves us a lot of money and the dogs are happy to be home and altogether. We (and our crew who are all absolutely amazingly awesome individuals) have been working tirelessly to make sure the dogs are comfortable in their temporary pens until we can build them all new homes. This means well be rotating teams that will be in Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain so everyone gets a go. Well be running the two locations as one and it will be dependant on snow and conditions as to where we can operate out of (we should know a few days ahead to let you all know). We are have been in contact with DHHS regarding the 1.5m rule with social distancing and we are waiting to get the final tick of approval so our guides can stand on the back of the sled for your tour. We are hoping we get to kick off from the 23rd but we do need to hear from them before we can finalise what we have planned. The amount of physical and mental strain that us and our crew have taken on with this move/set up has been enormous. Moving in general is hard but moving and repairing burnt pens and setting up temporary pens for 86 dogs plus cleaning up fire effected areas of the property so us and the kids can walk safely around is next level of exhausting which is why weve been so quiet lately. We are now slowly getting back on our feet (dont want to jinx ourselves ) we are looking forward to the Winter that we can hopefully have and will update you all with when were allowed to give you all an experience you wont forget. If you havent heard from us we do apologise, kids/dogs and a surprise early start to Winter (we originally were planning for after July school holidays when all snow fields thought wed be opening) has been crazy but we are in the midst of contacting you all. Howling Huskys

25.01.2022 Is a three day 75cm dump Mother Nature’s way of enforcing "Stay at Home" directives? We'd like to remind everyone that Mt Baw Baw remains temporarily closed u...ntil September 13th. The Baw Baw National Park which includes Mushroom Rocks and Mt St Gwinear has also been closed by Parks Victoria. Stay home, stay safe and we will see you when the time is right. Visit mtbawbaw.com.au/covid-19 or the Parks Victoria website for more info. #mtbawbaw #almost80cm #australiansnow #visitbawbaw #visitgippsland

24.01.2022 From Friday, regional Victorians can enjoy this view. No entry fee but please register to visit - https://bit.ly/2Rzn6i0! #visitvictoria #staycovidsafe

23.01.2022 Snow, skiing and dingos. Thanks to all who came up for the first day of lifts spinning at Mt Baw Baw. P.S. If you had a lesson, check the Mt Baw Baw Snowsports page to see if you feature. View our COVID-safeoperating plan at mtbawbaw.com.au/covid-19

23.01.2022 What's the deal with snow chains? Snow chains are a legal requirement on all declared hazardous roads during the winter season. The South Face Road and St Gwine...ar road (as soon as you turn on to the gravel) are both declared hazardous roads by Vicroads. Wheel chains must be in your car, even if it's a 4x4, even if the sun is shining, even if you've grown up in Canada and were driving on snow before you could walk. Substantial fines apply for not carrying wheel chains and if you are in an accident, your insurance is void as your car is deemed unroadworthy. Now to the snow conditions. Sight seeing at Mt Baw Baw. No lifts and toboggan park is closed. Mt St Gwinear has no snow at the car park, but customers have reported enough for snow play further up the trail. Time for the snow dance please peeps

23.01.2022 Victorian resorts will be accepting pre booked visitors over winter to control numbers inline with govt policy. There will be a requirement to sign on and sign ...off the mountain to aid contract tracing. We are looking to minimise customer interaction and will have a one way traffic system in place as well as increased cleaning protocols. We will also be limited to 9 customers instore and are looking to temporarily reopen the old bakery /skihire for chains and toboggans as that allows 7 more customers and reduces the risk to customers, our staff, and ourselves. We ask now that only those who require equipment enter the shop i.e leave someone in the car with the kids if they dont need to be in the shop. Thank you all in advance for continued support and patience. We are going to do our very best to ensure we are all safe and get to enjoy winter. We also strongly encourage people to download the Covidsafe app. Still no word what social distancing will look like for areas such as St Gwinear

22.01.2022 We are open and ready for visitors, and what a nice morning to open for the season. There is no need to book any equipment, just walk in and hire. We have our ...COVID plan in action, all of our equipment is for hire, with strict cleaning processes for our clothing, boots and helmets. Please respect our social distancing procedures when entering the store, we have ample hand disinfectant stations around the store. We look forward to seeing you soon. See more

22.01.2022 We're open 7 days a week to explore with ski lifts, lessons & tobogganing on weekends.

Bookings essential St Gwinear should has 5cm at the car park. Same deal with chains. Limited capacity applies and remember day use area is closed so be self sufficient. Hot food and drinks available from @StG"Foodvan Due to restrictions within our shop and to help as many as we can, please bring your own clothing if possible as restrictions will reduce our ability to help everyone and may see delays See more

19.01.2022 Hi all, as winter is now over & Summer is quickly approaching we should all read & retain this important information. Remember that snakes are protected wildlife & therefore it is illegal to kill them. So we need to respect their environment. Always make sure you have the necessary bandages etc with you when bush walking. However if you or any member of your group should be bitten please follow the steps as listed in this post. Stay safe everyone & enjoy our beautiful Alpine environment as well as any local parks, etc that you may visit.
