John McBrides’ lovely shambolic Guardian reading, mass of vege laden goodness, comfort dinner photo. ... so you can both get a free main meal whenever you like thanks to everyone who sent a photo- keep it up please folks, we love it!
21.01.2022 Hello lovely Edstars! (This is what I have decided to collectively call all of Ed’s Kitchen fans! :)) I hope everyone had a good week? The Covid numbers keep heading in the right direction, it was beautiful weather - It has to be getting better - right? ... In celebration and hope of eased restrictions next Sunday, we are putting on an end of stage 4 special menu for us all this Saturday. Ed loves a bit of cognac in his cooking and the crab bisque is perfect for it. It’s a lot of work, but well worth the effort - rich and sublime! I can’t wait! The beef Wellington will be an eye fillet wrapped in house made pate, mushrooms and puff pastry. Served as a thick slice with all the trimmings, this really takes me back to fabulous dinner parties at my parents house! The vegetarian version will be just as delicious with chestnuts, Swiss browns and porcini mushrooms for a beautiful flavour. I’m very excited about this menu and I certainly wont be giving up my serve this week to late comers - So please get your order in by 8am Friday morning or I can’t guarantee availability. Before Saturday though, the temperature will plummet again and we can all cosy up with some of our comfort favourites. Trust me when I say they are all delicious! I think they are all pretty self explanatory, except maybe the Zuccutto Di Arancia on Friday night. This magnificent dessert is based on savoirdi biscuits soaked in vin cotto, moulded and filled with orange and chocolate studded sweet ricotta. Delicious! 16.01.2022 Happy Sunday Everyone! If you live within a 5 km radius of Kew in Melbourne, why not come and get some delicious take away food from us to make this lockdown a little more bearable? I hope you all had a good week - all things considered?... Ed and I have managed to stay married while living together and him also having me in his kitchen - so all good here As mentioned earlier, Ed is going off to work on Wentworth for a few days, so he is only doing service from the truck on THURSDAY and Saturday this week. - NO Wednesday or Friday. By request, we are going to offer Chicken or Eggplant Parmigiana this Thursday. Crumbed and topped with a rich tomato sauce, a slice of ham and fresh mozzarella cheese. The default order for the Chicken Parma will be breast meat, but I personally prefer thigh - it’s more unctuous in my opinion. So if you would like this also, dont forget to request it in your email along with your pick up time between 5-7 pm. The vegetarian option of Eggplant will be a thick slice of crumbed eggplant topped with the sauce and cheese. Both will be delicious I’m sure! Saturday’s main, will be the ever popular Osso Bucco, a melt in your mouth shank cut of beef cooked in a vegetable and tomato sauce with a Gremolata of finely grated orange zest, garlic & parsley, served with creamy polenta and steamed green vegetables. The Vegetarian main option is Ratatouille, a French rustic classic of Eggplant, Red Capsicum, Zucchini and Red Onion, separately char grilled then baked in a rich tomato sauce. I am going to find it difficult to decide what to have both nights so will probably have a little of each! The Jerusalem Artichoke soup with hazelnut butter is one of my all time favourite soups - Eddie first made this for me many years ago and I look forward to them coming into season every year. The season for them is nearly over now, so I’m getting this in again while I can. We will be going to pick-up all the produce for both nights on Thursday morning and putting in the orders with the butchers by Wednesday, so PLEASE help us by getting your orders in as early as possible in the week, by Wednesday hopefully. When its all been allocated this week, there will not be any time to go out shopping again for extra supplies - so if you would like to have Ed cook you a beautiful meal this week, be sure to get those emails to me early and bag yourself some great food! 09.01.2022 Thank you all for a lovely week at Ed's Kitchen. We had lots of fun in the kitchen cooking for you all, we met some new people, and it all made this lockdown just that bit more bearable for us and hopefully for you too. This week we are revisiting some classics. The Salmon & sweet potato fish cakes that are on Friday night, Ed used to make when he worked at the award-winning Sun and Doves hotel, one of the original Gastropubs in London. They are super delicious and one of Cam... and my favourite dishes - fresh salmon, sweet potato & dill coated in crispy panko crumbs sitting on the creamy pea mint puree - comfort food at its best! The other menu item I wanted to tell you about, is the orange creme renversee on Saturday night. It is an orange-infused baked custard dessert with a dark caramel sauce - delicious! Along the lines of a creme caramel, but better - in my opinion! Anyway, if you would like to order anything this week, as usual, please get your order into [email protected] with your pick up time between 5-7 pm as early as possible, to help us place our produce orders. 06.01.2022 Hello Lovely Edstars! Well what a week that was - sold out both Friday & Saturday! Fantastic! A big thank you to all of our great customers! It’s been a very slow Sunday indeed at our house today.... Ok, so we can now confirm, that Ed has a start date of 26 October for a TV show, and I am starting on a different job on 19th of October. Because of these bookings we have decided to commit to doing Ed’s kitchen in it’s present form (Wed, Fri, Sat) until I start back at work, and then just the Saturday on the 24th of October. Many people have asked if we will still be doing this after he starts on his show, and the honest answer is, until he starts, we really can’t tell if it will be possible or not. I can tell you though, that if there is any way we can do it - we will continue, because it has been a truely fantastic experience, the whole thing. We have laughed, we have cried, we have made new friends, we have made the best of a bad situation and we have made great memories, but mostly, we have loved it and felt very lucky that we have been able to do it! So, for the final couple of weeks, we are putting it out to the community for everyone’s favourite Ed’s Kitchen dishes and we’ve had a great response so far. If you have a favourite dish you would like to see again, (or one you missed out on) send me an email, and I will do my best to get it on the menu. That’s it from us this week. 05.01.2022 Hello Edstars!! Well it has finally happened, the time has definitely come for us to wind things up with our Wednesday, Friday & Saturday night pick up service. I said to a lot of people last week that we would be doing both Wednesday & Saturday this week, but we have had to change that, I’m so sorry, and only do this Wednesday.... There is just simply too much to organise for the work ahead and do the Saturday Service as well. Also, Ed will have to get the truck ready to go on location and I will not be available to keep on top of the orders. So, this is it for now. When he gets things running smoothly during the weeks ahead, and thinks he could do a special night here and there, we will let you know! I know I’ve said it before, but I really want to tell you all again, how much we have enjoyed doing this. It really has been lots of fun, we have met some really lovely people, and Ed has learnt a lot about what is capable with boxed meals and what is not! So thank you one and all, for all your beautiful words of praise, encouragement and thanks. It really has meant the world to us in such a crazy time and kept us happy to be busy and our minds occupied. I hope it has brought a bit of happiness to you too.
