25.01.2022 Michele Turk from Bradshaw Primary School is the winner of the NT Leadership in Schools award! Being one of the first students at Bradshaw when it opened in 1974, to now Principal at the school (awesome!), Michele is an inspirational leader with very high aspirations who inspires the same in her students. Taking a break from teaching earlier in her career, Michele said there was something not quite right, there was a little bit of emptiness So I found my way back to teaching and my heart’s been filled ever since, and I’ve loved every day of my career. Outstanding achievement Michele, congratulations!

The conference featured guest speakers and breakout sessions to provide new learning for early childhood educators. 16.01.2022 Study, Earn or Train in the NT! 2020 Year 12s leaving school can now register their interest for ‘Get SET in the NT’. The initiative gives students the opportunity to Study, Earn or Train in the NT across a range of new and existing programs. Study: 10 new scholarships at Charles Darwin University for the top ten 2020 Northern Territory ATAR students... Earn: Explore career opportunities in a variety of trades and industries in the Northern Territory Train: On-the-job paid training working in the Northern Territory Government and not-for-profit organisations in 2021 for up to 100 students. 15.01.2022 Maningrida Community College's Trade Training Centre offers VET Building and Construction and VET Automotive courses for Senior students providing practical, on the job learning with guidance from industry accredited trainers. Students take part in real life learning through a range of job opportunities while completing their certificate modules, providing them with an educational pathway that ensures job readiness when they finish school. Some of the students are studying t...heir Cert I in Building & Construction, putting their skills towards a pizza-shaped garden and two teepees joined by a bridge for the Maningrida Preschool. 13.01.2022 The NT Chief Health Officer has expanded COVID-19 testing requirements for those people who have arrived in the NT from areas in Queensland and NSW. The NT Chief Health Officer requires any person who has arrived (or is yet to arrive) in the NT to be tested for COVID-19 if: they have been in City of Ipswich, Logan City, Redland City, and Gladstone Region Local Government Areas since 25 March 2021; or they have been in the Byron Shire Council Local Government Area in NSW s...ince 27 March. This is in addition to testing requirements for people who have arrived in the NT from the City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay Region Local Government Areas since 20 March 2021. Anyone who has arrived in the NT from these areas between 12 March and 11:59pm on 19 March and who are showing any symptoms of COVID-19 must self-quarantine and get tested. If this is applicable to you, please follow the advice issued by the NT Chief Health Officer to: - Arrange for a COVID-19 test - Self- quarantine whilst awaiting for the results - Return to school only once a negative test has been returned and/or you have clearance from COVID-19 Hotline to do so (COVID-19 Hotline: 1800 020 080) All of our educators have been sent this advice and we will support schools to ensure that teachers are following the latest health advice.

11.01.2022 Yirrkala Bilingual School students participated in the NAIDOC Minecraft Education Challenge during NAIDOC Week, which saw 14-year-old student Wilirriya Burarrwanga win second place in the Best Augmented Reality Characters category. The school was invited to participate in this special event to create and build new, sustainable cities based on their interpretation of Indigenous cultural knowledge and language in the online gaming world of Minecraft. Winners were announced at the National Library of Canberra last week. Well done to Wilirriya and Yirrkala Bilingual School for this fantastic achievement!

10.01.2022 New Hotspot - Byron Shire Council The Chief Health Officer has declared a hotspot over the Byron Shire Council Local Government Area in New South Wales from 4....30pm today requiring all people returning to the NT to enter into mandatory supervised quarantine. The Chief Health Officer is also directing those people who arrived in the NT between 26 March and 4:29pm on 30 March 2021 from the Byron Shire Council to self-quarantine and get tested, and remain in quarantine for 14 days, irrespective of returning a negative test. The quarantine period starts on the date of departure from a declared hotspot and ends 14 days later, irrespective of how many of these days are spent in the Northern Territory. Self-quarantine may be undertaken at home, or at a suitable address, as long as the CHO Directions are complied with. In addition, a watch and wait has been issued for the Gold Coast, while Queensland health authorities continue to investigate links to positive COVID-19 cases and contact tracing is undertaken across the region. If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, it is strongly recommended that you get tested and remain in self-quarantine until a negative test is returned. The below Queensland Local Government Areas remain declared COVID-19 Hotspots for the purposes of travel to the Northern Territory from 4.30pm Monday 29 March: City of Brisbane Moreton Bay Region City of Ipswich Logan City Redland City Toowoomba Region Anyone entering the Northern Territory from a declared hotspot must undertake 14 days of mandatory, supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs quarantine facilities at a cost of $2,500 per person. Quarantine will be undertaken at the first urban centre you arrive at. Existing CHO testing directions remain in place. 08.01.2022 Evie Taspe from Kintore Street School is the NT Special Educator of the Year! Described by her colleagues as compassionate, resilient, proactive and driven, Evie has worked at the school as a Special Education Support Officer for 8 years and is now undertaking her Bachelor of Education. As well as her commitment to students' learning at school, Evie volunteers her time for all activities outside of school to ensure the students have a range of experiences to grow as individuals. Evie's advice is "if you're an Assistant, the best way to go is do your Bachelor of Education cos' you're already doing the work, you've got the experience. So go for it." Congratulations Evie!

City of Ipswich Logan City Moreton Bay Region Redland City Toowoomba Region Anyone entering the Northern Territory from a COVID-19 hotspot from 4.30pm today must undertake 14 days of mandatory, supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs quarantine facilities. Those people travelling by road into the NT before 11.59pm tonight will not have to pay for quarantine, but will still be required to undertake quarantine. Those people who have travelled to the Northern Territory before 4.30pm must follow existing Chief Health Officer testing directions which require those people to self-quarantine and get a COVID-19 test within 72 hours, and remain in self-quarantine until a negative test is returned. This does not include those who have just transited through Brisbane Airport. Those people required to get tested under CHO Directions include: NEW: Those who have arrived in the Northern Territory from the Toowoomba Region between 26 March and 4.29pm today, 29 March 2021. Those who have arrived in the Northern Territory from Byron Shire Council LGA in New South Wales since 27 March 2021; Those who have arrived in the Northern Territory from the City of Ipswich, Logan City, Redland City, and Gladstone Region LGA’s since 25 March 2021; Those who have arrived in the Northern Territory from City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay region LGA’s since 20 March 2021; Those who have arrived in the Northern Territory from the City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay Region Local Government Areas between 12 March and 11.59pm on 19 March who are showing any symptoms of COVID-19. 03.01.2022 ‘Always Was, Always Will Be.’ NAIDOC Week is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. It is a week where we recognise and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Australia, their history, heritage, traditions and achievements. Tag Education NT to show how your school is participating to celebrate this significant week.

02.01.2022 Bluey visited the kids at Shepherdson College today and it was smiles all round as they were entertained by Australia’s most loved blue heeler. This was the first time Bluey has visited a remote community and by all accounts, she was very impressed by the amazing kids at Galiwin’ku!

01.01.2022 Daniel Ellem from Gunbalanya Community School is the NT Vocational Education Trainer of the Year! Dan implemented the VET Maritime program at Milingimbi School which saw students work towards industry qualifications and employment in the field, and a voyage from Milingimbi to Nhulunbuy and back by sea. From there he ventured to Baniyala Garrangali School as Teaching Principal, where he established the VET Maritime program in response to community aspirations for their young people to gain skills relevant to their country. Now Co-Principal at Gunbalanya School, Dan is passionate about implementing contextually relevant VET programs that embrace the cultural perspectives of local people, and align with real employment opportunities. Well done Dan, we can't wait to see what's next!
