23.01.2022 This is our song to help explain coronavirus & lockdowns to little people. A lot of big people told us it’s helped them too. We originally put this out in Apri...l 2020 and the original video had around 250,000 views, but our page was stolen and that video disappeared. If you shared this back in April, it’s no longer on your timeline, it just says ‘this content is unavailable’. So here it is again, or maybe this is the first time you’ve seen it, either way we’re glad it’s found it’s way to you. We’re now posting this in September 2020, in Melbourne, where we are back in stage 4 lockdown. So it remains very relevant where we are. What a time to be alive. Hang in there everyone Listen / stream / download ‘Stay Home’ here: https://abcmusic.lnk.to/stayhome #stayhome #lockdown #coronavirus

22.01.2022 Congratulations Australia! Together, we counted a record-breaking 4.8 million birds! "The increase in sightings reflects the huge surge in interest we've... seen in birds in 2020, " says Sean Dooley, our National Public Affairs Manager. "This year in particular, birds have provided a sense of hope and joy for many of us - so it is no surprise that more people than ever have been getting out and joining in the fun." We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to every one of you that helped make this event such a success in 2020 - whether you used the #AussieBirdCount hashtag, encouraged your friends, family, school or workplace to get counting - or simply took the plunge and had a go for your very first time! Thank you for all of your lovely comments and photos. A HUGE thanks also to our amazing team of 12 Chief Counters who pitched in and spread the #AussieBirdCount message far and wide across TV, radio and all the socials! The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is over, but we'll leave the app and website open until 11:59PM AEDT Wednesday 28th October for you to submit any backdated checklists. You can edit the date and time on your checklists by clicking on the date and/or time and adjusting accordingly. After this date, our Aussie Backyard Bird Count team will be collating, vetting and analysing the data. We hope to have the results ready for you in November - watch this space... Keen to keep counting for conservation? Stay tuned, for our next post will introduce our Birds in Backyards survey program. And last but not least - the lucky winners of our incredible prizes will be announced via email on 9th November. #AussieBirdCount #BirdLifeOz #UrbanBirds #BirdsinBackyards #Birdata #CitizenScience #CitSciOz #cuppawiththebirds #birdingathome
22.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Dear friends of the Eel Festival The Lake Bolac Eel Festival Committee has made the difficult decision that due to the continuing uncertainty with COVID-19 we will not be able to hold a festival in the usual format in March 2021. ... It is impossible to plan ahead while we cannot be sure of what will be allowed by way of events and social gatherings next March. We feel this decision is necessary to ensure the health and safety of the community, our volunteers, musicians, artists, stall-holders, contractors and of course our wonderful audience. We are looking forward to the next Lake Bolac Eel Festival which is planned for the weekend of March 25th to 27th 2022. We intend to hold one or two smaller events during 2021 either live at Lake Bolac or via online streaming. These events will be well publicised in due course. If you are holding tickets for the 2020 Festival they will be valid for 2022. However, you may request a refund by contacting us via email and quoting your name, quantity and type of tickets and the order ID if you have it. We thank you for your continuing support for the Eel Festival in these tough times and look forward to seeing you in Lake Bolac in March 2022. Kind regards Una Allender Festival Secretary e: [email protected] **Note: we are having some problems with our website. 22.01.2022 Following the path of the migrating eels. The Lake Bolac Eel Festival Healing Walk began when Lake Bolac local, and acclaimed musician and author, N...eil Murray, had the idea of walking with Traditional Owners along the Hopkins River, following the path of the migrating eels. The first walk took place in 2005 and preceded the first Lake Bolac Eel Festival, Kuyang Lapakira Plenty Eels. A Healing Walk has taken place before each festival since then. It helps connect attendees quietly to the land. 16.01.2022 Thank you, backyard birdwatchers! During Covid-19 restrictions in April, Australian citizen scientists submitted a whopping ten times the number of backyard bird surveys to BirdLife Australias Birdata app than the same time last year. What many of you twitchy heroes might not realise is that your efforts provided critical information on the whereabouts and likely feeding preferences of many bird species that were displaced by last summers devastating bushfires. This data is... vital for conservation groups and governments to direct bushfire recovery efforts, including which areas might be important for controlling invasive predators, providing supplementary feeding and installing nest boxes. So if youve been contributing your observations thank you and please keep going! If you havent submitted any observations yet but would like to, please click below for more information and recommendations on which apps or programs might be most suitable for your level of birdwatching experience and location: https://theconversation.com/birdwatching-increased-tenfold-
15.01.2022 The Lake Bolac Eel Festival Committee and Friends are devastated to learn of the recent desecration of the Kuyang Stone Arrangement. The Lake Bolac Eel Festival (Kuyang Lapakira) has been, and continues to be, a significant gathering place for people who care for the environment, respect Aboriginal cultural heritage and foster reconciliation and mutual respect and understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples. We offer our full support to the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and Traditional Owners and it is our intention to work towards providing assistance and support for the protection of this sacred site.

09.01.2022 Always Was Always Will Be This NAIDOC Week (8-15 November) we celebrate and acknowledge the spiritual and cultural connections to this country for at least 65,0...00 years, of our First Nations partners. The Coastal Connections Project is one of the many great projects Glenelg Hopkins CMA works on in partnership with Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation. Part of Coastal Connections aims to enhance and protect wetland habitat for the critically endangered Australasian bittern. Gunditjmara Traditional Owners are leading this work across the World Heritage listed Budj Bim Cultural Landscape - particularly on their Tyrendarra and Kurtonitj properties. Cultural burns are being undertaken to create habitat mosaics to increase access to food and sites suitable for nesting benefitting bitterns and many other wetland species found in the area. This project is one of several that include Tradional-owner-led cultural burning supported by Glenelg Hopkins CMA. Others include the Red Tails of the Glenelg Plain - working to protect food sources and habitat of the south eastern red-tailed black cockatoo, a culturally significant species; and the Victorian Volcanic Plains project - aiming to enhance and protect endangered temperate grasslands and related species, in part by reinstating regular cool burning regimes. Funding for these projects is provided by Glenelg Hopkins CMA through the Australian Government's National Landcare Program. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC You can see how the cultural burns are undertaken and the importance of Traditional Owner experience here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FHAEEh9lhw Note: Some of these images were taken prior to covid mask/physical distancing restrictions.
