25.01.2022 Glenn and Shaun were lucky enough to be nominated to attend a small business workshop held by Anya from PeopleSense. These workshops cover a vast number of industries and provide professional assistance to help small businesses. It was a great experience being shoulder to shoulder with Anya and Smiley from 96fm - legends!

24.01.2022 We’re well into 2021, and the ways COVID-19 is impacting the international freight industry just keep coming. Hong Kong, one of the world’s most important global airfreight gateways, is now looking at introducing mandatory 14-day quarantine for airline crews returning to the territory after an international layover. This quarantine would apply to both passenger and freighter aircraft. So far aircrew staff members have been exempt from quarantine arrangements however Hong Kong... is facing a potential fourth wave of COVID-19. This could have significant impacts on international shipping as freight forwarders try to combat potentially lost capacity. Meanwhile China is on high alert as this year’s Spring Festival, the world’s biggest migration period, gets underway. Last Year’s Spring Festival was a COVID-19 superspreader event so authorities in areas which aren’t under any lockdown are warning that coming home after travel may be an issue. Companies have also been encouraged to offer workers subsidies, free food and short cultural tours in a bid to get them to stay at home rather than travel. As we know here in WA, things can change in an instant so it’s worth keeping an eye on things as they unfold in China. See more

24.01.2022 The container shortage has become critical in China with some shipping lines unable to offer 40'GP/HC equipment at some ports. The continuing strength of freight rates is almost certainly related to both equipment shortages in China and tight vessel capacity. http://eescair.com/?p=11751

22.01.2022 Here’s a nice little noggin scratcher for everyone out there!

21.01.2022 The tail-end of 2020 certainly felt unprecedented and new figures from SeaIntelligence Consulting back up what we all experienced. Global container service scheduled reliability has declined to its lowest levels since records began with data for December showing just 44.6% of vessels arriving on time. It wasn’t just December though with SeaIntelligence Consulting saying that global schedule reliability had been at its lowest for five months consecutively up until December. As... we’ve been warning as well, there still may be some scheduling pain to come with SeaIntelligence Consulting chief executive Alan Murphy telling The LoadStar with continued widespread port congestion, and with carriers still not letting off capacity-wise (especially on the major trades) not even for Chinese New Year, shippers might not see improving schedule reliability until the second quarter of 2021,. 16.01.2022 Svitzer Australia (tug boat operators) have advised of the intended Protected Industrial Action by members of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA). This industrial action will only cause further uncertainty and disruption at an already difficult time for the Australian community and economy more broadly. http://eescair.com/?p=11759

10.01.2022 With everything that has been going on in 2020 you'd be forgiven for forgetting about this pesky insect - the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB). We are currently two months into stink bug season and today we're sharing an update from the Department of Agriculture. http://eescair.com/?p=11767

09.01.2022 The delays we saw after CNY 2020 are already manifesting in 2021. According to Ocean Insights, truck driver quarantine is a major issue. As factories reopen, most truckers returned home for New Year, subjecting them to mandatory quarantines. In some regions, up to 95% of truckers will be unavailable, so history is repeating itself.

04.01.2022 Our director Brian Hack explains why the shipping reprieve we had hoped for in early 2021 hasn’t materialised yet.

02.01.2022 Sweeper vessels are waiting for the congestion in Sydney to ease before they are able to move much-needed empty containers back to China. http://eescair.com/?p=11778

01.01.2022 The Port of Shanghai has broken its own monthly container handling record, becoming the first port in the world to handle more than four million TEU (twenty foot equivalent units) in a calendar month. http://eescair.com/?p=11775
