25.01.2022 Why get left behind when more and more Australian families are getting on board with home automation? Give Eastside Electrical Services a call and ask how we can help to make your home a smart home.
24.01.2022 Smoke alarms are one of those things that once installed, most people give little thought to other than replacing the battery once in a while. The fact of the matter is that they are an important- and often the only-piece of equipment in the early warning of a fire in your home. There are laws in place to ensure that every home in NSW (and other states) has at least one alarm in place with all new buildings and renovations requiring a hardwired, battery backup unit since 1996... but unfortunately and tragically, these laws are often ignored. This is difficult to understand given that for basic protection a smoke alarm can be purchased for under $20-surely not to much to pay for your family's safety? Even a professionally installed hardwired with battery backup unit will usually be under $200 and given that a smoke detector lasts for about 10 years, that is once again only about $20 per year. On the subject of working lifetime, most people are unaware that smoke detectors only last for between 8-10 years- they must be disposed of and replaced after that, so if your smoke detector was installed in 2005 or earlier do something about changing it TODAY! And unless yours is of the 10 year longlife battery type the batteries must be changed every year- the easiest way to remember is to do it on your birthday or your wife's, husband's, sons, daughter- whatever is easy for you to remember. Another thing to be aware is of the type of detector that you have installed. A photoelectric type gives better and much faster warning than the ionisation type which were very common not to long ago and still available. The minimum requirement for a detector placement is basically one on each level of a home. Please note that this is just a MINIMUM requirement-there is nothing to stop you you from placing one in each bedroom of the house and is very advisable. A hardwired detector can interlink with all other detectors on other levels and in different rooms so when one goes off they all do, ensuring that all occupants will hear the warning. For maximum protection, your detectors can be integrated with some of your lights to provide an egress path from your home in case of a fire or to trigger an alarm monitored by a security company to alert you if you are not at home-contact us for more details. 19.01.2022 An interesting article of a potentially beneficial technology. Notice that the author mentions the importance of "colour rendering index" or CRI. If you are not sure what it means, we have an earlier post on here so please scroll down to read. A lot of cheap LED fittings have a poor CRI-as do many expensive ones. We only use fittings with a CRI of at least 80 and our premium products go right up to a CRI of 92. Contact us for more information.
18.01.2022 Are you ready for the NBN? Politics aside, most of us will be getting high speed broadband at some time in the near future. Most people are unaware that to get the most out this service they will have to install data cabling throughout their home. if you are building or renovating, the costs can be surprisingly inexpensive to get a complete structured wiring solution (you may also know it as Smart Wiring). Even if you are not doing any building work, running some data cables ...to a few key points in your home can be very affordable and although you may not be getting any NBN services for a while, your existing data usage will be enhanced greatly by a properly installed wiring solution . Have a look at the link below for some more information and call us Eastside Electrical Services for more information on how we can get your home ready for the future of the internet in Australia.. 16.01.2022 A lot of people are switching to LED lighting these days-and so they should. With massive energy savings to be had which benefits both your wallet and the environment its really quite an easy decision to go with LED. Unfortunately there are a lot of cheap products on the market which may not give you the results that you are after. Inferior materials, cheap drivers (transformer) and poor quality LED chips result in a less than impressive look in your home or office. One of th...e critical things to watch out for when purchasing LED fittings is the Colour Rendering Index (CRI) rating. the CRI is basically a guide to how well an artificial light illuminates an object compared to natural light. A low rating will mean that everything that is illuminated by the lights will appear washed out or faded whilst a high-above 80-rating will bring colours to life in a natural way. Trust me when i say that you WILL be disappointed if you chose to install LED fittings with a low CRI-spend a little more and be assured of getting the light quality that you want. See more

11.01.2022 Its almost the end of daylight savings time in most states of Australia. As well as remembering to put your clocks back an hour, please dont forget to change the battery in your smoke detectors if, like many people, you use the end of daylight savings to to remind you to do so.
11.01.2022 A great charity and if you can afford to donate a little, i'm sure that the kids would really appreciate it. https://www.makeawish.org.au/volunteering-make-wish
10.01.2022 Another beautiful Sydney home that EES had the pleasure of being involved with. The level of detail in this home is extraordinary and whomever purchases this property will be very happy.
10.01.2022 At last at least one state government is doing what we at EES believe should have been done years ago! The price of hardwired and interconnected detectors is usually very reasonable and nothing in comparison to a loss of life. We applaud the Queenslanders sensible decision.
09.01.2022 Incredibly, in 2015 this is still an issue! Most residential house switchboards can be upgraded from around eight hundred dollars. A typical sub-board in a flat or villa is around five to eight hundred dollars. For rented properties the price to upgrade a sub-board in a flat is about a week's rent based on the average Sydney rental price and of course as a repair, its tax deductible anyway. Some states already have legislation in place that forces landlords to install safety ...switches before they can rent a property-why hasn't this happened in NSW yet? But forget the dollars and cents for a minute and think about the safety that a safety switch affords friends, family and others. Please, if you have an old switchboard with rewireable fuses or a more modern board with circuit breakers, strongly consider upgrading to safety switch protection today! See more

08.01.2022 Its been mentioned on here before but once again "Lighthouse' at Dover Heights has come up for yet another award-this time nominated for the People's Choice Award at the National Architecture Awards. This beautiful home has already won prestigious awards and there might be more to come. Eastside Electrical Services were the electrical, data and security contractors on this project and we are very proud of our efforts and to have been involved with this superb project.
06.01.2022 Sometime you just need to laugh :)
05.01.2022 Thousands of homes in Sydney still have this wiring installed-don't wait until its too late to have it checked and replaced!
05.01.2022 Interested in home automation? Like to find out what it is and what it can do for you? Here is a short article that will answer these questions and of course if you require more information, please contact us at EES today.
04.01.2022 Probably not wise that we mention another electrical contractor on our page but these guys made a killer video worth sharing- enjoy
03.01.2022 The Queensland government has been very progressive in some key areas involving the electrical industry. They are the first state government to bring in legislation which will prevent builders and developers from using money owed to mum and dad subcontractors for their own cash flow. They have also introduced more stringent requirements for not only the manufacture but also the installation of smoke detectors. This article suggests that are aggressively urging all homeowners ...to make sure that they have properly installed safety switches in their homes. It is beyond comprehension that in 2017 we still have to get this message across but unfortunately it seems that until more lives are needlessly lost other governments will continue to play like the three blind mice on this issue!! Please contact us if you would like an obligation free quote to have your switchboard upgraded in the Sydney metropolitan area. See more
02.01.2022 Have you changed your smoke alarm lately? Most smoke alarms only function properly for a maximum of 10 years so if yours is older than this replace it TODAY! For extra peace of mind have a hardwired (connected to the 230 volt mains) installed by a licensed electrical contractor (as is required in all new homes or renovations) and interlinked with all the detectors in your home so when one is triggered, they all trigger.
02.01.2022 Here is a link to a Government report on the benefits of home automation. It's interesting reading especially if you are not sure what automation is about and the benefits that it offers. Please contact EES for more help and information. http://www.yourhome.gov.au/energy/home-automation
01.01.2022 A great campaign to make people aware of the dangers of having an outdated smoke alarm fitted. When was your's installed?
