23.01.2022 I help another beekeeper collect a nice swarm today. These girls will go into a top bar hive with the bucket making it easy to put them into the top bar hive tomorrow. 21.01.2022 While moving some hives last night I had a near miss while a mummy possum with at least one little on her back. I was pretty sure I hadn’t hit them when they disappeared from view in front of my car but I had doubts when they did t come out the other side. I reversed back to take a look but they were gone. I can only guess she scampered off in the direction she came from. 18.01.2022 We finally have some honey for sale. With the last two years being very dry with the drought the bees haven’t been able to make much honey and because of this we have left them with their honey rather than take honey that they need to survive. Luckily this year was a bit better with the rain that came in February and March and we were able to get a bit of honey and some honey comb. If you love local honey we have honey from Fitzroy Falls and honeycomb from Kangaroo Valley for sale. 18.01.2022 Today was a day of swarms. Amongst the swarms today was a swarm on a citrus tree at mittagong and a swarm in an apple tree at Fitzroy Falls. These girls made a cool bee trunk after the branch they were on dropped to the ground. One of the ladies took a rest on my glove. 06.01.2022 I saw this bee fly in our garden today. People often mistake these for bees which is not surprising as their appearance as a bee is a defensive mechanism to prevent them being preyed upon. The even buzz a lot like bees. You can tell the difference between flys and bees by the antennae. Flys have small antenna between their eyes where bees have two long antennae on the top of their head. Flys also have one pair of wings where bees have two pairs. #bees #flys #pollinators #garden #eezybeez #southernhighlands

02.01.2022 The bees were busy on the ameria today. It was interesting to see about 6 bees working across all these plants (11of them). There must have been about 15 working one lavender bush. A bee hive will have more bees working a nectar source that will get them more nectar and less bees working on something that will give them less nectar.
