22.01.2022 We are so proud to have been supporting Renew’s solar projects in Timor Leste since September 2016, more specifically Renew’s village lighting program. Since 2003, Renew has been working with communities in Timor-Leste to provide clean, renewable lighting and electricity. They have helped install solar lighting and power to more than 2,000 homes and over 100 community centers, orphanages, schools and hospitals in remote villages. They have also helped train 180 village-based ...solar technicians. Off-grid households in Timor Leste use kerosene for lighting which is dangerous, expensive and inefficient. The village lighting program empowers communities to own and manage their solar systems, which provide light and phone charging capabilities. Efficient Living’s support has provided light to 42 households in Timor Leste. These households will save $1,280 in kerosene expenditure over the lifetime of their solar systems while receiving 2,800 more lighting hours and light that is 255 lumens brighter than their old kerosene lanterns. To date, they estimate that their work installing household solar PV systems has provided modern energy services to over 10,700 people, enabled 550 people to undertake additional economic activity resulting in over $1.1 million of income, saved each household over $900 on kerosene expenditure, and displaced 4,250 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. 08.01.2022 Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) was introduced in 2004 by the NSW Government as part of the sustainable planning measures to assess and set minimum targets for water and energy usage and thermal comfort performance to all new residential dwellings, and dwellings proposing alterations and additions. It is now 2020, and Efficient Living have been liaising with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s BASIX Team over the years in an effort to get the BASIX tool up...dated to reflect modern day changes to technology, and to ask for more flexibility around applying offset points for construction inclusions that cannot necessarily be reflected in the current tool but add significant sustainability value. We are so happy to see that we have the wonderful support from Rob Stokes, our NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces. Let’s hope they listen to him!

07.01.2022 Surviving and thriving in COVID-19. We won’t let isolation spoil our Friday work drinks A dozen delivered hampers and wine and virtual drinks came alive online. With dogs and kids in the back ground, talking over the top of each other, I can’t say we nailed it but it was a good laugh and critically important social connection. Love my work crew!
