22.01.2022 IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF EFNL UMPIRE TRAINING! Following the recent update from Daniel Andrews and the State Government today, Metropolitan Melbourne has been placed back into a 6 week lockdown from 11.59pm on Wednesday 8th July. It’s extremely disappointing but unfortunately that means that the League have sent notification to the EFNL clubs that all club sanctioned training must cease immediately for all Senior and Junior Clubs.... The League will decipher the detail of the information and provide a further update in the coming days. As it stands it’s not looking good for any football (training or matches) to be played across our League or any League in Victoria in 2020. Effective immediately, all EFNL Umpire training has been cancelled there will be no Monday (Juniors) or Wednesday (Seniors) training until further notice while we adhere to the new restrictions. It is particularly disappointing following last night’s impressive Junior training session where the signs were encouraging: The number of attendees was excellent The attitude and work rate of the whole group was very good The transference of the instructions for the drills into actually doing the drill by the umpires was first class All in all, a very good session and thanks to the emerging umpires who helped facilitate the drills and Graeme and Bolts for making it all happen (Sean was unable to attend last night) The League understands there will be 1000’s of devastated players and umpires affected by this decision, but this is a public health issue and one that is outside of the of the leagues control.
22.01.2022 It’s AFL Grand Final day. So let’s take a look back at the panel shots from our grand finals in 2019. We congratulate the AFL umpires on their selection and wish them all the best for tonight’s game. ... Who will win or ??? @pownster1976

15.01.2022 Here we are at the end of the season that never was. Today would have been the Premier division grand final. We will all miss not standing in our favourite pocket of Bayswater Oval supporting and encouraging all those involved in the big games on the day. To acknowledge this day here is a look back at last years big day through the lens of Chris Powney. Thanks Chris! Chris Powney Photography
15.01.2022 Happy Friday All ! . . Our Barefoot Bowls Night and EFLUA AGM is fast approaching ! We can not wait to see as many of you there as possible for our first Official Social function of the EFLUA for season 2021. Barefoot Bowls Night is on this coming Wednesday 17th of March, commencing at 5:30pm, with the AGM to follow at 7pm - all hosted at the Heathmont Bowls Club. 15.01.2022 Good afternoon all, Well what a season 2020 has turned out to be! Who would have thought anything like this would happen in our lifetimes!!! Whilst every avenue was exhausted in trying to get a season underway earlier in the year, we now know that this thing is bigger than anyone. As we now sit here, this week would have marked the start of the finals series in Premier and 1st Division, with Divisions 2, 3 and 4 commencing last week and Junior Grand Finals done and dusted. Al...l the hard work would have paid off and we would have been performing at our peak, trying to get the best possible Grand Final. No doubt the coaches would be working through all the permutations. Would Dan Beard get back to top of the mountain? Would his great mate Damian Sully do his third Premier Grand Final in a row? Would we see the emergence of a young up and comer? Would Matty Milne step up (he had put in a big pre season)? How high up would last years debutants go, Tommy Noonan, Dan Chaston, Byron Browne? We had last years Premier Grand Final umpire, Luke Hunter having a crack down at the VFL, he was joined by James Irvine. We wish them luck. Hopefully they’ll get another crack next year. What about the girls? Would Gen Devenish go on and debut in a Senior Grand Final? How far would Sarah Vanderschoot go? Would we see some of our newest members go up the ranks or would some old wily foxes step in? Unfortunately, these questions will remain unanswered for 2020. But, don’t despair, before we know it season 2021 will be upon us and we can start all over again. (COVID pending of course) I know we had a large number of first year umpires looking to come onboard and enjoy the experience. I hope that you are all still keen to come back and share that experience. Coach Clarkey will be champing at the bit to get you all back and pass on his knowledge, along with his mentor Graeme Meredith and Emerging umpire coach Nathan McDonald. Whilst we have all missed footy this year, I hope you are all keen to get back on board and storm into the 2021 season. As they say, ‘You don’t know what you’ve got till its gone' I look forward to seeing you all when pre season commences in February next year. In the meantime, stay safe, stay well Dean O’Neill EFLUA President
