23.01.2022 Here are some shots of the finishing process. Firstly the final shellac coat before sanding and colour. Colour coat before clear coat and binding scraped back, which is very exacting and extremely likely you'll damage the colour. so countless scraping masking and touching up. Heads wrecked! Finally, first coat of clear.

22.01.2022 The 295 is finally painted and cured, never known a guitar dry as fast. Sprayed one coat a day,in the hot weather, 41 degrees one day! And now the finish seems a month old. Bought Mick Brieley hand wound pickups. Great product, beautifully made, great service and advise. He wound them to my specs and made some great suggestions too. very fair price. Built the loom, and the passive peizo circuit ( for harmonising feedback)... Waiting on a few small parts, then will commence posting all the loom into the guitar, not an easy task, if it's not quite right it all has to come out and start again. Went nuts on the shielding,as we know single coil pickups can be noisy.and used orange drop capacitors for the tone controls. Have left a shot of the colour, if anyone wants to achieve the gold top look without mucking around with copper powder and tinting clear with amber, to try to achieve the colour. Very hit and miss, I've noticed that Gibsons vary quite a bit on the shades, I found it hard enough to pick one from a colour chart. Toyota do a colour that's very similar. See more

19.01.2022 I've been improving this Ephiphone Sorrento, by making it more a Gibson ES 125 clone. Changed the pickups from the Korean Samsungs , to Martin a Smiths , new cts pots , orange drop caps and fifties vintage wiring. Also gave it a fret level and polish. Fitted a Schaller roller bridge to widen the string spacing, which on the original set up was stupidity narrow. Had a lot of trouble wiring ,it being such a thin guitar , but well worth the effort, has a huge tonal range and s...ounds great. UsesAlnico 4 magnets in the neck pickup and 5's in the bridge. Many thanks to Martin and Cain of Kosmic sound ,for all the great advice and support. Plays and acts like a three grand Gibson. Very happy. When someone tells you a Korean guitar has Gibson pickups , don't believe them, Samsung. See more

07.01.2022 Had to rewire this Eastwood bass. The previous owner did a very strange mod ,where he cut all the wires to the toggle switch and hard wired it so both pickups were on all the time, turned it into a real bag of string inside. I find it bewildering that someone would go to so much trouble pulling the loom out to do that, when putting the switch in the centre position does the same thing. Also gave the bass a fret level and polish, worked on the bridge to get the string spacing right, filled and recut the nut and repositioned the tailpiece, which was installed incorrectly from the factory. It plays well now , it's got that sixties Small Faces bass sound, it's not my thing , but the owner likes it now. I think these semi acoustic bass look better than they sound.

04.01.2022 Installed the wiring loom in the 295 today, was harder than the last time I wired a semi acoustic, had to walk off and have a coffee a couple of times, had the wiring half in and out a few times,to get everything right. Thanks to the Chinese for chop sticks. Was feeling pretty frayed by the time I got it in, stressful as the finish is still soft and so easily scratched. Still, got it done, very pleased with the end product, sounds great, but had to remove the peizo circuit an...d will re install once I've got over an issue,I need to research. It sounds really good cranked, getting some nice feedback tones, but would be more controllable with the peizo. So now just fine tuning the nut and neck, to make it as playable as I can. So by and large the guitar kit was good, you need the best hardware you can afford, you need to treble check as it goes together and there are some small thing that you have to live with, your not gonna get a perfect guitar for $289. But bear in mind a Gibson ES 295 is $5800 US See more
