23.01.2022 TOP 10 POST LOCKDOWN MUSTS We're all dreaming of those day trips and weekend adventures that we'll be taking when it's safe to travel again. Here are so...me of our region's most iconic locations to add to that post lockdown bucket list! 1 WIRRAWILLA RAINFOREST WALK, TOOLANGI A short and gentle boardwalk circuit that takes in the sounds and scents of the rainforest characterised by Myrtle Beech and Sassafras trees. 2 CHEVIOT TUNNEL, YEA Located midway between Molesworth and Yea along the Great Victorian Rail trail this tunnel was constructed from an estimated 675,000 handmade bricks using local clay. 3 RUBICON VALLEY HISTORIC AREA This area offers some great walks set amongst the stunning Rubicon River and Falls, a series of spectacular trestle bridges, remnants of the timber industry and also Victoria's first hydroelectric system. 4 FOGGS LOOKOUT, EILDON Also known as Mount Pinninger Lookout, is a stunning vantage point in the Lake Eildon National Park offering spectacular views over the Dam Wall and vast clear waters of Lake Eildon. 5 MASONS FALLS, KINGLAKE Masons Falls is nestled in Kinglake National Park, our closest national park to Melbourne, making it an ideal spot for a day trip or weekend getaway. 6 TOOLANGI SCULPTURE TRAIL, TOOLANGI A forest gallery with dozens of ephermal art pieces dotted along the trail, all designed to blend into the natural environment over time. 7 CATHEDRAL RANGE STATE PARK, TAGGERTY A truly spectacular range that offers incredible views and some of the best hiking opportunities in the state. 8 MURCHISON GAP LOOKOUT, STRATH CREEK A great platform juts out from the side of the hill here and it is a killer sunrise spot with the sun coming up behind the hills and beyond. 9 BRUNO'S ART & SCULPTURE GARDEN, MARYSVILLE A blossoming garden of over 127 life size terracotta sculptures that were restored and introduced after the 2009 Bushfires. STEAVENSON FALLS, MARYSVILLE One of Murrindindi's most iconic waterfalls and one of Victoria's highest waterfalls, plummeting 84 metres and flowing all year round, is Steavenson Falls. 11.01.2022 Fishing Report 12th October 2020 I said it last week and I will say it again, it’s amazing what a week can make in fresh water fishing especially when the heave...ns open and flood the rivers and make the lake rise rapidly, over 600mm rise in three days. Friday and Saturday morning was the main chance to get a fish in the lake with some fishos trolling up some nice big browns on Tassie devils and the yellow belly fishos vibing around the trees had the smaller 35-40cm browns hitting the lures in what was reported as schools of them. Only a few Murry cod were reported but nothing huge, the odd yella and redfin on yabbies and scrub worms, vibes and size 2 stumpy in pink. The pondage was hard work along with the rivers mainly due to the muddy colour, some fishos that worked hard on Sunday with lures and drift baiting unweighted scrub worms were rewarded but they put a lot of time in on the water. Still better than a day working. As the lake and rivers settle before more rain later this week and a rising barometer the fish should really fire up. Until next week Fish Hard Cheers Craig See more

08.01.2022 HIKING MOUNT TORBRECK Mt Torbreck rises to an altitude of 1516 metre and offers breathtaking views of the ranges covered in ash forests in all directions ...are impressive, as are the views of nearby Lake Eildon and the higher ranges near Mt Buller! The westernmost mountain in the high country over 1500 metres and was briefly a designated ski resort in the 1980's... although the only infrastructure built was a picnic table. A rock cairn marks its summit! This is a 4.2km peaceful and serene hike to the top and possibly not as well known as other hikes in our region but definitely gives you not only a work out but also some serious ‘nature’ time. It can get quite chilly as weather changes quite quickly, with chances of spotting snow in the cooler months so be sure to rug up! Barnewall Plains Road (suitable for 2WD) is located approx. 14 kilometres south of Eildon off Eildon-Jamieson Road, with the start of the 2.1km summit walk signposted at the Barnewall Plains Visitor area.
