23.01.2022 It is Diastasis discussion week in classes this week, and what a way to kick it off with this great inforgraphic from @pelvicroar. I certainly feel this is a difficult topic to discuss with patients as there can be alot of fear around diastasis so lets bust some myths and inform, empower and help these patients. #Repost @pelvicroar... Approx 1/3 of women are thought to have Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) Research on DRA is sparse however what does exist highlights that it can lead to negative body image implications, reduced self-efficacy and quality of life (Keshwani et al. 2018; Benjamin et al. 2018) It has also been demonstrated to impact upon abdominal function, particularly rotational and "sit up" strength of the trunk (Hills et al. 2018) It remains unknown whether DRA impacts significantly on pelvic floor function with conflicting outcomes from limited research. A recent systematic review suggests a weak link between the presence of DRA and pelvic organ prolapse (Benjamin et al. 2018) however more research is needed to verify this. Physios specialising in women's health are well placed to assess and guide rehabilitation for DRA (Donnelly, 2019). If you think you have DRA seek a referral with a physio & start your rehabilitation. Your nearest womens health physiotherapists can be located via the @squeezy directory If you are a physio who suspects your patient has DRA but you are not experienced in managing it, contact a specialist physio and collaborate in order to address all factors of rehab required #pelvicroar #diastasis #diastasisrecti #mummytummy #DRA #postnatal #rehab #workingtogether #holistic #physioworks #DiastasisDoesntNeedToBeDisastrous See more

23.01.2022 so this was the end of my gym session the other day. its definately for higher level post natal but nice to have a flow and be aware of the abdomen throughout. #abs #pilates #postnatalhigherlevel #gymwork #bodyweight #thephysiogirl

22.01.2022 NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL. diastasis treatment is as individual as the individual themselves! there are no protocols. nothing beats an individual assesment. great campaign from @pelvicroar all this week about diastasis and debunking the myths around this. #Repost @pelvicroar ... Did you know that no set exercises or protocol has been proven to heal DRA Conflicting information & prescriptive programs are aplenty on the internet often making huge misguided claims There is no ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL approach Physios experienced in treating DRA understand that rehab needs to be as individualised as each individual. Rehab goals depend on what each person wishes to achieve & what activities/work/sport they are looking to get back to It can also depend on what factors may be contributing in each woman's presentation If you are unsure what rehab you need to follow, seek the expertise of a specialist physiotherapist #pelvicroar #mythbusting #Diastasis #DiastasisRecti #abdominalseparation #mummytummy #DRA #noprescriptions #noprotocols #varyactivity #individualisedtreatment #goalsetting #physioworks #DiastasisDoesntNeedToBeDisastrous See more

04.01.2022 I got a message today and it made me realise that although it's great that we are now talking more about post natal issues and getting the word out there.... Don't forget that post natal isn't always a total shot show! (sorry can't think of a classier way to say that). But not everyone has issues after baby. So if youre pregnant don't be worried! You always see all the negative things. So please comment mamas if things weren't as bad as you feared! Lets get some body positivity going here for any mamas that are expecting especially for the first time #onlyhearaboutthebadthings #dontscare #keeepitbalanced #postnatal

03.01.2022 add protein to any food or drink and you will feel like your buidling muscle and being super healthy. #protein #whoyafoolin
