25.01.2022 Building a local recycling industry will create jobs, tackle the waste crisis, and protect our precious environment. It's part of our Green New Deal for Victoria. Here's the plan: Use recycled materials in roads, footpaths, park benches and playgrounds. Provide grants to small businesses to reduce waste.... Build 23 new recycling factories, creating 760 manufacturing jobs. Ban polystyrene and single-use plastic packaging, and instead support locally made packaging from recycled materials. Want to see this plan come to life? As your candidate for Hawdon Ward I will work hard to revolutionise our recycling and protect our environment.

24.01.2022 Throwback to my kids' first protest: Strike for Climate, run by school students across the globe. I ran into my friend and hero Katie George, Candidate for Bakewell, with her kids. Our children were in awe of the beautiful, energising and youthful crowds. Our kids understand climate emergency better than most. #strike4climate

23.01.2022 With any luck, we’ll be back court-side soon, cheering on our loved ones. And staying better connected with our community. In my family that means footy, netball, basketball, scouts and cheerleading. For other Hawdon families that means soccer, tennis, cricket and more. Speaking with locals it becomes apparent just how much our sporting facilities need growth and improvement (e.g. Viewbank Tennis, Banyule City Soccer). I have identified traffic hazards, opportunities to red...uce carbon emissions (lighting, waste management) and areas to expand accessibility to players and supporters. There IS scope for improvement. Here’s a gorgeous throwback to our Little Aths days with Rosanna LAC. VERY happy and sunny memories

23.01.2022 Yes, it's PARIS! Passionate residents are contacting me asking for community gardens and orchards, just like this. I am SUPER excited to be hearing from the community on these terms. There are so many open spaces, on Council land, in Hawdon where we can plant hardy:... Table grapes Lemons and oranges Olives, nuts Loquats, mulberries Silverbeet, potatoes, herbs.. Let’s eat local and seasonal produce that brings us pride, and cuts emissions associated with food production, storage and transport. Food security is a term you are going to hear increasingly, it simply means having "reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food". 21.01.2022 Accessibility and Inclusion I’ve been approached by local disability advocates on how I will work towards increased accessibility and inclusion for all Banyule residents. Here’s my response: As a carer for a child with a chronic illness, I understand the lonely and long days, and barriers to a normal life. As a social worker, I have supported people who experience mental illness, mobility issues, autism, acquired brain injury, developmental delay, hearing and vision impai...rment; and sometimes a combination of these things. Part of my practice theory is to look at well-being through a lens of community participation: capacity to work/volunteer/study, hobbies and social opportunities. As a community, we need to step away from the idea that if we provide wheelchair access and smooth footpaths then we are done - but accessibility and inclusion are broader than this. A cornerstone of my social work practice is assessment via a socio-economic lens. I proudly add the access and inclusion lens for each decision made as your Councillor. As your Councillor, I will listen, consult and ask: Did we get this right? Can everyone use this? Will everyone take part equally in this community? Vote [1] Emily Bieber #vote1thebiebs

19.01.2022 One of my heroes of this year is my next door neighbour Helen, who brought her elderly mother home in the midst of the aged care COVID crisis. Bringing her mother home has required around the clock care and devotion from the family. During the first three weeks, Helen, and her husband and two gorgeous teenagers, set about caring for their loved one without financial assistance and nursing support. Through Helen’s persistence and advocacy, she was able to get support and equi...pment in the home. Two months later, it's still not clear when our nursing homes will be ready to safely reopen. Thank you Helen and family, for the admirable gift you have given to your mother.

19.01.2022 "Emily is a person of enormous compassion and empathy. As a Councillor, I know she'll listen and engage strongly with the residents of Hawdon and work hard on their behalf at Banyule Council." David Gentle, President, Banyule Climate Action Now.

15.01.2022 No policy discussion, but a VERY important announcement: I got 105 points for one word in Scrabble this evening. And zero guilt about winning against an eight year old.

15.01.2022 Someone asked me yesterday What is good development? Let’s look at this striking example of development from our neighbours just over the creek in Darebinas they face increasing urban density, green spaces are rapidly lost. This style of development is not unfamiliar to local residents here in Banyule. The transformation in this picture resembles desperately needed housing stock which uses land efficiently, BUT it also puts our existing tree canopy at risk. Instead, let’s... have development that: Works with existing and significant vegetation Favours homes free from gas appliances Adds eaves, verandahs and other forms of shade Reduces reflective heat with permeable driveways/paths Demand for building space in Banyule is set to increase, let’s keep what we love (natural beauty) and make sure that everyone is safely and affordably housed. 14.01.2022 SORRY - A BIG shout out to all the Hawdon residents of Macleod! There’s only a few of you but you are just as important as the rest of Hawdon Ward. I hope you can still vote [1] the Biebs. I’ve been busy thinking about all the other issues in the Ward. Hit me up with your ideas and concerns for your area. You especially need to be on my radar as we head into the NE Link build, right in your backyards.... I will proudly represent all corners of the Ward - that’s right, even the dancing coffee cup, one of Hawdon’s premier attractions.

14.01.2022 BINS! Dog poo and dog poo bins are a hotter topic of conversation for a council campaigner than I would like to admit. As a dog owner and Stage 4 walking enthusiast, it quickly becomes apparent that we DO need more bins for doggie DOOS. If we don’t pick it up, it ends up in our waterways. And on our shoes. It’s truly gross. I can honestly say, I have heard you Hawdon. I will be working hard as your Councillor to fight for many things that matter in our community: habitat los...s, construction disruption, job loss, isolation, traffic issues and getting more BINS! You can read more here about the impacts of dog poo in our waterways: https://www.epa.vic.gov.au//pick-up-your-doggie-doo-or-you Pic: Tina, the couch ballerina.

12.01.2022 PSA Year 10 kids. This particular vaccine is VERY close to my heart.

12.01.2022 This is Mariella, she's a Hawdon resident. I'd like you to meet her. She is being directly impacted by the NE Link early works: noise, lack of sleep, dust and disruption to her community. Many of her neighbours have moved or been forced to relocate. Soon, Mariella will lose access to her driveway. Daily trips to give care and support to her frail elderly mother will be difficult. Courier deliveries and her weekly shopping trip will be an uphill battle. Mariella fears that ma...ny Banyule residents don't realise how massively disruptive and destructive the proposed NEL reference design is going to be. Do you know how YOU will be impacted? As your Councillor, I will advocate to NELA and the State Government for your rights to peace, quiet and safety. And that our endangered species are protected from decimation. Please report complaints on any early works to 1800 105 105. NELA needs to be held accountable and to high standards. The loss of the parkland for the Borlase Reserve community is heartbreaking...and perplexing in that the final design is still not set in stone. 07.01.2022 Governments aren't above destroying the habitat of unique Australian animals. Just ask the koalas of NSW. Vote [1] for a Councillor who will fight to protect all the residents of Banyule, even those with a bill and venomous spur.

07.01.2022 I've brought three gorgeous humans into this world and now I must protect them from the scariest change that we have faced as a species. We are running out of time to fight heat waves, emissions, drought and bushfires. I have had enough of waiting for others to respond to climate emergency and I am stepping up to make the changes that we need. Vote [1] Emily Bieber when your ballot arrives on October 6th.... 06.01.2022 Handy info for first time postal voters. Remember: no sausage sizzle this year!

05.01.2022 Vote [1] for honesty.

04.01.2022 Electricity is Banyule's biggest source of carbon emissions. Let’s quit coal and establish our love affair with solar State Vic solar rebates are still available now, and if elected I will fight for an affordable solar program comparable to Darebin’s glorious Solar Saver program. Let’s get Banyule OFF COAL NOW!... Vote [1] Emily Bieber when your ballot arrives next week. See more

04.01.2022 Vote [1] Em Bieber for honesty, and low tech videos.

(Here’s a three minute video for those of you that forgot to do the reading! https://www.youtube.com/watch)... Vote [1] Emily Bieber: for compassionate leadership, knowledge and experience.

02.01.2022 I love how at the end of every season my girls and I fall into the trap of taking a photo AFTER a big game.... I’ve been playing netball on and off since grade five.... And playing as a mum has been one of my prouder moments. I’m really looking forward to getting back on the court for myself, but also looking forward to seeing my kids get back to their local footy, netball, cubs, basketball and cheer, with their friends and gorgeous community volunteers that make it all happe...n. #vote[1]thebiebs I know firsthand the value of community sport and decent infrastructure to make it happen!
