24.01.2022 North has officially handed over Stages 2-5 of the Belmont Hospital Theatre Redevelopment Project to Public Works Advisory and Hunter New England Local Health D...istrict. Designed by EJE Architecture, the project not only included a new 2-storey extension to an existing building containing an operating theatre, anesthetic bay, and clinical sterile facility, but also involved alterations and additions to current spaces such as reception, nurse stations, patient rooms, pre- and post-operative beds and waiting areas, staff room, and administration areas. 19.01.2022 Meet the team! Associate Michael Craig has been camped at EJE for 25 years! Michael has worked on a variety of projects including multi residential, aged care, defence, retail, childcare and sporting facilites in Newcastle, Sydney, the Central Coast and Northern NSW. Currently, Michael is working on multiple defence projects for Williamtown RAAF and Singleton Army bases, the 'Chapter' boutique apartment development in the Newcastle CBD, plus local shopping centre upgra...des, among other things! Previous projects of note include Go Kindy childcare centre, No. 2 Sportsground, City Extra Apartments AND the Scenic Tours office in Newcastle, which won the 2017 AIA Newcastle Architecture Award for Commercial Architecture! Apart from his year round, 5:30am swim at Merewether Ocean Baths , Michael has been developing his sketching and watercolour skills over the past 6 years, some of which you would have seen on our page before. The Maitland Road position with close proximity to shopping, services and public transport makes it an ideal location for its affordable housing use. 11.01.2022 This adaptive reuse of the former Civic Station building forms a part of the HCCDC Museum Place area connecting Hunter Street and Wheeler Place to the harbour foreshore. The heavy rail line was closed in 2014, and the Civic station at that time became redundant. The decision to retain the building and the landscape interpretation of the former heavy rail line informs a European heritage interpretation of the area and gives meaning to it. 06.01.2022 Constructed over 5 levels, the building contains commercial tenancies on the ground floor, and 36 apartments on the levels above, many of which overlook the large landscaped podium courtyard which is provided for the residents. The apartments will be made available for local families and frontline essential workers. The project has been developed by Centuria Capital Group, engineered by Northrop engineering, with MARS Building completing the construction, and will be operated by Compass Housing. 04.01.2022 Go Kindy Childcare Centre by EJE Architecture is a Category Winner in this year's Design Awards program. The new Go Kindy Child Care Centre is located in the d...eveloping Newcastle West Commercial Precinct, and extends over 3 individual levels. By carving out a central, double height courtyard within the building, EJE Architecture were able to provide adequate play area for all children, allowing light to penetrate well into each room. All playrooms feature their own distinctive colour scheme which is carried through into the flooring, joinery, pin-boards, room graphics and the suspended acoustic circular ceiling panels. These colour themes assist the children in recognising their room, and acts as a fun way-finding technique. 03.01.2022 EJE Architecture was engaged by the City of Newcastle to design the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) that occupies the former Civic Station building. Although the station building did not necessarily break new ground architecturally at the time of its construction (1937), it is considered worthy of retention as it is a good example of inter-war generic domestic architecture in a railway setting. 01.01.2022 Today was a very special day.... We officially broke ground on the next exciting chapter of our Family Retreat. In the coming months you will see an administrat...ion building taking shape. This is something we have been planning & working towards for over five years & will allow us to better support the many families with a sick child who come & stay with us to recharge, relax & reconnect. Families will have better access to staff & volunteers should they require anything during their stay & will have an even more enhanced experience that is unique to our families. We will now be able to store everything onsite that we need to keep the Family Retreat in the highest of standard for our families. Our Volunteers will have a purpose built space to help us support our wonderful families. We have even planned for well into the future & should we see the number of families increase to a higher number than bookings we have available, we can even turn it into a fifth cabin for families to use! We have received incredible support from many organisations which include donated & discounted services, materials & time. We are so grateful to EJE Architecture, Northrop Consulting Egineers, MidCoast Council, Lidbury Summers & Whiteman & Gather & Place for helping us plan, prepare & begin this project. Our friends at Noble Realty & JR Richards & Sons have very generously provided our office space for the past five years at no charge, playing a major part in us getting to this point & have our heartfelt gratitude. The incredibly efficient & professional team at Savcorp builders are bringing all the plans to life & we look forward to working together with them over the coming months. We are very excited for the next 6 months as we see our dream become a reality & feel so thankful we have so many amazing supporters helping us get to all of our end goal - a place to better support & care for hundreds of families with a sick child enjoy special time together as a family.
