22.01.2022 *EKM Physio Update* Ive been extremely quiet on here lately as Ive been very busy keeping a small human alive! Mitch and I welcomed our little girl Zadie Isla into our lives in February. Ive been on a break from work, however as of 12th June I will be taking bookings for physio appointments in my home in North Lakes. I will initially be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. MRT With Purpose is also offering personal training or small group sessions from ou...r house in North Lakes. If you live in the North Lakes area or surrounding suburbs, please keep me in mind.

20.01.2022 Can you believe it’s nearly the end of the year already? I know that I’ve disappeared off the radar a bit this year, however a lot has been happening my way! We have built and moved into our new home, we got a new puppy, and our first baby is due in 8 weeks As far as ‘EKM Physio’ goes, I am now working from home in North Lakes. I can still take appointments for the next month or so, then I’ll be taking a bit of time off to settle in our new addition I hope you have all had a fantastic year, and I look forward to seeing plenty of old faces in 2019 (along with lots of new ones in North Lakes). Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family xx

18.01.2022 As the end of the year is fast approaching, I wanted to post my thoughts on how to stay focused with your health and fitness goals. This year I have been really involved with F45 Training Upper Mt Gravatt which has been a lot of fun. F45 is well known for its successful 8 week challenges, however it is no secret that many people completely fall off the wagon after completing an 8-week challenge. It is an awesome effort to follow a strict meal plan and train your butt off for... 8 weeks, but the real MVP is the person who can slowly transform their lifestyle into one that is well balanced and realistic. . . . This is just my personal opinion, but I think the key to finding a healthy balance and lasting results is learning to eat and train for performance. We need to consider our food as a fuel source. This fuel is what gives us energy to train, the ability to focus, and it improves our mood. It is okay to enjoy the occasional meal or beverage that does not provide any nutritional value (insert Christmas treats here), but as a whole we must eat to fuel. No more dieting, but more fueling. . . . We should train for performance. Instead of training to lose weight, you could train to get strong. Or train to get mobile. Or train to improve the way your heart pumps oxygen around your body. Train so that you dont get puffed walking up the hill. Or so you can play gladiator with the kids on your shoulders in the pool. Train so you can get down on the ground and crawl under an obstacle in a mud run. Or train so you can move your furniture around the house without hurting your back. Everyone needs a reason to train but losing weight shouldnt be your focus. Losing weight is a byproduct of training for performance. You cant help but to change your body shape if you have your eyes set on some functional goals. . . . Do not punish yourself for having a bad meal by making it a week-long binge on sugar. Instead, treat yourself to a long walk to sweat it out. Nurture yourself by going for a massage. Reward yourself with a fun day out at the beach. Run in the sand, play in the water, and soak in some vitamin D. Crank up your favourite music (Country music, of course..), de-clutter your house, tick your jobs off the to-do list and then make time for the people that you love. There are so many ways you can treat yourself, it doesnt always need to be a cheat meal. . . . The festive season is a great chance to give your mind and body a well deserved rest, but try and keep it an active one. Enjoy yourself, but dont punish your body. Enjoy the delicious fruits of summer, and when the sun is shining - enjoy the outside! I wish you all a safe and enjoyable Christmas, and please get in touch if you want to arrange an appointment to sort out any niggles before the end of the year. See more

12.01.2022 A friend of mine asked me for some abdominal strengthening exercises she can do. Her baby is now 6 months old and she would like some ab exercises that are suitable for her as she has a small abdominal separation. I thought I would share the video, but please keep in mind that it is important you do exercises that are appropriate for your level of strength. If you have any underlying conditions (or an abdominal separation), it is best that you get assessed by a Physio to get a program suitable for you.

04.01.2022 I bought a few little things on the weekend to start my collection to donate to the Bravery Box - an initiative started by friends of mine who are experiencing the difficulty of childhood cancer first hand. I know you will all be getting started on some Christmas shopping, and I understand it can be an expensive time of year. If you get a chance to just grab one little gift to put in the Bravery Box - I know there are a lot of kids (and parents) that will be very grateful! You dont need to spend much money, but it is important that the gift is new and unused. I will collect gifts from now until 10th December - then I will deliver them to the collection point at Arana Hills Physiotherapy. Feel free to bring them to any of our fitness classes (Pilates or group fitness with MRT Group Fitness), or to your physiotherapy appointment.
