24.01.2022 Yesterday was a whole new experience for us. We went to go down to the shed and realised Molly was in labour. We seen a set of hooves but she retracted them and went out in the paddock. After some deliberation we made the decision to call the vet and get their advice. We could only assume the length of time she was in labour and confirmed that we needed to get her back in the yards. We got her back in easily and then gave her another half an hour before calling the vet a...gain, asking for him to come out immediatley. We sat with her while we waited for the vet and as the hour passed Molly was up then down and continued to have contractions but every time she pushed only the hooves and the front part of the calfs legs were exposed. She was getting tired and we were feeling more and more that we had made the right choice to call the vet out. When Tom and Ashleigh arrived they did not muck around. We put Molly straight into the crush and Tom did a quick check, the baby was in the right position but it was a big calf. They attached chains to the calfs legs and tried to pull it out with no success. Then they attached a pulley and within no time our new calf was on the ground. Justin turned to me and said he didnt make it :( It had been such an emotional day I could not hold back the tears :( Ashleigh went straight to work and began rubbing our calf, and just as sudden as he had arrived our new little bull calf showed us he was a fighter and opened his eyes. Our cows normally give birth out in the paddock and we do not usually see their babies until they are a couple of days old so to go through all of this was something we will never forget. See more

10.01.2022 Today I made it to 84 in reasonable health and could not have asked for a better setting amongst the people and wildlife I love. Enjoyed a lovely evening after ...dinner last night watching many elephants coming to water in the bright moonlight. And began today by the campfire at dawn meditating over a long life of struggle for high ideals along with many mentors and friends long since gone. As Rhodes said on his deathbed So much to do, so little done! Now in the departure lounge and handing over to others younger and more capable I need to plan my remaining time more carefully and intend to do so. See more
