25.01.2022 CoMHWA asks Four Corners for an apology.. This in from CoMHWA, Consumers of Mental Health WA calls for an apology from Four Corners CoMHWA wishes to acknowledge the grief and distress of the individuals and families who appear in this program and we pay our respects and recognise their courage in sharing their stories. ... Please be aware that this episode of Four Corners contains distressing content. If you choose to watch this program and need to talk to someone afterwards, please call the CoMHWA office on 9258 8911 or Lifeline on 13 11 14. Australias peak mental health consumer bodies have called for an apology from the producers of ABCs Four Corners episode Dont Judge Us. The episode has not only demoralised mental health consumers but has demonised and discriminated against people with a lived experience of mental health distress - something the consumer movement has fought for decades to abolish. Consumers are distressed and dismayed at the portrayal of people with mental health issues in the report. The failure of the ABC to interview any consumers, consumer advocates or consumer peak bodies has reinforced the stigma and marginalisation of people living with mental health challenges. CoMHWA has written to the Chairperson of the ABC Board and the Executive Producer of Four Corners calling for a public apology and for the ABC to work collaboratively with consumers to develop an episode that tells the truth about people living with mental and emotional distress. Consumer allies across Australia have come together to sign an open letter to the ABC for individuals to show their support on this violation of our human rights. CoMHWA encourages individuals and groups to rally behind this open letter or send their own thoughts to the ABC via their website or social media platforms. Please click here to read: CoMHWAs media release CoMHWAs letter to Ita Buttrose, ABC Chairperson calling for an apology CoMHWAs letter to Sally Neighbour, ABC Executive Producer calling for an apology If you or anyone you know has been distressed by this report from ABC Four Corners, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Covid19 has been a public health crisis unlike anything we have seen before. How do we ensure our social and economic responses to this crisis enable us to create healthier communities and a resilient economy and not the next public health crisis? 21.01.2022 Meeting with a politician sounds very exciting but there are a few vital tips we need to make our meetings with Members of Parliament a success. From being succ...inct, not asking too much, dont take too much time and providing solutions are all key elements to a successful meeting with an MP. Most importantly, we need to get our message across so the voices of our mental health community are heard. We are honoured to host former Greens Senator Scott Ludlam for a one hour online session on the best tips to make our campaign stand out when talking to an MP. Scott was a Senator in the Australian Parliament for ten years and raised the voices of many on issues including housing and homelessness, digital rights, clean energy and defense. He met with hundreds of community groups and peak bodies at both Parliament House and at his office in Fremantle. Join us on May 27 at 4pm by registering as places are limited. This session is open to everyone, particularly people with lived experience who are interested in telling Members of Parliament their story of recovery through a community mental health service. 19.01.2022 It is getting more expensive to admit someone to a hospital bed in WA for their mental health care at $1595 a day according to this year's State Budget. Western... Australia also has the highest rate of readmission rates at 16.5% of people returning to hospital within 28 days. We need better community support for these people. The Government is still only spending 5% of the mental health budget on community support. It should be 22%. Tell your local member of Parliament that this isn't good enough. 09.01.2022 Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas

09.01.2022 In recent months, in light of Victoria's outbreak and community transmission of COVID-19 in New South Wales, those States have been subject to additional condit...ions for travel to Western Australia. With the situation improving in those States, and the development of a crucial new tool to support self-quarantine in Western Australia, we are now able to adjust those conditions, based on health advice. - NEW APP TO SUPPORT SELF-QUARANTINE - Today we are formally launching the new G2G Now App - an important new tool to ensure people in 14 days self-quarantine follow the rules and keep our community safe. WA Police have been doing an exceptional job in monitoring those people self-quarantining, including physical checks. But our WA Police cannot be there 24/7. This new app will complement the work of WA Police, to allow them to check-in on people remotely, while in self-quarantine. It is an Australian-first, making a smart use of technology and developed by a local company here in WA. We encourage everyone who has an exemption to come into WA, to download the app and use it. It will make life easier for yourself and for WA Police, but most importantly it keeps you safe and the rest of our community safe. As a result of this technology, we have confidence in taking the next steps to ease some of our border restrictions. - ARRIVALS FROM VICTORIA - Effective next Monday, 5 October, arrivals to Western Australia who have been in Victoria in the previous two weeks will be allowed to complete self-quarantine, instead of in a hotel, where that is possible. The limited exemption categories for Victorian arrivals will continue to apply and they will continue to be subject to mandatory COVID-19 tests on arrival and on day 11 of their quarantine. Please note that any exempt traveller from Victoria who arrives before next Monday will still need to serve their full 14 days of quarantine in a hotel. - ARRIVALS FROM NEW SOUTH WALES - Also from Monday, 5 October, the additional restrictions which had applied to New South Wales will be lifted. That will mean that the current conditions that apply to other States and Territories, except Victoria, will now apply to NSW as well. This change will allow for more exempt travel to occur from New South Wales. These changes are based on our latest health advice. -- This is a positive step forward for our nation. We can make these adjustments because of the positive results we have seen recently over east. We have a responsibility to ensure our border controls are appropriate and reasonable, as we continue to do what is in our State’s best interest to protect Western Australians from the worst of this deadly virus. We are witnessing the damage COVID-19 is having around the world, too many people have lost their lives. Right now, Europe is experiencing a second wave, worse than the first. Western Australia is the envy of the world. Our health and our economy is in the best possible position, considering what is happening around us. That is why a cautious approach is necessary. As always, like everything, we will continue to monitor the situation over east, but until we have confidence that community spread is under control, the border will remain in place. I have been clear and consistent about this. We look to our friends in Victoria, and we hope that as they come out of lockdown, we continue to see community spread get under control. So then, as a nation, we can continue on the same positive path out of COVID-19.
