25.01.2022 Looking forward to a visit from Karen and some of the residents of Pinaroo on the 21st February. Hopefully the weather will be kinder.

25.01.2022 Football trials in Brisbane until Sunday. Looking forward to getting back to normal which includes our Farm Visits.

23.01.2022 School holidays are here and weaning is happening. We welcomed a group of students from the TAFE this week to help muster and wean. It is great to give these young guys experience that may help find them employment. Geordie has been working with the young weaners, running them through the race and putting them on hay. Next week we welcome a group from QUT who are coming to have a visit and give a hand with tidying the old sheep yards. Something that we have been "going t...o do" for a long time. It will be great to build up some understanding and maybe narrow that city?country divide in some way. I will not be here as I am off to the warmer climate in Ingham and Atherton to judge horse events at their annual shows. Unfortunately due to a number of reasons we are unable to run our weekly visits this year, however I am happy to look after larger groups who pre-book. We are looking forward to a coach at the end of the month. We have just received 7 mm of rain overnight and I am sure that our oats will welcome the boost. See more

22.01.2022 Thanks to Farmer Phil for the loan of his tractor while we wean. I may not get a job as a forklift driver but it makes things easier.

21.01.2022 We have not melted away but the heat has affected me somewhat. We have been a lot luckier than some and have caught some rain, but it is very patchy. Bennett and i hope to bring in cattle today. We will be selling off older cows and calves to make way for younger heifers that we have kept. The large hole made by the disappearance of 20 cows and their offspri g and one bull will make the cut easier

20.01.2022 Our Hattie the Hen has decided that the old chair on our verandah is a great place to lay an egg. Every day without fail she leaves us a lovely brown egg.

20.01.2022 We have now put most of our larger steers on the oats. Hopefully the prices will hold until they are sold.

19.01.2022 There will be no tour next Wednesday as I mistakenly took a Wednesday teaching booking, however I am happy to do the next day, the Thursday.

17.01.2022 We dont like using chemicals but sometimes you just have to. Buffalo fly are a nasty, annoying fly that causes cattle much distress. Today the boys mustered our heifers and steers and while Bennett sorted out the steers from the heifers, Geordie sprayed. Grandma supervised. We then took of some of the better heifers for sale. We have already kept our replacement heifers and sold some of the oldest cows.

17.01.2022 Sorry to bore, but I love our garden at the moment.

16.01.2022 As summer closes, the months ahead look quite scary. The hay that we saved several springs ago is nearly gone and any grass that we had is brown and sparse. I have been sparing with feedin as there is a long haul ahead. Suprisingly the cattle dont look too bad but that is because they dont have to use energy to keep warm. At this stage we wont be attending any shows, for the first time in my life. George keeps our garden escape going, but it is being shared with more wild... and tame critters. Kookie once released made friends with locals(5 of them)and has invited them back for nibblies. Along with 2 kurrawongs and a normal magpie or two. Noticed coming back from work that there are even trees dying. Our life revolves around looking at cloud formations and weather forecasts!!! Not in this alone, at least we have cattle alive and our " grass" has not been burned bare.!! See more

15.01.2022 Still looking good, Grandma!

15.01.2022 This week we welcomed Anglicare and some of our Senior community members (and Katrina), for morning tea. It was also my mothers 88th birthday. she blew out candles and cut her birthday chocolate cake. Apart from the wind it was a lovely morning.

14.01.2022 Storm and Huffy cooling down.

14.01.2022 Noticed a brown ibis trying to get into our garden this morning. I suggested that he really should have flown to warmer climates but then noticed that his wing was hanging by about a centimetre of flesh. He was quite happy to be picked up and taken upstairs. I have snipped off the wing and dressed the wound. No doubt "Ivan" will live in our garden if he survives. Geordie took the video and acted as vet nurse.

12.01.2022 Just said goodbye to one of our weanlings. Titch is off to visit the vet first then some loving before being turned out to grow.

12.01.2022 What a busy day yesterday. 39 passengers plus Tim the driver and Joanne the hostess. I hope that they all enjoyed lunch and the bush surroundings. Many thanks to Jenny, Catherine and Alecia who pitchedin to help prepare food , serve and clean up. Today will be spent spraying for the buffalo fly that is annoying everything.

12.01.2022 We train them young out here. Niece Dianna, was a great help today as we weighed and tagged cattle to be sent to a feedlot. Seventy head of ours and Grandmas leave on Tuesday morning. Dianna was the keeper of the "Magic Wand" gently persuading some to walk through the cattle crush. George had just arrived home from work to inspect the troops!!

11.01.2022 Rather pleased with this years replacement heifers.

10.01.2022 ATTENTION to those opportunist cattle breeders who have been making use of our cattle on our forestry block along the Grafton Terrace Road. We are about to put... some more of our cows back. You might like to add them to the 10 cows and calves you have "borrowed" since October and to the 30 cows and calves and bull you "borrowed" in the 2 years previously!! However please smile nicely as we will also be adding cameras in various spots In the paddock. The Stock Squad will also be interested. As we share running our cattle with my mother you actually have "borrowed" nearly half our income for the next five or six years at least. We have good neighbours and have never had an issue with them. Someone knows something and that is why we are offering $2000.00 for information leading to the return of the cattle or the conviction of the lowlife who has been borrowing our livliehood!!! We are looking for Murray Greys (some brahman cross). They are branded and ear marked and tagged. PIC # QJBI0083 See more

10.01.2022 Three weanlings enjoying the colour change.

07.01.2022 El Dorado Farm Visits will be up and going in June. We have had a number of things going on and now our show circuit starts and i do hope to be able to show at least 2 of our horses. The last week of May will be taken up in Wynnum Manly as both twins play their last game for the South West at the State Open Rugby League trials. After that i can devote my time to welcoming visitors and making pumpkin soup to keep them warm! Winter arrived this morning as I fed the horses at 4.30am prior to driving to Chinchilla for Touch Football trials. Not sure if there was a frost but it was bl......close to it!

07.01.2022 George has been busy recently adding sandstone paths in areas of heavy use.

05.01.2022 Well the unthinkable is about to happen. It looks like there will be more bales of oaten hay than we imagined. We will have excess small bales and will be abl...e to make 3 round bales for sale. Seems the going rate is around $10 GST inclusive and round bales $55 GST inc. Can deliver to local area for that. Large orders negotiable. Please let me know if you are after hay 46233335. It is beautifully clean hay. See more

03.01.2022 After 9mm yesterday afternoon, this morning was clean up time. Unfortunately two shady trees went down around the cattle yards.

03.01.2022 Just when you think that youll get a break a storm comes along. Lots of trees down, one over the TAFE tractor. The old hut still stands. I rescued a baby kookaburra this morning and twins and my neice are busy catching insects. He would have been blown out of its nest. Actually now think its a baby kingfisher.

03.01.2022 Yesterday we hosted 17 residents of Pinaroo and 5 helpers/staff. What a lovely morning. The weather had changed and was totally enjoyable. I forgot to get photos but everyone had an enjoyable time. The horses visited and were delighted to be fed carrots. Honey and "The Gerbil" had actually gone through the chook yard fence to the garden and got up close and personal. It was lovely to give back to these older people and brighten up their day.

03.01.2022 Sale heifers. Not sure whether to sell privately or through Roma Saleyards.

01.01.2022 2 new boys from Ondiong Murray Greys about to go out in the paddock with cows and calves. Luckily we have acclimatised with good rainfall recently. Once the heifers have calved out some will be joining them.

01.01.2022 Weaning at El Dorado

01.01.2022 Lovely to see the folk from Blue Care out for morning tea and a sausage sizzle.....Ladbrooks of course!!
