25.01.2022 First up in #VirtualCAL is Miyu Kurihara. We asked her to tell us about the work she would have brought to Ceramic Art London2020. Alongside my usual "blue an...d white" porcelain work, I've been working on the new collection of hand built pottery. This collection is inspired by Chinese "Cizhou ware", and I researched several glazes and slips for stoneware pottery and cut designs into the slip. Visit https://buff.ly/2zE1mts and search for Miyu in our exhibitors page, you can contact her directly for purchase enquiries! While unfortunately Ceramic Art London couldnt take place this year, were bringing the work you would have seen straight to you with #VirtualCAL. Visit https://buff.ly/2zE1mts and browse our exhibitor page to find their pieces and contact them directly.

24.01.2022 What a wall! Im not getting studio time right now but Im enjoying other peoples clay pages. I hope to get my studio into shape in the next few months when the energy is there.

24.01.2022 Work in progress...Over the past two month I have been handbuilding a wall mounted porcelain installation in response to ‘Natural Fragmentation’ and the dimini...shing natural habitats in our cities. My backyard garden is a busy highway for many native animals as they move between urban habitats. Dropping in for water, food and a safe place to rest. This installation and others are works in progress that you can see being constructed during open studio weekend next weekend 21-22 Nov 10am - 4pm See more

23.01.2022 Guided Glazing Tutorial is now online!!! We have done it! We have recorded and published our first video tutorial. This tutorial is aimed at beginners at ClayMa...ke Studio; as our casual classes were abruptly paused, some of our students were left in limbo unable to glaze and finish their work. We have recorded the Guided Glazing Tutorial so you can get the instruction on the website, and then come to the studio and glaze your work. As always, Emma or Andrea will be there to help, but we hope that our Online Guided Glazing Tutorial will explain the process and give you enough information and confidence to come and glaze your work. Looking forward to seeing you soon at ClayMake! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huT26C-Dj7M&t=37s See more

22.01.2022 With my co-curator Janet Abrams, I am happy to announce the launch of Quartz Inversion http://www.quartzinversion.com a made-for-the-web zibit of Pandemic... Ceramics, featuring 34 ceramic artists from 16 countries. Quartz Inversion documents how these artists experienced the Spring 2020 global Coronavirus lockdown from different places around the world. In their own words, images and videos, the invited participants share what they've been reflecting on during the Great Pause; how they've adapted to suddenly-shifted conditions (such as teaching ceramics online, home-schooling their children, and working away from their normal studios and equipment); and what theyve been making, as they somehow managed to continue their studio practices, in whatever places and with whatever materials were ready-to-hand. QI presents examples of the work each artist is best known for, plus several brand new Lockdown works many of them made in clay, but also in other media including fiber, rubber, paint, recycled cardboard, polymer clay, ink and watercolor drawing, and bamboo coated in cow dung. Following an epidemiological model of transmission, the Quartz Inversion community will continue to expand according to a Rate of Affection where Ra= 1. Each QI Round One invited artist has nominated another ceramic artist to participate in QI Round Two, which will be published on the site in August 2020. The Quartz Inversion project will include a Benefit Auction of works by participating artists, and several Zoom dialogues with QI artists conducted across multiple time zones. Details of these events will be announced on the website shortly. https://www.quartzinversion.com Designed and built in Squarespace, and edited by Janet Abrams QI Round One invited artists: Adil Writer, India Alexander M. 15.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS Tjunkaya Tapaya OAM | #repost @ernabella_arts_pukatjapottery We are so proud of senior Pitjantjatjara leader and artist Tjunkaya Tapaya O...AM receiving an Order of Australia in the General Division in the Queens Birthday Honours. Tjunkaya grew up at the Ernabella Mission. In mission days, the building, which is now the art centre was originally used as a food hall by the missionaries. In 1948 it became the Craft Room. Tjunkaya began work in the Craft Room making weavings, later excelling in the medium of batik, and became one of the outstanding artists with work in several public collections. Tjunkaya also works in ceramics, tjanpi, punu, print making, spinning and mukata making and her work in these mediums has been seen in numerous exhibitions in Australia and internationally since 1971, in public and private galleries. Her works are held in many national and international collections, including the National Museum of Scotland, National Museum of Australia, National Gallery of Australia and the Museum of Ethnology, Osaka. Tjunkaya is also a prolific writer in Pitjantjatjara. She is currently developing a bi-lingual children's book. She also has essays published in a number of exhibition catalogues. Tjunkaya is a key leader for Pitjantjatjara culture and a much beloved person, artist, writer, leader and teacher. Congratulations Tjunkaya!
