24.01.2022 Thanks to 7X and Leo members! Last week Mr Parry’s 7X Science class had the pleasure of putting together ‘Solar Buddy’ lights. This is a project the Leo club runs each year and fundraises to purchase the lights to send overseas to help others. These lights provide people who live without safe and reliable lighting a safer option. Inventor Simon Doble designed a renewable energy-powered light that has become a solution in refugee camps across the world. He found throug...h finding one solution, he realised the enormity of energy poverty. This is something our school community has recognised and supported for the last few years. Once the students put the lights together, they had the opportunity to write a letter or draw a picture for someone else in need. A truly worthwhile project, making impact. Thanks Year 7 Leo members, 7X and Mr Parry. Find more information about this great project here: https://solarbuddy.org/ #theeloway #leoclub #solarbuddy

24.01.2022 Today we celebrated the achievements of ESHS students in Years 7 to 11 who were awarded either a Distinction or High Distinction. You have all faced several challenges this year, but each one of you has shown determination and resilience to achieve the results that you have been awarded today. You are someone who knows exactly what you want; someone who sets your eyes on a goal and does not lose sight of it, unless it is achieved, regardless of the obstacles/challenges you have to overcome. Congratulations!! We are all so very proud.

23.01.2022 When you become of value, you earn that sense of purpose. It gives you a direction on what else you want for your life. Aim to be the type of person who will inspire others. If you want to help yourself, then help others first! NOTHING helps yourself more than focusing on others’ needs. It’s kind of a mysterious notion, but it works!

23.01.2022 Elanora High has many inspirational teachers who run, but our Deputy Principal Simonne Clark is at the top of the list. She will be challenging her limits again to complete the Coastal High 50. A 50k trail run through the GC Hinterland. Best of luck! We’re all behind you, but we are happy not to join you on it. You are amazing.

23.01.2022 As parents, we try to instil positive character traits and healthy friendship habits with our children from a very young age. We help our toddlers learn to share, take turns, and understand the basics of empathy, but as our children get older, we have less and less control over the decisions they make in their friendships and who they choose to spend time with. While this is a normal (and healthy) part of letting our children become increasingly independent, it can be challenging when your child is spending time with someone who you feel may be a bad friend/influence. Do you think your child may be in a bad friendship? You can help your teen recognise and understand that this kind of behaviour isn’t okay.

23.01.2022 With the end of term rapidly approaching, from tomorrow the Canteen will only be opening for first break with a minimal selection of items for sale. The last day of trade will be Monday 7 December 2020.

23.01.2022 Ever thought about where and who you’d be if only you’d done something differently, gone somewhere else, chosen something or someone else? Probably yes, if you’re like most of us. But, have you ever imagined where you might go and what you might still become, with the choices and chances you yet have left? Make the time to work out what’s most important to you.

22.01.2022 Student vs Teacher Netball Every Wednesday after school in the Student Centre... looks like a lot of fun! #theeloway

22.01.2022 Take 5, get out alive. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services firefighters put out almost 2000 house fires last year. Check your smoke alarms and make a home fire escape plan with your children. Taking a few minutes to talk about home fire safety may just save their lives. https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/fireescape/index.html

22.01.2022 We are extremely delighted to introduce and welcome to our school for the remainder of 2020, Deputy Principal Kate Jorgensen. Kate is filling in while Melinda Jackson is on leave. Kate brings a wealth of knowledge with her and is a very experienced Deputy Principal. We are very excited to have her here at Elanora SHS and also excited for the remainder 2020. We would also like to say a massive thank you to Brad Roberts, the principal of Beaudesert State High School for allowing Kate to come to ESHS at such short notice. We are truly grateful for his support.

22.01.2022 Students were given the task of re-designing a given building within Elanora SHS to make it 100% energy efficient. Students utilised a number of 21st century skills to create a 3D laser cut design from blueprints which they developed and input into digital formats. Additionally they developed an advertising pamphlet and gave a presentation to support their design, justifying how their design incorporated the mathematical and scientific curriculum into their final product. Students are to be commended with their enthusiasm and dedication to creating a fantastic display which showcased their STEM skills and abilities, we are very proud of their effort. Thank you Ms Aubrey and Ms Sunderland. Thank you also to Mr Martin, Mr Goodman, Mr Wright and Ms Dunton for their assistance and giving up their time to support the project.

22.01.2022 Last weekend Elanora State High School students competed in the Paddle Queensland State School's Championships. 21.01.2022 Last week our Indigenous students had the opportunity to visit the Jellurgual Aboriginal cultural centre tour. This involved the following: * Amphitheatre presentation of traditional life pre-contact including information on Kombumerri Park Burial Ground and Jebribillum Bora Ring * Live Aboriginal dance performance * Burleigh Mountain Walk (Jellurgal Journey) including:... - Anointment Ceremony: An important ceremony that is conducted by a traditional land owner who will bless us with a safe journey. - Dreamtime story: The creation story of the formation of Burleigh Headland. Guided walk to Midden (interpretive): Shell middens tell us a lot about Aboriginal activities in the past. The types of shells in a midden can show the type of marine environment that was used, and the time of year when Aboriginal people used it. Students favourites were the live Aboriginal dance performance and the Burleigh Mountain Walk. #theeloway #deadlyelanorajarjums

16.01.2022 Think about this for a moment....If you are striving for positivity, love, forgiveness, support, determination, truthfulness, drive, success etc. then surely this is what you will attract in your inner circle? If you have "negative", "full of excuses", "angry", "blame the world" people in your life, then maybe you need to look in your own mirror and check in to see if that is what you are? Be the reflection you truly want, hope and strive for....

16.01.2022 Always Available - 24/7 For many, this time of the year can be the most stressful time of year. Financial hardship, family conflict and loneliness can lead to experiences of increased stress for people, especially those living with anxiety and depression, in the lead up to New Year celebrations. If you’re feeling alone or lonely, it’s important to reach out and talk to someone. Sometimes it’s difficult to talk about what’s going on but it could be as simple as sending a tex...t, a message on social media, inviting someone over for a cuppa or making a phone call. If you’re supporting someone who has anxiety or depression these holidays it’s important to look after yourself too. Occasions like Christmas can also bring up feelings of sadness and grief for people who have lost someone special. If you feel you can, talk about your loved one, share memories and tears. You may also like to spend some time alone so you can think about your loved one. It’s also OK to enjoy yourself, don’t feel guilty, it doesn’t mean you don’t miss them. We all have good days and bad days. Then there are those days when something isn't quite right, you've got something on your mind, or things just seem too much. Whatever it may be, sharing the load with someone else can really help. So no matter who you are, or how you're feeling, you can talk it through. For urgent assistance please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 (24 hour counselling, information and referrals) or the Beyond Blue Support Service 1300 22 4636 - 24 hours / 7 days a week See more

11.01.2022 Did you know there is an alternative to ‘traditional schooling’ for Years 11 and 12? As a parent, you obviously want to make the best choice for your child when it comes to schooling. You know your child has the knowledge and ability to get better grades, but it just isn’t happening. If traditional schooling is holding your child back, they may benefit from an appropriate change. Seeking an alternative to traditional schooling may spark higher achievement. But what types of a...lternatives should parents be checking out? Welcome to Cooee GC, an Education Queensland Senior High School campus with a pathways focus. Year 11 and 12 students complete their core subjects for their Queensland Certificate of Education and then are given the flexibility to select Certificate-based courses of their interest, to create a meaningful learning experience that is relevant to the individual. Students at Cooee GC, actively create opportunities to better themselves and their community. They become well-rounded citizens who can confidently walk out of the school gates, equipped with the necessary tools to succeed in life. Students participate in a School Based Traineeship, which is designed to provide real world, authentic learning opportunities which complements a Certificate III qualification of the student's choice. University minded students are encouraged to enrol in a Diploma of Business which not only gives students direct entry into university but also provides recognition of prior learning credits towards selected university degrees. 11.01.2022 Gut instinct, or intuition, is your immediate understanding of something; there's no need to think it over or get another opinionyou just know. Because of this, trusting your intuition is the ultimate act of trusting yourself. Listening to your intuition helps you avoid unhealthy relationships and situations.

11.01.2022 Weekly Character Strength: Forgiveness - You never hold a grudge. You believe in giving others a second chance and trying to not only make up but learn from disagreements. Be careful that 'keeping the peace' doesn't turn into people taking advantage of your generous nature. Develop your forgiveness by starting each day with a kindness meditation to build love and acceptance for yourself and others.

10.01.2022 Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?

10.01.2022 As the 2020 Year 12s receive their ATAR results this morning, and no matter what those results are, we want you all to be proud of your achievements! There is success in being the first cohort to complete ATAR - and to do that in this tumultuous year has required incredible resilience and courage. I am sure there are some very relieved students, but know that whatever emotion you are feeling, it is okay. If you are disappointed, ecstatic, frustrated, delighted, relieved, ang...ry, happy or sad, it is okay. Just don’t let your ATAR change your dreams. There are many options. Direct from school through your ATAR into your chosen course is not the only pathway. Sure it is great to strive to do your best and your ATAR can open some doors, but it is by no means the be-all-and-end-all of your future. Nor is it the end of the road to university. We know that you will all go on to do great things! See more

09.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 The Humanities Department led activities across the school to mark Remembrance Day this year. Staff completed various activities with students in the week leading up to 11th November, regarding this as an important opportunity to impart in students a better understanding of world events, to look outside their present reality and to develop a more empathic approach to life; students were positioned to consider the events in WW1 which led to the creation o...f Armistice Day from perspectives not their own. Part of their activities included making poppies and writing a Peace Pledge, the purpose being to have students consider how they can promote a more peaceful world. It was so nice to see so many students who understand the value of acceptance, kindness, equality and love in creating a better future! Miss Julianne Davies See more

08.01.2022 Weekly Character Strength: Fairness You keep things just. You have a strong sense of what you believe to be right, you care deeply about others and want to do the right thing by them. Fairness is treating people justly, not letting your personal feelings bias your decisions about others. Make sure this doesn't tip over into righteousness.... Develop it by looking for one thing you can do each day to make life a little easier for those around you. Note when you are being too hard on yourself and others and make needed adjustments.

02.01.2022 Be it professional or personal, the best way to catch a break is to work hard for your goals. Sitting around and waiting for something great to happen is a guaranteed way to make sure you never get a lucky break. Even when it comes to the lottery, you have to buy a ticket to have even the smallest chance. Don’t feel bad about daydreaming what you might spend the money on. Just make sure you follow up those dreams with dedication and hard work. The breaks and luck will follow.
