24.01.2022 The Premier of Victoria Dan Andrews has spoken of the need for people working outside of home during Stage 4 Restrictions to carry a permit if stopped. These permits can now be applied for. From 11:59pm on Wednesday 5 August, employers whose workplaces are permitted to remain open that require their staff to attend a work site must issue a worker permit to their employees this is the employer’s responsibility. Permits can be applied for here: https://www.justice.vic.gov.au/permitted-worker-scheme

12.01.2022 The Premier has announced that the Victorian stage four lockdown will NOT require residential building activity to shut down. Instead, the residential building industry will be able to continue operating with restrictions on the number of people permitted on sites, combined with having appropriate COVID safety plans in place. The changes will commence from 11:59pm on Friday 7 August. Domestic residential construction can continue to operate but it will be unlawful to have mo...re than 5 people on site at any one time. Other safety practices will also need to be followed. In addition the restrictions clearly indicate that manufacturing to support residential building can continue to operate and that hardware, building and garden supplies retailing can remain open for tradespeople only despite being contactless pickup for the general public. Based on this release there are some questions HIA will raise with Government to ensure clarity on the changes that will take effect on Friday night. This includes customer inspections, display homes and regulatory inspections. HIA has outlined to Government that the residential building industry is better placed than many other industries to adhere to these conditions and that our members are well equipped and willing to conform to all COVID safety requirements.

12.01.2022 Details regarding the application process and eligibility criteria for the HomeBuilder Grant have now been released for most states across the country. The HomeBuilder grant provides eligible owner-occupiers $25,000 towards the cost of building or buying a new home or substantially renovating an existing home. HIA has developed information for members to assist you and your clients apply for the grant. Find out what this means for your state/territory.

The Premier has announced a 5 day lockdown to commence at 11.59pm tonight until 11.59pm on Wednesday 17 February!... Unfortunately as construction work is NOT considered ‘essential’, building sites and our office must be closed for the duration of the lockdown. For our clients currently in the construction process of their new home, construction will continue on Thursday 18 February. We appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.
