16.01.2022 On Friday the 30th of Oct 2020, Elba held it's 2019-2020 AGM meeting at Manning Hall. We welcomed, Committee Members, Members, Support Workers and stakeholders. The event was attended by approximately 40 people. It was a great afternoon had by all with eating, drinking and socializing after the meeting. 15.01.2022 This delightful and charming female member has had a stroke and acquired brain injury. She uses a wheelchair and speaks with a lightwriter. Has assistance to undertake all daily tasks including eating/ Dysphagia. She requires assistance with hoisting, personal care, housework, feeding and going on social outings, the ability to apply make up will be favourably considered for this very outgoing lady. Applicants must have the following: - Willing to undertake the NDIS worker sc...reening prior to start - NDIS Worker orientation certificate - HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 Provide first aid certificate - Drivers License - Computer literate, member likes to do emailing and messenger for regular contact - Non smoker - Must be reliable and punctual - Experience is preferred Provide assistance to individuals with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities. Transporting Elba’s member to therapy, doctor appointments, shopping etc. Medication Administration Bladder & Bowel Care Hoisting or slide board to assist in transferring to and from bed to commode, wheelchair. To assist members with a range of activities including: 1. Personal hygiene (including toileting), grooming and presentation; bathing and brushing teeth 2. General household, food preparation, shopping & environmental maintenance tasks; 3. Activities of interest in the home and local community; 4. Daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning rooms and laundry 5. Activities related to the maintenance or improvement of health and well-being. 05.01.2022 Super Hero of the Month For October: Kath was nominated by her member because she undertakes each of her duties with great diligence. She goes the extra mile to make his life more comfortable such as scheduling all his appointments, keeping his fridge stocked with plenty of fresh food. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Kath.... Kath’s dedication to provide her member with top quality care gives him a positive disposition and makes Kath a true reflection of the Elba values. Kath’s positive attitude towards developing herself professionally and has successfully achieved each of required training certificates and also achieving her Cert 3 in Disability. Thank you Kath for being a part of the Elba team we are lucky to have you.

05.01.2022 'EXPERIENCE PERTH THIS WEEKEND' Just to mix it up a little for the coming weekend, I’ll start with a bit of trivia. To follow are moments/events of history that occurred 10th and 11th of April. Let’s start with events on in Perth this weekend. (This is quite ironic, knowing that one day later a former Beetle had Died exactly 8 years ago.) April 10, 1962, Former Beetle Dies of Aneurysm Stuart Sutcliffe was the bass guitarist for the Beatles before they became famous (May 1960 - August 1961), but left the band to pursue his art career. He died at the age of 21 of a cerebral hemorrhage. Although, the cause of Sutcliffe's aneurysm is unknown, it may have been the result of an earlier head injury he received in a fight after a Beatles' performance in January 1961. Fellow Beatles members John Lennon and Pete Best went to Sutcliffe's aid, fighting off his attackers. Sutcliffe sustained a fractured skull and Lennon's little finger was broken. Sutcliffe suffered blinding headaches afterwards, but refused medical attention. Sutcliffe is also partially credited with coming up with the name of the group, when he jokingly suggesting "Beatals" as a play on Buddy Holly's Crickets. Up to then they were known as "The Quarrymen", but the name was changed to "The Silver Beetles", and later "The Beatles".

04.01.2022 Please sign this petition to get the word out about the government misappropriated the funds allocated to improve long-term accommodation for quadriplegics. Lets put the pressure on the health Minster Roger Cook to withdraw his support and sending spinal cord injured people to nursing homes designed for other conditions. Elba is trying to do our part by building our own respite accommodation in Hamilton Hill where it is close to local hospitals, shops, parks and transport. O...ur proposed facility will have 3 components that include 8 individual respite self-contained rooms 2 of which are double rooms for clients to share with family as well as modified wheelchair bathrooms, bed, sitting area and kitchenette this will allow high level quadriplegics to be able to use the facilities. Four support worker self-contained rooms, one common (kitchen and lounge area). A special cinema will be designed for wheelchair users to be able to sit in a simulated seat IN their own wheelchair to be able to have the ultimate movie experience. In addition, the facility will have a hydrotherapy pool and a modified gym for wheelchair users both of which are rarely free to use in the community. Unfortunately Elba's respite accommodation will not be ready in enough time before the the Quadriplegic Centre will be destroyed, this centre is a second home and safe house that some quadriplegic rely on especially for respite when they fall short of carers or have pressure sores. Those who do manage to find work face the challenge of dispelling fears and proving that they are more than capable, and some of them are successfully breaking down stereotypes.
