Every Friday during isolation we had the pleasure of enjoying tunes picked out and played by our good friend Marc, El Chivi radio is what he called it and as he played live through twitch where we would watch him dance and he would watch us cook. 11.01.2022 With hearts full of appreciation and gratitude for our community, family of supporters and Chivito lovers across Melbourne, we will sadly be closing the doors of El Chivi on the 11th of December for its last dinner service. As we enter our fifth year, we are taking time to reassess where in the world El Chivi belongs. 2020 has been a slog and has challenged us from the very beginning...... January - it began with the bushfires, poor air quality and extreme weather conditions cancelled some of our biggest festivals and heavily impacted our summer calendar March - in one day our year was cancelled with festivals and life as we knew it put on the sideline until further notice... COVID We have been very, very fortunate thanks to the guys at Daisys Garden supplies, being able to continue trading, interact with humans and luckily haven't been totally isolated, life has functioned positively and are very blessed as we know many have been struck hard. COVID has also meant price rises on all stock and produce, unwillingly it forced us to find a new baker, closed interstate borders and reduced staffing at meatworks meant our steak price has sky rocketed and will continue to go up, gloves are in short demand and prices have tripled all while not passing on the charge to our customers and while still maintaining high quality ingredients. Each week we would hang on the edge of our seats listening eagerly to Daniel Andrews press conference updates, seeing if there were changes and every week we rejoiced when hospitality could remain open in a take away capacity. BUT every time Daniel Andrews announced support for small businesses, we never made the cut... we have not been eligible for any support from the government, small business grants, job-keeper and so, we really do appreciate the ongoing support of our community each week, you have all kept us going, we are truly grateful!!!! The year has become increasingly challenging as the months have gone by and now we believe its a good time to reassess. It's time for us to watch our children grow, as this is the only life they and we know, enjoy time with them, take a HUGE deep breath and do a bit of soul searching while we explore new career paths. We still have 4 weeks left with no restrictions or kilometer rules.. so please make the most of it, if you've been putting it off there is no time like the present because we don't know how long its going to be. Thanks again for all the support this year and over the last 5, it's not goodbye forever but for now its see you later. Gracias & much love Anna & Marty xx

08.01.2022 Flash back to building a food truck as we approach our 5th year. This time 5 years ago we had nearly finished with the build of the food van, the equipment and flooring was about to go in and we were months away from having our first baby... Many fingernails were lost on the sander making the individual roof tiles to give our food truck a look similar to the rustic houses of Colonia Uruguay.

We have grown, evolved, experienced and changed alot since the humble beginnings of building our food truck and being new to the scene. Chasing a dream of being your own boss, running a small business, doing what you love and work life balance has been crazy. What a beautiful temperature for an El Chivi lunch, we really appreciate all the kindness and support of the neighbourhoods we have visited recently and during a crazy time being able to gather neighbours with food is pretty special.
